Your first gaming all nighter

Post » Sat Jul 24, 2010 7:55 pm

I've never pulled a gaming all nighter and to be honest it sounds terrible.

Well its actually quite fun, as long as you're not mad tired...

Some of my fondest gaming memories are from all nighters with my friends playing GW, or just me finishing up Tribunal for the first time and so on...

The closest I've ever come to an all-nighter was when Halo Reach came out. I stayed up until around 5:30AM, so I assume the sun was rising. The room I was in didn't have windows, so I had no idea what time it was until I looked at my phone.

I did this a lot with Morrowind, mostly at univeristy (because at home my parents would chivvy me on to bed). I usually got a wake-up call (literally) when the birds started chirping. In winter this was about 6:30. What can I say? I was hooked.

I mean I was hooked with Daggerfall too, but after 6 hours my dad would usually turf me off and send me to bed with threats of disownment. University was a whole different world. And now....? I have my own house and keep my own time, so I usually turn Oblivion off about 3:30am. Makes posing in front of a photocopier (ostensibly my job) damn hard, I must admit.

I think I was playing pokemon red, time flew by as I played with the awkward gameboy light attachment under the covers. Next thing I knew my mom whipped over the covers and said "Get up it's time for sch- ..." *takes away gameboy for week* (I wasn't supposed to play on weekdays).

I honestly don't remember which game I played the first time I pulled an all-nighter. It would have been when I was in high school...so...something from the early 1990's...most likely a PC game, and most likely something of the RPG or strategy variety. Those are the ones that usually make me lose track of time. :P

Watch it, punk. You're basically shouting out a racial slur in the bad part of town. *Pops knuckles, upon doing breaks a finger and bawls out crying*

Civilization

Never fails.

I've done many all nighters playing games. Morrowind, Oblivion, CoD games from 4 on. I'm sure there are many more, Civilization I can't put down. I keep saying, "just one more turn" then its 4 am. The most I think I've ever sat and played a game is 12-14 hours though. I'm sure it was Oblivion too. Though when I played Morrowind I didn't have a job or anything to really worry about or a girlfriend for that matter so it would have been much easier to sit and game a lot during the summer.

Lol...he said in an RPG dev forum...in which he's posted over 1200 times... :P If pulling all-nighters makes you a nerd then I'm much more of a "stayed out all night drinking" nerd than a video game nerd...and I've pulled more than a few gaming all-nighters. ;)

Probably The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. A ridiculously engrossing game in its day. Also with Final Fantasy VIII (the battle & progression systems really drew me in, for some reason), and later Neverwinter Nights (online multiplayer on modders' gameworlds, including my own).

Morrowind had the all-nighter effect too, and Oblivion as well, even on a PC woefully inadequate in the graphics department.

All in all, far too many all-nighters as a result of RPGs. I've more sense nowadays, and sleep properly no matter how much I'm into a game or mod; although Skyrim might be a test in that regard.

Christmas Day when the PS2 first came out. Me and my brother just stayed up all night playing Timesplitters.

I love Timesplitters

For me it was hellgate: london, less so on the game (the game was reason enough) but more so on a freshly adopted young kitten SCARED THE HELL OF ITS MIND (the late great Seamus wasn't even able to sleep, poor cat)

My real all nighter was Cryostasis, and when i quit i saw it was 10:00 am, i started at 9:00pm the night before

Well there was San Andreas. But recently, if I do pull an All nighter, it's because of Minecraft.

The first time I ever did a all nighter was when I was about 8, me and my friend stayed up all night and played Donald Duck: Goin' Quackers for the DreamCast and beat it :)
I've done all nighter since then for games like Metal Gear, WoW, Oblivion, ect.

by definition to me at least is not sleeping at least until the sun comes up, meaning not going to bed at 4am but rather 3pm lol

The Sun comes up at 15:00? Where the [censored] do you live, bottom of a canyon?!

Anyway, I'm not 100% sure what my first gaming all-nighter was, but I am certain one of my first ones was SW:KotOR.

My first all-nighter was LBA - Twinsen's Adventure (Little Big Adventure). Although it was more like an all 3 nighter, I only stopped to go to the toilet every now and then. Don't remember when it was, but it must have been when I was 13, sometime in 1994.
