Your favorites?

What are your favorite parts of elder scrolls lore? It can be your favorite book, story, character, race, animal, song, color, whatever.

I think my favorite character is vivec, maybe no surprise there. When I played morrowind I really didn't care for the buoyant armigers, but the more I read about them, the more interesting the seemed. Was it MK that called them 'bisixual samurai'?

The story of Cyrus and Vivec (the blade meeting, I think its called) was superb. And although it isn't canon, tho orc creation myth over at temple zero is amazing. It would be great to see it become an in-game book, perhaps with a little editing.

That's just a few of my favorite bits off the top of my head... to be honest I'm constantly finding more and more interesting stuff! What are some of yours?

Edit: oh, and my favorite explanation for the disappearance of the dwarves, from MK's post about the nords lack of a creation myth: "That's what happened to the Dwarves, by the way: their minds froze to death by thinking one thing over and over until poof, gone in a belch of a mountain." :)

Oh this is hard.

My definite favourite lore is that surrounding the Dunmer. After that it's the lore surrounding the Nords.

Character? Definitely Mr Fyr.

I'm also very interested in House Telvanni.

Pretty much anything from a Daedric perspective. There's no substitute for the words of the inhabitants of the planes of Oblivion.

I second Akavir and would love to see it and the other continents expounded upon from a mythic perspective. I'd love to see Atmora too some day. :spotted owl:

My favorite race is the Tsaesci, and I'd love to see them used as a plot device someday. (A gigerish commentary in another post of mine on the subject inspired some new imagery for them in my head.)

On Tamriel I'd love to see Black Marsh and the Hist to see what the world looks like from something so alien. Also the Summerset Isles sound amazing, especially with the implications of the Crystal Tower.

I also really would like to see Adamantine Tower again in game someday.

Ooh and I wanna see the sload. :obliviongate:

Awkwardly I'd also love to know if anything lives on the Moons. ;) (Probably not, but would be interesting from a lore perspective.)

I agree with this, and I was a little disappointed with 'the infernal city'. Clavicus vile's realm seems incredibly interesting, but unfortunately much of the action in the realm focused on the main character increasing her alchemy skill by cooking. Maybe the next one will be better.

On the topic of novels, the graphic novel included in redguard is great. It would be cool if they used this format in the future. Imagine a series of elder scrolls graphic novels written by MK, I would be all over that!

My main focus of interest in the lore revolves around Lorkhan and the Dwemer. The Battle of Red Mountain is a very interesting thing as well, with the Tribunal and Dagoth Ur and the murder of Nerevar and the disappearance of the Dwemer. It's all great. Lorkhan is my favorite deity from any source or media. The Dwemer have always been fascinating, and part of me wishes that I could play as one and experience their culture and ideas and technology. Even thousands of years later their technology still works and yet we can't seem to figure it out. Great stuff.

I'm also really interested in the gods. All of them. Aedra or Daedra or other.

Vivec is my favorite character across the series. How can he not be?

Race: the Nedic peoples of Cyrod. Person: Vivec, Alessia, all the random people who exist exist in this world but do not partake in the big events. Book: Pocket Guide 1st edition, probably, despite being able to recite solid chunks of the Sermons off the top of my head. Timeperiod: Alessian Dominion Order and the early 2nd era. Ridiculously important, totally unexplored, and potentially unlike anything we have seen. Basically, I like the liminal things that exist outside what first comes to mind.

Lore: Vampires and werewolves.

Book: "Immortal Blood", "Manifesto Cyrodiil Vampyrum" & "On Lycanthropy."

Character: Janus Hassildor & Daedric Prince Hircine.

I like how the character of Hircine surrounds the theme of the Hunt. While he is not evil, he is not benevolent either. Many people see Hircine as an evil demon-god because they feel threatened at being the hunted instead of the hunters. He reflects human nature at it's finest. We hunt animals to eat and kill and sometimes even for sport, so it's either pleasure or nescessaity. It is no different when he hunts mortals. Which makes him admirable. And the father of werewolves and Lycanthropes! Can't get any more badass than that.

I'm quite interested in the Argonians/Hist. Particularly, their beliefs and non-Imperialized lifestyle. I'd imagine their beliefs to be a rather alien compared to Man and Mer's (ironic since the Hist are the among least alien thing on Nirn, which also makes them all the more interesting).

The things that interest me the most are Lorkhan/Akatosh, and on a smaller scale, the Khajiit. I love the desert and desert cultures, and the Khajiit are such a unique and strange race.

I'll second that. I'm fascinated by the weird, shadowy glimmers that we've seen of of that period of history.

Agreed. That subject never ceases to interest me, I think because we're given different stories describing the events and none have ever been designated as the "real version". It's fun to speculate and wonder.

My favorite character from the genre is Dagoth Ur. After being a gamer for so long, it was amazing to face the character who was supposed to be Morrowind's Devil and discover that he wasn't the traditional "evil bad guy who does evil things just for the sake of being evil". Like everyone else in Morrowind, Dagoth Ur was a shades of gray character.

I guess one of the things that make Akavir my favorite TES topic is the Ka Po' Tun and to what extent they are similar/ related to the Khajiit.

There where once men on Akavir , where they Nords who set off from Atmora ? If not an entirely separate race ?

Maybe there are no different races on Akavir, Maybe, the Ka Po' Tun are Khajiit, Maybe the Tsaeci are Argonians, maybe the Tang Mo are simply Imga and maybe the kamal are some kind of intelligent troll/goblin race. Maybe/ Im probably wrong, but these races could easily be the races of Tamriel in various stages of evolution ahead or backward, not to mention they could be the races of Tamriel changed willingly/ as punishment by a daedric Prince.

Just food for thought, Akavir gets my mind buzzing, I don't think you can categorically say any of the above isnt true, but you can sure as hell say its verrrrrry unlikely.

Very broadly, I'd have to say the abstracts; the nature of the spirits/immortals, the mythic/heroic roles, and possible states of being, quasi-divine ancestory, etc. These appeal to me a lot more than the lives of common people, the races and factions of Tamriel and their activities. Although they're of course utterly bound together.

More specifically, I love the Tribunal; particularly Vivec, as a concept moreso than as a character (a vengeful, hermaphroditic self-made divinity served by elite bisixual temple warriors? sign me up!); and Almalexia, as an equally magnetic and loathsome, very flawed hero-goddess.

I love the stories of Nerevar and the Tribunal, and one thing I disliked about Morrowind (as a story, rather than as a game) was the feeling that those times had forever moved on, and the world the Nerevarine occupied was forever less heroic, less mythic, than that of Nerevar.

All that said, choosing a favourite character is tough. I'll cheat and say... the Prisoner.

all the precious monkey truths flirting about (thanks everyone).

Vivec, the Almsivi, and Morrowind/Resdayn history are always fun, but to introduce some new things...

I'd say my favorite character is Percius Mercius. An all-around good guy, grounded, tries to do the right thing, and looks out for you.

Favorite character from lore would be the Shezzarine that is Tiber Septim/Talos/Ysmir/Wulfharth/The Underking for the reason of that long name. A lot of mystery surrounding one individual, hugely influential, and a big part of the pantheons of men.

Favorite topic in lore's the metaphysics, the creation stories, etc.

I suppose for me it's the feeling of having what appears to be thousands of years worth of history spread out across a huge continent. Makes you feel insubstantial at times in the game. It's very hard to pull off lore and "made up" history without making it sound fake and cheesy *cough dragon age*. The very special lore for me is what sets the series apart from its competitors.
