Your fighting style

Post » Sun Feb 20, 2011 1:41 am

This is a thread on what your first/favored fighting style will be? From what i've read so far there are the new brutal animations, stronger bows, perk trees, dual wielding, shield bashing etc. Bethesda stated you'll "feel like your fighting for your life", which is a great sign. It looks better to me, only bad thing so far is you can't block with a weapon in one hand and spell in the other. :sadvaultboy: It won't bother me though, i'll be using dual shortswords with a huge emphasis on speed/finesse and acrobatics. :toughninja: How about you guys? Feel free to give any new information on combat here to! I can't wait for some good long combat gameplay.

http://gamerant.com/elder-scrolls-5-skyrim-details-quests-combat-dyce-68544/ is where it says no blocking with spell/sword combo.
Third paragraph from the bottom, page 1.

aww, we can't block with 1h swords now? sad face
I'm probably going to use the basic sword and shield with only using restoration magic for my first char.
then probably a mage, but I'll have to see how they changed first. I was gonna be a mage first, but I think i'll just stick to the basics my first time. Oh yeah, and light armour, no heavy armour.

Mage, either magic/sword or dual-wielding magic spells.

Mage with a staff, so long as staves now actually funnel your spells (e.g. Dragon Age) and not their own enchantments.

I'll try everything, but probably get a shot off with my bow before switching to my trusty short sword and some icy magic to go along with it. Also, I think you can still block with weapons, it just won't be nearly as effective. It wouldn't make sense to not be able to block with your weapon. That would break combat for me.

Pshh, speed and finesse are for women. I'll be going for power so i can knock my enemies into the air with my powerful shield bashes and cut them in half with my longsword! :)

What fighting style i use is going to depend A LOT on how the combat system will acctually turn out to be. I can't wait for some real gameplay footage where we see a combat scene with a normal humanoid and perhaps another combat scene against some beast. It's going to determine whether i'll be using a longsword + shield, longsword + shortsword or double longsword combo during my first playthrough :).

My fighting style? I'd take that huge greatsword and hit stronger and faster than the enemy.

Sword & spell combo with a shield in reserve, a bow for long range poison application and dual wield when sneaking. So pretty much everything i can get in one character. It will be a nice challenge playing jack of all trades master of none type character. Later playtroughs I will probaly specialize more.

Hit and run.

Repeat until targets are dead.

Then Loot.

From a distance, i'll be shooting the enemies down with a bow. If they get close, i'll pull out dual-shortswords and go ninja on their ass. :celebration:

Depends on the fight. In Oblivion I prefer to fight as a mage with sword and no armor. I like to get three or four good strikes in, then follow it up with a spell. Sometimes I will use this spell I created called "Matchstick" with 100% weakness to fire for like 10 seconds, then attack with powerful fire spell. I like to use another spell I created called "Electric Judgment" with 100 shock damage for 2 seconds (200 pts shock damage) which is pretty powerful. But I still like to mix things up. During a fight I sort of go back and forth between weapons and spells to make it interesting, but for attackers that I find only a nuisance like bandits on the roads, I just hit them with Electric Judgment once and they dead instantly. I only use staffs as a backup because their charge is limited and must eventually be recharged. Even so, I have custom spell that dwarf any staff in the game, so it's almost pointless for me to use them. I used them a lot more early on in the game at low levels.

This highly depends on how well combat styles work. My initial plan is some combination of stealth/magic but if using physical weapons is brutal without any option to disable blood I will likely go full magic rather than stealth/magic hybrid.

assassin type character tooled for ranged combat but with a sword and a knife for close in work and poisons all round.

I never really like the straight hack and slash combat but if they've redone the combat i might give that a go with dual wielded hammers/maces/axes and heavy armour

I'll try to avoid combat mostly if I can't fight any interesting weapon. I do hate daggers, swords, axes and maces as well as fantasy-style hammers.

Well I hope that inability to block with spell&sword is misinformation, cause that's my main style. I'll also switch to dual-wielding two longswords and dual-wielding spells depending on the situation.

When I first knew for sure the game was Skyrim, I wanted to be a bearded male Nord.

Wen I heard there was Dual Wielding, I wanted to be a Barbarian, with light armor and two war axes.

He's going to be a pure melee character with little use for bows or magic, as my first characters usually are in these games. Later I will experiment with other styles. I have plans for a Dunmer spellsword and an Orc boxer at some point, and maybe an Argonian assassin.

My first character in both Morrowind and Oblivion was a heavily armored Imperial fighter who I roleplayed a bit as a pro Empire paladin. He will make a return eventually, but I want to side with the Nord loyalists with my first character since I've heard there will be a choice in the storyline to support Skyrim's independence or the Empire.
