Your first gaming all nighter

Post » Sat Jul 24, 2010 8:18 pm

Idk about you guys but when ive pulled an all nighter the game thoroughly deserved it (by definition to me at least is not sleeping at least until the sun comes up, meaning not going to bed at 4am but rather 3pm lol). Ive only done it for a number of games. Monster Hunter on the ps2, which i played from a friday night til sunday afternoon, that game was like crack. Morrowind and Cod4 are the only other 2. I have a good feeling Brink may fall into this legendary category (to me at least). What are some games that you enjoyed so much that you couldnt put down the controller even tho the sun was coming up? Hope to seem some answers other than WoW out there too lol.

Edit- Just noticed the topic name is for ur first one lol, my first is monster hunter but please feel free to share all your experiences

Never had an all-nighter either... stayed up til the wee hours of the morning playing SOCOM:C and Dragon Age: Origins when I first got them though. Also woke up at 3am every Saturday for a month or two to play the MAG 2.0 beta since it was only open for a short window of time shared internationally (which was prime-time-ish in US/UK/EU, but VERY early morning in NZ).

But heck, I expect Brink will be my first. I'll pig out on coffee the day I get it, and keep it running all night.

EDIT: I have done over-nighters with laser tag though... s00per fun when you start thinking up crazy game mods at 3am in the morning like "no lights" or "constantly exploding mines".

pffff every single final fantasy ive played has been constant all-nighters. FPS have always appealed to me, but never like a good story and character development from a good JRPG

I never played all night because of any certain game. But when I have LAN party with friends, it usually keeps going until next morning.

1st all nighter was Legend of Dragoon for playstation (original) i got it on christmas with the playsation and played for 3 days straight

I am naturally an insomniac so it is no big deal when i do not get sleep it happens often. I just couldn't stop playing that game, i still have all my discs and a bunch of the music from it. I do intend to do the same for Brink heck i got vacation days so i can

I think my first all-nighter would have to be Goldeneye for the N64.
As far as PC games, Counter-Strike definitely would be my first.
Guild Wars would be second. Played the heck out of GW.

Every Friday and Saturday night between 1996 (Pokemon Blue) and 2000 (Pokemon Gold) were all-nighters. :P Then I found myself up the majority of every night playing Star Wars Galaxies (2003-2005) and Final Fantasy XI (2003-2009). The last game I've pulled an all-nighter for was Final Fantasy XIII.

I'd have to say Battlefield 2 with a mod on (dont remember, dont play it anymore). It was a bunch of them, we did battles all over the map.

The only all nighters I pulled with games were Tekken 5 in boarding school, and Oblivion in uni.

Both were completely justified.

I've only been to one LAN party, it was incredible, we played CoD4. Me, my bro, and one of my brothers friends that I know were the only ones that stayed all night, we watched Dirty Harry, then played Battlefield: Vietnam for the rest of the night.

Did it for Final Fantasy VII when I was in junior high and supposed to be finishing a science experiment for a competition (we cheated mercilessly and called it a day). And I've pulled several most-nighters since, but only on Morrowind, Oblivion and Final Fantasy. I must admit, I just feel that Beth brings me into the game better than any other studio... Less so by force of character development or anything in that vein, but more by the sheer breadth of choice available.

Halo 3. Friend and I played doubles and said we'd go to bed once we lost. Yeah we never lost.

Final Fantasy XI (2003-2009)

"Just one more level", right? "The NM will pop in 5 minutes, I swear."

I can't remember my first, but I know I spent a lot of all nighters on Champions of Norrath on PS2. Lots of soda, snacks, 3 of my friends, the multitap and a dad who can sleep through mostly anything. Great nights haha.

Only ever did all-nighter's for MMO types and usually for major expansions/updates maybe like 10 years or so ago -- wouldn't ever do that nowadays.

Final Fantasy 3(VI) on the SNES was probably the first, I played a total of 3 days straight, on the phone the entire time with a buddy, we were having a marathon contest to see who could complete the game first. Deus Ex is probably the most memorable though, as I pulled like 3 all-nighters in the a 5 day time period. Honestly, I've pulled a ton of all-nighters playing video games, some worth it, some not. In high-school, I rarely slept on weekends, so a lot of time was put towards either climbing/hiking, or playing video games. Obviously you can't really climb safely at night, so night times were always video games. Then when I got out of high school, and after I got out of the military, I spent a lot of time playing Diablo 2, and pulled multiple all-nighters playing it, switching back and forth with a buddy of mine. Right now, I consistently play for 3/4 of the night on my DS or PSP, right now it's my DS and Rune Factory 2. I sleep for about 4 hours(from 10a.m. to 2p.m.), then I'm back up for the day.

Oh, also, lol@wingus and SpankyTheElf, I pulled my fair share of all-nighters on FFXI as well, with exactly that mentality "Man, I know this NM is going to pop in 5 minutes, if I go to bed now, I'm going to regret it, cuz it will be the one to finally drop the good stuff" Then 45 minutes later "Well, it hasn't popped yet, so it's GOT to pop soon" then an hour later "Ok, It's nearing the end of it's window, it's literally has to pop in the next 20 minutes" followed by "Stupid NM popped at the last minute of it's window, and it gave me the crap drop! What a bastard! Oh well, guess I better go farm some so I can just buy the damn item instead".

Edit:

I had that magnifying attachment that had a light built into it myself, so not only could I see, but it was easier on the eyes since everything was bigger. Pokemon ftw!. Had the same type of thing for my Sega GameGear! Ahh how I loved spending loads of time on Road Rash!

First all nighter was Christmas 1988. We bought the kids a NES system, with Mario Bros. & Castlevania. We played all day, but when the kids and momma went to bed, I played Castlevania until 8 or 9 the next morning. When I finally did lay down, all I could see were the images of the game burned into my brain. I was hooked.

Have played many 'all nighters' with TES Morrowind, Oblivion, and FO3. All nighters are a natural with me, especially when I first load one up.
I can't stop until I've learned a little bit about the game.

First one was Lord of Midnight on ZX Spectrum in the mid 80's, the very first 3D intelligent adventure/RPG game. Till now, it is interesting to play it. Then maybe Elite and Captain Blood later. Baldur's Gate is the 90's. Finally Space Rangers 2 and The Witcher in the 2000's. Oblivion is good but I cannot spend a night on it. Fallout 3 is much too repetitive, it is good for relaxing after work but that's all.

I can only remember 3 times that I've stayed up all night, no sleep, playing games. When Halo 2 came out, I got it on release day and stayed up all night beating it with a buddy on coop. Second time was while playing Morrowind, after I finally got a bunch of mods installed after first discovering the whole modding scene. Third time was when Oblivion came out, got it on release day for the 360 and stayed up all night playing it.

I should include the many nights I'm up till 4am playing games. :P

I've done so many that I can't keep track of them all. There's just too few daylight hours to do everything you want, and tomorrow always looks further off than it really is.

I've never pulled an "all nighter" to play a video game

At latest I stayed up maybe until 4 a.m. but that's about as late as it has ever gotten.
