Your Favorite Companion

Post » Fri Feb 26, 2016 7:27 pm

As the title says...

Here are my answers, General:

1. Cait; I absolutely love Cait - there is something about Cait that I cannot figure out, but she is such a lovely companion. I am also fond of Curie, MacCready, and Strong.

2. Codsworth; he remains loyal to you for centuries.

3. Cait; see my reason at #1.

4. Nick Valentine.

Love: Danse, Curie, Dogmeat, and MacCready.

Hate: Can't stand Cait and her reckless agenda/evil attitude, Piper and her simply annoying attitude, Strong and his dislike for everything, Preston Garvey... obvious reasons

For me it's Dogmeat early game, Piper the majority of the game, and periodically Danse.

Dogmeat runs in front of me while I travel.

That`s why I feel true companionship only with Dogmeat.

Also love how he barks and seeks my attention from time to time. :P

I'm sure this profile picture will suffice for an answer on the first question.

Also, Nick ftw!

Preston is my favorite companion. I enjoy having him along for the adventure as a genuinely "Good and Selfless" character. I was extremely upset when I found I was unable to recruit him after retaking the Castle... So glad they got that fixed!

Next to Preston is Hancock... There's a certain charm to a pair of Bros crossing the wasteland, getting high and punishing the wicked while hallucinating pink unicorns in combat armor.

I can't use the poll for a few reasons.

Danse and Deacon are my favorites. The responsible one and the snarky one. If I could roll them into one companion I'd be happiest.

I don't like any of the girls (the good, the bad and the cute). So none of them is best and Nick is better than Piper. Nick is probably the best of the companions (writing, characterization plus voice acting is all great), but since he acts like a concerned grandpa I don't travel with him. I would, but I have priorities and there's a handsome Paladin to drag around with me.

And Dogmeat <3 is awesome. He plays with the Teddy Bears and when he follows me it's like having a real dog. Love it. I don't travel with him though because he likes to get up close and personal and spends too much time on the ground whining which makes me sad. So, I leave him in Sanctuary with Mama Murphy while I go fight the good fight.

Dogmeat is my go to in pretty much all my playthroughs, he has no like/dislike stuff to keep track of, his ability to distract mobs is very useful and the fact the lone wanderer perk works while you have him gives you so much benefits.

Dogmeat. No judgment.

The best of the rest for me is Cait. She's a firecracker, that one.

Favorite companion: Danse, I like to play dress up with him.

I like Dogmeat since he won't turn on me for shooting a settler while trying to defend them, great loyalty there, Codsworth.

The same as Cait, she has my back no matter what, rather than turning on me after talking about how much they care for me.

Nick is better. He's my second favorite synth, guess who's the first. :P . He's just like a grumpy grandpa sometimes.

Nick Valentine; I'm a fan of Film Noir.

I don't really hate any companion.

Well, besides Preston.

Piper was my first favorite. She had pretty good writing and is very animated. I liked her attitude and pushiness. But It got boring pretty quick.

When I stumbled upon the Railroad and met Deacon, he became an instant favorite. He has a sort of charm that is very alluring. Great attitude. Fun stories. Very relatable to the main character(if you have full affinity, you'll know what I mean). I enjoyed his frequent change of looks and his sarcastic remarks.

Then I met Curie. I enjoyed her company so much, that even after deciding my character was not going to have a romantic interest.. I couldn't resist her charm. She is so cute and very intelligent. Relatable to the main character(because she is pre-war), and relatable to myself(thirst for knowledge, especially biology). I have her running around in an armored white lab coat with energy weapons. <3

My only issue with companions is they tend to like to crouch in front of me when I am trying to line up a snipe shot. Since they are so close I don't see that they are right in front of me. Then I miss my shot and potentially alert those nearby. I have to continuously tell them to "go over there" and make them wait so that they don't "sneak" in front of me again.

*edit* Sidenote - I do really enjoy Nick V., Dogmeat, and Codsworth. But they never really became my favorite. Nick came really close to being a favorite.. I still enjoy his company. Dogmeat is okay, but he doesn't help my style of game play. Codsworth can be annoying and comments on EVERYTHING, look buddy, I can pick a lock or pick up junk if I want to, okay?

Never fond of Preston, I don't like BOS, Cait is a little too brash for my liking(a nice change, but I only like it in small doses), Strong doesn't like that I lockpick and he doesn't sneak... Hancock, McCready, and X6-88 have not yet become my companions. I play a SLOOOOW game. Explore a lot. I know where to find them, just haven't gotten around to them yet. =P

I'm going to go with Nick Valentine for my all-round favorite because of his voice actor, background story, and personal quest. I like just about all of them, some more than others, like Deacon, MacCready, Curie and, of course, Dogmeat. To be honest, I've only done one mission with X6-88 so he didn't have much of a chance.

So Dogmeat > Codsworth, Curie > Cait and Piper, and Nick Valentine > Piper.

I like my animal and robot companions from a gameplay point of view. Can just leave them at home no problem, its great.

Danse, though...His quest was something that tested my ability to roleplay. I don't ever want to spoil it for anyone, but I had my character do something that Danse fully convinced him of, and if it was me doing it personally I would have done something completely different, and probably have never forgiven myself if I did what my character did.

That remains the biggest decision ive made with my characters that has had their ideology and personality completely clash with mine. Stuff like that is why games are awesome.

It was quite easy for me since in my BoS file, it was basically Hoes beforr BoS Bros. It was a bit hard to roleplay the BoS as a full loyal member and did the Blind Betrayal. He's a nice guy after all.

Danse fully convinced my character that his view on the situation is right. My character believed that there could be some compromise of some sort, but that was shattered with the cold logic that Danse put forth.

And once again, that is something that I would have never done. I was a bit shook up by it when I first did the quest, that's one of the few times a game has had a strong emotional impact on me. And its what I would point to when I hear of the few people that still say games aren't art.

Man not much love for Piper, she's bossy and hates when I'm an a-hole, it's like having my real wife travel the wasteland with me.

Spoiler
Canonically though, Danse stays in the Bunker most of the time, basically, he "appears" dead to the rest of the BoS. Scribe Hayden often brings food and clothes and come over to play with him regardless of whether you keep him there or not. He's "dead", so it doesn't weaken the BoS's rules, all the members believe he's dead. Of course, that was probably just my emotional side talking when deciding Danse's fate. I know Maxson's logic and allowing him to live would undermine the BoS's authority and rules. On the other hand, if he spends to rest of his life there or maybe move to a different place once the war is over, there is no need for him to be dead, as long as he's appeared to be dead to the rest of the world.

I voted for Danse as my favorite companion. Part of that being he was the first companion I romanced in the game, so I am a bit biased. He started off very straight-forward but then became more interesting and 3-dimensional as you raised affinity.

I like Codsworth. The rest are trigger happy morons with the tactical sense of mud prawns. And as for that lame, [censored], attention craving, always-in-the-way, whining pooch....

P.S. I see that they edited out the word R E T A R D E D.... I wonder why?
