on your first playthrough...

I headed north from Vault 101, and found a raised highway. As soon as I set foot on it, Raiders started shooting at me. I ran the gauntlet of the highway, fighting Raiders as I went. I saw all the ruined cars and thought "great, I can hide behind those!". That is how I learned that cars explode when people shoot them... :flamed:

Well, I did remove the compass with darnified Mod, but if you don`t have mod capability I guess removing the HUD might work although it would be very hard since you can`t check your health very easily.

i hotkey stimpacks... when i hear a heartbeat i hit the stimpack button. i also periodically check the stats

I had a failed very first try that is not worth talking about. It was set to normal by default. I tried to do the Those quest. I kept wondering, this is hard for easy.......
Then I found it was on normal, changed it to very easy but it was too late and I deleted her.

This time I came out, wandered round, avoided the school, and wandered round Megaton in the dark, going 'I wonder were Megaton is......What's this rock like thing'.......

Then sent it forward till daytime and saw it was Megaton.

I also mistook Rivet City for a large wrecked building. I kept wandering round the entrace going 'how do I get in' and 'where is Rivet City?'

Then I saw the intercom, lol.

I did not make too many mistakes after that. Apart from selling Lincolns Voice to Abraham Washington instead of giving it to the ex slaves, that I think I should have done.

I got horribley lost in the Capitol Building. I loathe that building.

I got lost a lot.

I just looked on the wikia and put markers in the maps in the area it said and hoped I would find places sometimes.

Or I just wandered round exploring, going towards the interesting stuff.

I am good this playhrough. Once I hit level 30 I will have all the good karma trophies. I will be bad and do the bad karma trophies next playthrough.

At level 2 or 3 I headed towards the sewers near Dukov's place for the molerat part of Moira's quest. Saw an Enclave soldier blasting away at something behind the building. He showed red on the compass but his armor looked just like those jerk-ass-but-friendly Brotherhood Outcasts I've passed by earlier, so I thought the marker was just confused and went over to say hi...

I intentionally avoided following the quests I got and just explored the world out from vault 101 concentric circle style for a while.

Had some brutal run-ins and reloaded saves quite a bit, but learned a lot about the mechanics of the combat, sneaking, exploring, using the maps, scavenging, etc. by doing so. Restarted with a better idea of what I was doing after I'd gotten to level 5 or so...

i have just started playing about a month ago and now found megaton, I first went N and found big town then looked up where to find the dog, got him and have been pretty much wondering around trying to figure things out. PS i am 40 and new to all these games so i don't have the perception that a lot of you have but i am having fun and this is the best game i've played and even recommended it my 21 year old son and his freinds.

I can't really remember much of my 1st playthrough but I know when I steped outside the vault the 1st time my jaw hit the floor.

Same here. That fade to white effect as your eyes adjust to to sunlight for the first time is so well done. Even after having started numerous games since then it still hasn't lost it's awesomeness.

Other odd/stupid things I did first time around-

- Spent an inordinate amount of time in Megaton trying to progress in a few early game quests. I must have spoken to every character at least three times and couldn't work out what I was doing wrong. I then broke into the armory and had no idea why everyone had turned hostile. I thought that I had ruined Megaton for the rest of the game. I then started exploring out of necessity, and the rest is history.

- Attempted the Those! quest with just a Chinese pistol.

- Met Uncle Leo within an hour of leaving Megaton, which I assumed at the time was a normal occurrence. Never saw him again.

- Didn't realise that the Pip-Boy had a light until about level 7.

- Started a fight with an eyebot soon after leaving Vault 101 and almost died.

- Took the Gun Nut perk. Twice.
