Your First Character! -Poll Edition-

Post » Sat Mar 26, 2011 5:20 pm

Simple thread. Interesting to see the results though. I want to cover as many areas of your first character as the polls with allow to get a feel for how people play a new Elder Scrolls game for the first time.

My picks:

Race - Breton

Focus - Completing Every Quest Line or a Mix of the Main Quest Line and some Faction Quest Lines

Archetype - Mix: Stealth/Magic

Naughty or Nice - Mostly Nice, but with a Bad Side!

Gender - Male

Also, don't be afraid to tell us why you are going to play the way you are. Tradition? Experimenting? Just cause you can?

Female Altmer Sorceress. A virtual saint, but appreciates the finer things in life.
Likes : exploring, shortswords, fine clothes, picking flowers, healing magic, reading books, shoes, helping others, expensive wines, and Argonian humour.
Dislikes : anyone who really deserves a fireball to the face.

Argonian assassin, most likely male, sometimes evil sometimes neutral. Main focus: exploring, killing the rich, plundering, hunting. I don't think I'm going to finish the main quest with the first char, maybe I go half way to see if it's good.

Male Breton, start with a stealth ranged shot, weaken with magic as they charge in, then finish off with a sword and shield combination. My standard first character, isn't interested in the evil or criminal quests. Unlike my later characters, I will reload this one if I die. The main goal is to play through the main quest and any other quests that meet his morals.

A mage/thief combo, argonian female, usually on the good side. I HOPE I beat the main quest and all the factions in one play, in case they are immersive, different and well written.

Most likely a Nord female that is 90% combat with use of potions for healing. I always play as a good character. For me TES games are about exploring the world, typically I avoid the story for the first 1/2 of my game and only really finish it at the very end of 200+ hours.

I really do not like playing through the games more than twice. Once pure combat, and then once pure stealth as a quick play through. That could change if TES became more dynamic with emergent game play based on AI and player actions. A living world where the game is generating unscripted missions would be the only way I would ever play a TES game more.

I hope with Skyrim playing as a Nord allows for some interesting perks.

A male breton using daggers and bows as weapons, with the focus being stealth assassin type with strong poison capabilities.

I will be a breton male who is mostly naughty. Mostly exploring and doing faction quests first. Main story can wait.

Argonian Male, Pure Stealth, He is not known to be both a muderer and a thief to the public, but freely does both when he robs houses and assassinates persons in high places, explores the world and cities.

I didn't expect this many people to like Bretons! :celebration:

The Argonian love is unexpected to, though I suppose it's not really surprising.

I'll be making a female Nord named Vannora Shale-Fist. She's going to be Neutral for all intents and purposes, as most of my characters are because I don't like applying one morality viewpoint on them. My main focus is going to be completing every quest I possibly can, as well as obtaining any and all unique artifacts, as well as exploring all of Skyrim.

I will be playing a female Nord who uses combat and stealth and is more interested in exploring the world, than doing a main quest. :poke: Why save the world doing the MQ when theres important rocks to look behind and snowy fields to traipse through....

Imperial
a Mix of the Main Quest Line and some Faction Quest Lines
Pure Stealth
Mostly nice, but with a bad side!
Male

I will explore the world, I will start/complete the stealth guild(s), but my main focus will be the main quest.
I think I'll complete one or two factions before finishing the main quest, but the main quest will still be my number one focus.
It's gonna be epic.

What race will your first character be?

Nord for sure. I want to fully bask in the the Viking themed Skyrim and it just wouldn't be right without being a Nord first. Going to hopefully have a full featured beard and make myself look like an authentic Viking.
What will be the main focus of your first character?

Basically I just want to enjoy the game of Skyrim. I'm not one that goes who grinds through the Main Quest or any of the factions right away. I tend to be in the group of players who like to explore and do side stuff, taking on random quests as you go, and doing some main quests here and there. For Skyrim I plan on doing a little more of the main story then I did starting out in Oblivion though. I literally talked to Jauffre and then never did another mission on that for like 5 months. LOL.

I'm sure hunting/fighting Dragons and discovering the Dragonscript Walls will be a key focus of my exploration throughout though.

What "archetype" will your first character be?

For my first character I probably will go as close to pure Melee as possible. I will likely attempt to try dual wielding but probably revert back to sword and shield. Eventually though I want to make a character for each combat style and try them all out. Especially Melee + Magic combo.

Will your first character be naughty or nice? (If such options are available)

Chaotic Good  I want the freedom to do want I want with little regard for what others expect of me. My exploring ways mean I would like to do things my own way. Go where and do what I want. Still based and believe in goodness and doing right from wrong but I don't want to be handcuffed by the laws and regulations of Skyrim. If I wanna steal to benefit myself I will do so. If I need to go somewhere off limits I'll do so discretely. Just don't tell me what to do and we're cool.

Chaotic good is the best alignment you can be because it combines a good heart with a free spirit.

A misanthropist Nord hermit-shaman.
The tribunal of mage/thief/warrior doesn't work anymore in the new system, so I can't tell which aspect would be the strongest. Probably a mix of illusion magic, staves and blunt weapons.

I'm going to make that Imperial I came up with from the thread "What is your character's backstory?"

Aninias Einaudi
-Imperial
-Exploring the world a bit.
-Combat/Stealth
-Nice
-Male

Now the "tradition", would have me playing as a Nord; as a Nord was the first race I ever played in TES. I got hooked on Morrowind, then played as Nord for my first time through Oblivion. Which I may do again for Skyrim. But I don't really have a template laid out yet that I want to use for that charatcer. So, I'm going to use an Imperial and learn about the lands of Skyrim, so I'll know what I want to do for my Nord. :foodndrink:

I'll probably do what I always do with these games and make three totally different characters, one right after the other, and rotate play between them to enjoy the different approaches.

Female Bosmer Rogue. Charisma and luck. Pacifist? Approach: diplomacy first, stealth second, running away if those don't work. Violence as last resort - bow and arrow only. Up front confrontations are too scary.
(I finished New Vegas without ever firing a shot as a variant of this character :))

Female Redguard Fighter. Strength and endurance. Nasty mercenary. Approach: action! Violence first, diplomacy last. It's fun cutting conversations short with this character.

Male Dunmer Magic-User. Intelligence, intelligence, intelligence. Approach: informational. Do the research, then apply a minimum of (magical) force to obtain maximum results. Get your hands dirty as little as possible.
