Your experience with Companion's Insight

Post » Mon Feb 04, 2013 10:03 pm

I have been trying to figure out if the Companion's Insight power really works. Here are some of my few observations.

On one occasion I let loose with an arrow just as a companion jumped in between me and the target. It was as if the arrow just disappeared. So, in that case, it seemed that the power worked.

But just now while battling a bandit chief I purposefully whacked my companion with my sword to see what would happen. She cried out as though she were hit and she caught on fire (the sword has a fire enchantment). I didn't see anything happen with her health meter though. So I can't tell if I did or did not damage her.

What have you seen? Does it really work as advertised?

I wish it'd work while not in combat too. Don't ask me how, but I often hit companions accidently while not in combat. :/

The power specifically says that you don't damage companions anymore. Therefore, even if she reacted to the hit and was lit up like a dooby, it wouldn't damage her. Hence.

Accidentally killing companions was my biggest pet peeve, seriously. You don't know how hard it is to be ridiculously powerful and toss a Fire Storm or Ice Storm spell, only to have your followers all go flying across the room and snap their necks or somestuff. I took that power and never looked back, no regrets.

I just accidentally hit Valdimar with an arrow from my conjured bow and it did not affect him. Thank goodness because I just finished dressing him out in full Stahlrim.

I havnt seen any problems with companions insight.

Illia never takes damage from my hits, neither does bran.

The dwarven spider and mech from the quest will take damage. But I never use'm.

I am still not convinced this ability is working. I just plucked an ebony arrow out of Jordis and I am pretty sure I was the only one using ebony arrows at the time. I am also seeing her light up like a yule log when I accidentally hit her with either my fire enchanted sword or bow. I think furher testing is needed to determine whether this ability really works or not.

She is still going to react to you hitting her.

But she will not take any damage. FUS RO DAH'd my companion off a cliff and waited a few minutes and they came running back.

But the point is, the companion will still react to what ever you do.

They will react to you hitting them and the enchantments still work but they just don't take any damage. I hit Aela when she was down and she didn't die...

Does it work on anyone on your side like guards and villagers? That would make defending towns a little less frustrating.

Same thing happened to me, with Valdimar. He took lightning damage, got mad, attacked me (I didn't fight back at all and had nothing that would reflect damage), took more lightning damage, and keeled over. Whoops.
