My first video game was Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt. I guess I must have been 2 when I tried it. And I guess it took one or two more years before I actually *played* it rather than moving Mario around without knowing why, without knowing how the game worked.
I still play it today from time to time. I've yet to finish it.

My first violent game was Wolfenstein 3D at my cousin's house. First violent game I owned was Warcraft 1 and Warcraft 2 Battle Chests. :chaos: (Or was it Duke Nukem 3D when I was 9 years old? Anyway, I'll always be thankful to my parents back then, as they let me purchase violent games even though I was way under the age rating...My mother bought me Conker's Bad Fur Day for my birthday. I was 15. :D )

My nephew used to play Duck Hunt on the Super Nes with the gun addon. It always amazed me how great the Super Nes was this after already having a pc. Wolfenstein 3D was alot of fun and i really loved the layout of the castles which alot of times gave me a tranquil mood during the rare moments i wasnt being acttacked by super human leather clad females and zombies crashing through walls :cryvaultboy:

Yes Warcraft was amazing with its visual beauty and strategic depth which was a big step up from the popular rts Command And Conquer formula of the day. I still have the Battle Chest collection or something similar buried in my storage boxes somewhere i brought from the game mail order company SSI in Canada. Wonder if they're still around.

Some kind of Space Invaders game on Intellivision. I think my brother still has that console, and as far as I know it still works.

Oh now I don't rememeber. It was Space Invaders or something like that. Back then when the dinosaurs roamed we had to Walk (because kids have to be driven every today, :P) to the arcade ( a place where people came together to play video games, on bank like ATM machines, or Pinball machines). Sometimes, individual stores like corner stores, would have a few machines as well. We had to put in quarters or 25 cents to play. You kids these days don't know how cheap your gaming experiance is now. :D

Back then there was no colour, just black and white or green. Very pixiliated. It was alot of fun. My mom would yell at me for stealing her laundry money so I could play these games. We had no controlers, just a joystick and 2 buttons most times. Then came Pac Man and Donkey Kong, the stuff before Mario that you see on Nintendo now. There was no playing video games at home at all. We actualy had to go out of the house and do things.

Damn, now I feel old, thanks alot. LMFAO.

Seems like the arcade was probably the first video game I played, but I liked pinball and air hockey better. Money better spent. We had a neighborhood teen hangout, and yes everybody walked. Nobody would stand for the embarrassment of having Mom drop you off. [edit~but some older kids even had cars, of course]
Then came Intellivison.(my younger brother's) Then came NES (Castlevania was my favorite) for our kids. I lost interest after that until Morrowind.

whatever was on the original Atari system in the mid 70s. I remember liking Breakout alot. then later came Apple II and Comodore 64. I remember Asteroids on Apple II, and Donkey Kong on the 64. of course there were video arcades as well.

I can't tell you for sure, but I'm pretty sure it's between Jazz Jackrabbit or Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past when I was like 3 or 4.

I remember watching my mom playing Zelda, and stealing the controller when she took a break. And asking her to get Jazz running on the computer(it was a DOS game).

Possibly some Snake clone on the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commodore_VIC-20. But the first game I remember enjoying was http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wizard_of_Wor on the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commodore_64 (most successful home computer of the 1980s).

I can't remember. My friend had C64, so we played games like Spy vs Spy (or was that on Amiga?) and Last Ninja. (I do remember being impressed by the graphics when it comes to the start-up screen and the picture of the ninja face in Last Ninja, though).

Add me to the Pong club, or one of its knock-offs. What did I think of its graphics? Um, I didn't; I just asked my dad for more quarters ;) How old? I dunno, 5?

First console game would be a Pong home game (opposed to an arcade or bar style) in 3rd grade....say '76-77. First one I owned was the Atari 2600 with the Combat cartrige. It was the summer of 5th grade, and my folks took pitty on me since I had a broken leg.

First computer game? Might be a text adventure that I've never seen named about being ona red planet, and having to climb a treee at one point to grab a golden leaf. Or it could have been Oregon Trail. Both were on the school's sole Apple computer.

At home it was the original Wizardry trilogy on the Aplle IIe. Got the computer by telling my folks that I could type homework on it was well with the 80 column extension card! It was a dual monitor system too! I had to switch the cable between the monochrome green for 80-column and the color monitor for games ;)

Have I put down the controller? not really, but it's been more keyboard style gaming than controllers.

It was either a version of street fighter 2, or super mario world. It is easy to say that my world was never quite the same after that day.

How old were you when you first played a game?
What game was it?
What did you think the graphics were like back then?
Did you ever let down the controller after that? ;p

You sure make a lot of threads...all in the community discussion. Which forum member are you, really? :ninja:

Age: 5 or 6
Game: Wolf 3D for the Power PC (Macintosh)
Graphics: Wolf 3d was one of the first implemented 3D first person shooters. To me, it seemed quite fun to watch.
Controller: I didn't pick up a controller until I got a SNES when I was 8. I've moved from one console generation to the next. I think the biggest gap between console generations for me was between the Xbox and the Xbox 360. I remember purchasing Oblivion in excitement without even owning the console.

Only thing that comes to mind were the MSDOS games Fatty Bear and Putt Putt Joins the Parade. I was 3-4 years old at the time. Before that, my idea of a "video game" was clicking anything and everything I could in Windows 3.1 when i was 2 years old.

Quake, Duke Nukem 3D, and Decent II were shown at a computer store and I couldn't help but watch in awe. Me being 12 at the time, I found the three awesome looking. :celebration:

Table top tennis (Or "Pong") at the Museum of Science and Tech back in Ottawa in the late 70's or early 80's. (I was in grade school on a field trip. Poor memory keeps me from nailing a better date. Between 79-81 though.)

It lead me to seek out arcades. I spent most of my free, and not so free time playing all sorts of 80's classics. (I got dragged out by my ear when I skipped school and mom found out one time. :whistling: )

it was centipede on the atari 2600, i was about nine maybe,
but i never really got into games till way later, my brother was the gamer,
and i only got svcked in when they started getting really atmospheric - tomb raider was the turning point for me,
we had a ps1 in a flat we sold weed from, with no memory card, so we couldn't save progress,
if we died we had to re-start the game from the beginning, the others used to give up and go to bed,
but picture me staying up all night every night, stoned out of my face, going half blind until i had that [censored] down cold.
