Your Favorite Movies?

Post » Tue Mar 15, 2011 12:49 am

So, I just finished watching My Neighbor Totoro, which I probably should of gotten to along time ago, however it's been getting put off, over and over and over...

I absolutely loved this movie, but then again, I think http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hayao_Miyazaki is a genius, and I absolutely love everything he does.

So for me, i'd have to say Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and My neighbor Totoro are my favorite movies. I realize i'v stuck my head in the sand here with just one genre of movies, however I think these, personally, outweigh everything else i'v ever watched.

Hayao Miyazaki's films are indeed great. I wouldn't say they are all in the same genre, however. Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke, for example, are actually quite different from each other. Yes, they are both animated and share similar undertones due to both being created by the same man, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are in the same genre (unless you feel like lumping every animated film into the same genre, in which case, well, have at it). Anyway, some of my favorite films, in no particular order:

  • The Fountain
  • The Royal Tenenbaums
  • 2001: A Space Odyssey
  • Children of Men
  • Blade Runner
  • Pulp Fiction
  • Requiem for a Dream
  • Coen brothers' films (O Brother, Where Art Thou?, The Big Lebowski, etc.)
  • I could go on and on, but an etc. will just have to do.

Iv seen most of those and enjoyed them. I guess anime movies grab me more :whistling:

@Sep

I agree, however he has that distinct style I think in all his movies. I, for the sake of making things easier, tend to classify all his stuff in the same stream, due to the same way of story telling and character development.

I have so many favorite movies that listing them all here would be impractical. Seriously. We could be here all night. >.>
I'll just give you... let's say, my top ten, shall we?

In no particular order:

-The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
-Metropolis (the one by Fritz Lang; not the anime)
-The Matrix (shame they never made any sequels)
-City of Lost Children
-M (Peter Lorre~ <3)
-Eraserhead (one of the very, very few horror movies that have actually terrified me)
-Grave of the Fireflies
-The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus
-Wonderful Days (a.k.a. Sky Blue)
-Dr. Strangelove

Don't because you won't really remember any part of the movie for it to make any sense.

Brazil would go on my list but I don't watch it often as it makes me a little depressed.

No order to the list etc.:

-My Fair Lady
-12 Angry Men (1954)
-The Matrix/Die Hard/Speed (only the 1st one in each case)
-In Bruges
-Raise the Red Lantern
-Das Boat (director's cut)
-ST:Wrath of Khaaaaaaaannnnnnn
-Seven
-American Beauty

-That's Entertainment! (1974)

....er, guess I'll stop there. In the old days I would've said the 1st Star Wars but Lucas went and ruined that for me.
