Your first Perk?

Post » Sat Dec 05, 2015 10:01 am

Just curious what people choose as their very first perk.

Is it something you always pick regardless of the type of character you play?

Is it something you picked but later regretted it and wished you had picked something else?

What are your follow-up perks?

It seems to me that I'll always start with the Scrapper perk as even after I just leave the vault I have some stuff I need to scrap right away. That is generally followed by Locksmith and Hacker, and then Gun Nut and Armorer. Seems no matter who I play these get chosen first.

I wanted to get my small guns up & running so went for gunslinger first. It may be different on my second play through.

I think I went for the lockpicking first off. It always bugs me to leave containers locked, even though I'm sure there are more useful perks.

I accidentally got pickpocketing first because the animation looked like it was lockpicking...

I truly meant to start out with lockpicking.

Honestly before the game came out I assumed the first perks would always be the ones that cause more damage with whatever weapon type I use, be it pistols, rifles, energy weapons, etc., but in reality it's the Modding and Open/Hack perks I always go for first. Gunslinger, Rifleman, etc. are what I pick now when I don't meet the level requirements to pick the next modding perk.

Lock Picking. There's nothing more irritating than not been able to get inside a locked container! Hacking was second. After that I forget, I think they were to do with modding and settlements... It was sometime until I got a combat focused one!

Lockpicking and Hacking are must for any character I make. Other then that it depends on my build.

My first perk aquagirl I simply hate the idea of getting damage just by looking at a puddle (slight exaggeration but you get the point). Next followed lockpicking and hacking. Because if I can't open some place it annoys me way too much.

My very first one was gunslinger, because that's what I had the most ammo for. But I ran with Rifleman after that. I don't generally regret perk picks given that another is usually not that far away, though I doubt I'll waste one on gunslinger for my next character as I never use the pistols.

My current (and still first) character is a builder/enhancer/gunner. He has the most perks sunk into settlement building and crafting, followed by personal enhancements (aquaboy, immunity to chem addiction and maximum duration for chems ... stuff like that) and maxed out Rifleman.

Gunslinger to help make my bullets more effective then scrounger to help me find more. Scrounger is an early game short term perk though as long term it's kind of pointless.

Instantly picked Sneak to gain that stealthy advantage as soon as possible. Strangely enough, that was the last time I touched the perk, as I've kept it at rank 1 for over 40 levels now. Don't necessarily regret it because I like the perk, just don't like how further ranks negate traps entirely from the game. I like the challenge of keeping on my toes and looking out for traps for myself, not some perk to hold my hand. One issue I have with the new perk system shoving all of these previous perks together.

But my perks after that were the basics for my planned build. Better Criticals, Action Boy, Science!, Locksmith, Hacker, Ninja, and Gun Nut.

lock picking and hacking may have been a better choice early on in fo3 and nv, but i somewhat regret getting it early in fo4.
