Your favorite way to make money

Post » Tue Aug 23, 2011 10:07 pm

I recently found myself broke after some impulse purchases and needed to make money. I took to hunting Fiends on the western outskirts of New Vegas to harvest chems and energy weapons for sale. The NCR even helps you out! I also like to hunt geckos, tan the hides and sell them. What do you do when you need caps?

I usually have 4000 caps by level 5 by hunting powder gangers and by stealing everything I can get my hands on.

Then I usually kill legionary assassins for fun and profit.

I take advantage of the legionary assassins, as I'm vilified by the legion they send assassins after me very frequently, they carry decent gear such as brush guns, assault carbines, 12.7mm smg's and super sledges so I just flog them to the gun runners, make some decent caps. I really want to gamble more and will on my next playthrough, but even with a luck of 8 I never seem to win :(

For me it's more of a combo of choice 2 and 4, killing :gun: lots of fiends, or other gangs and scaving  every dang thing I can get my hands on.

Nowadays all I do is pick up caps and chems to sell, everything else I pick up is either ammo or repair scrap for my gear. I rarely visit merchants except when I run low on bullets/cells/stimpacks.

I don't really care about caps that much. There is enough loot, from just playing the game to have caps for ammo. The only time I really get a need for caps is for implants. That is usually around the time I get the Jury Rigging perk. If I save all the weapons from fallen enemies. I can obtain more than enough caps for all the implants. My current character is Melee only. So no need for ammo.

Jury Rigging = Unlimited Wealth

I'm never really broke, but my primary source of income is by picking up "junk" found in containers. Examples would be Cigarette Packs, Cartons, Alcohol, and Pre War Money.

This was actually my first character to ever be poor. I have the cowboy perk and picked up the lever-action shotgun on a lark (fully repaired at Gun Runners) along with some weapon mods for guns I haven't aquired yet (.44 mag). Before I knew it I did not even have enough money to get onto the strip.

I agree that smokes and booze are a great way to make money, and why not? In this world smokes and booze are very in-demand as they should be.

I began playing my first character again. It's pretty ridiculous how often Caesar sends assassins after you. It's impossible to go broke when you're vilified by the Legion, although they do put up a good fight.

What do I do when I'm low on caps? Kill something. Almost anything will do, as long as it has something I can see.

My character is totally broke right now, I'm going into the Sierra Madre for gold bars and endless supplies of weapon repair kits and stimpacks.

just farming basically. kill things, sell things.

Though after reading that thread about creating a "Druid" That doesn't sound like a bad way to make some cash... It would be a fun way to RP.

Going to kill Fiends and Supermutants for their gear and then selling it. Fun and it pays well.

I intentionally keep myself poor for most of the playthrough. I rarely have more than a few thousand caps.
Anyhow, when I'm out of money I might do some quest that I know earns me money. Also I might just go hunting.
