There was this comment in another recent thread that made me want to make this thread.
I wanted to answer and ask other people's opinions about this as well. I haven't seen a thread like this here, at least I don't remember I have.
I agree with Shelly. Add that English is not my first language, and I didn't understand everything back in 2004 or such when I first started. I had never experienced an RPG of such scale, either, so half the time I had no clue what I was doing. I constantly failed at spellcasting, got my butt handed to me in dungeons, and realized I'm not very good at this. Still, I decided to give the game the second chance, and third, fourth... I kept coming back to it. It seems it really was worth it, since ever since finding out so much about the world (and finding out there is so much to find out in the first place!) of Vvardenfell I've been a big fan of the game's setting. The environment, the amount of detail, gaming possiblities... they are so a many that you can't quite grasp it during the first few hours! Or, heck, years of gameplay.
So, how I first saw the game was that it had too much stuff to grasp. All the spells, schools, weapon types, potions, places, people, factions, sides, plots, what have we. And why was this shirtless guy giving me random missions, what was he up to? I felt like I don't know anything at all. I didn't know where I should go, what I'm supposed to be doing, and if I'm doing it right. An assumption about games I've since abandoned after finally seeing what Morrowind really offered.
Yes, the game definitely revealed itself slowly to me. And it was all the more rewarding to begin to understand more and more sides of it, a process that is still far from over after all these years.
How about you who have just started? Is it easy enough to swallow? Should it be, even? How about you, veteran gamers, have your thoughts changed since you first started?
