Your execution

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 10:44 am

your pulled from your cell and are taken through corridors in a dark dank prison. you can hear coughing of the sick, moaning of the tortured, and screams of the insane. the guards leading make petty conversation. they throw open a door and your blinded by the light for a few seconds. when your vision clears you see a huge crowd of people before you and your led through them. they curse you, throw things at you, and make racial slurs.

you make it up to the gallows where the executioner is preparing another prisoner. he puts him on his knees with his head stretched across a block. he checks his axe to make sure its sharp, gets into position to the side of the prisoner looking towards you, grins wickedly at you and swings his axe. you see the head separate and role into the crowd where its graved and thrown around.

your shoved forward and are led to him. he says a few remarks before he kicks you to your knees and shoves your head to the block, the blood from the countless others before you stain it, you struggle but the guards hold you in place. in third person you see him raise his axe in first person you see his shadow doing so and rite at the apex of his lift where he would drop it a tremendous roar blasts through the crowd and fire erupts through them and you see a dragon sweep down breathing fire among them.

in the chaos you gain full control of your character and have to escape, taking armour, weapons, and supplies from fallen guards and spectators. your goal is to escape and kill the dragon when you do you absorb the soul. the law keepers pardon you of your crimes for killing the dragon and the grey beards detect your absorption of the dragon soul and begin calling you.

Wow, sounds pretty delicious.

Much better than the standard "Start out in prison" gig again. This actually adds some variety.

This would be good if it had Esbern in it since its been confirmed that he saves you. I imagined it like the beginning except for the part with the dragon. Instead mine goes like this:

As the executioner raises his axe, you hear the twang of an arrow and a sharp grunt. You can see the shadow of the executioner reach around and grab an arrow thats sticking out of your back and fall to the ground with a great thud. Chaos ensues as the crowds just witnessed a murder and you're afraid that you might be next. But then you see somebody coolly walking towards you among the chaos. The strange man kneels down and unhooks you and says, "come with me." Then you go through a sort of tutorial type thing as you have to escape aided by Esbern until you're free. And then you go on your merry way doing whatever it is you want.

I was actually envisioning something like that as well. I remember that Todd said in an interview that they were going to introduce dragons "pretty early on," and that triggered this line of thinking in my mind. I think at this point I will be disappointed if the execution is not interrupted by a dragon attack. I want the opening to be an adrenaline rush, something like (and I may get some flack for saying this) how Bond films start.

Sounds good, but what if you break free from the guards holding you down in the last second and do some Assassins Creed-style counter attack on the executioner (which is possible as their is finisher moves now) Then you have to fight through the guards and escape.

Then again, I suppose you could have a number of different escape options for whatever character your trying to build, such as a thief could unlock his shackles and then on the way to the executioner just run, or a mage could use a unlock spell on his shackles. Whichever escape option you choose it could be a really good way to choose your class (even though they have been removed)

EDIT.

Or a Mirrors Edge-style disarm and counter kill

I think you are close to the truth. I would be surprised if the execution is not interrupted by a dragon attack.

Good job.

he could have been tracking the dragon that attacks and you team up with him to try and kill it. when you kill it instead of him he witnesses the soul absorption and know what you are.

Except that story throws the main quest at your face in a horrible way. I'd rather have something more mysterious where you have some time to ask yourself a few questions.

I like this idea, but if we're going to fight a dragon right of the bat as a tutorial and for the 1st dragon shout then it would have to be an easy one, not the main villain.

lol if i could i would... i do a lot of thinking and writing and am currently working on my own book but it is still "alpha" .

and it has been stated in several interviews that you will start off at your execution.... unfortunately i dont have any links to them atm.

what would you ask your self?

besides you start off in prison and a dragon is introdused very early.... this is just what i figure would happen... you can still go about and do what you want afterwards plus being plunged into combat like that will give you a chance to see what kinda fighter you are.

Not really. It'd be like after that the fight and the absorption you don't know what happened but Esbern does and goes through a series of small quests to establish if you're a dragon born and to prepare you to fight dragons alone without telling you your fate until a good amount of quests in with him

I like the idea of the dragon's shadow passing over the platform as it flies by. That would be wicked intense, in my opinion.

So instead of asking and thinking for myself, I do these quests for Esbern, hoping he'll tell me? That is throwing the campaign in my face. No, I'd like a chance to tell him to [censored] off, or at least ask what's going on, before signing my life to him.

Add in a naked Dagoth Ur running around yelling "How am I still alive?!" and you have yourself a winner.

I wonder how this will play out in the game. It sounds quite accurate except for the part about going off to kill the dragon. Maybe the dragon flies over the town or city you are in to cause just enough distraction for you or Esbern to spring into action in escaping. But I doubt you will have to fight a dragon until at least after the 30 minute mark of the game. But up till the end you got a pretty realistic depiction of what it could look like. Good job
