Your First Time Playing

Tell us about your first time playing. Was it original, serious? Or was it Just For Fun?

Tell everybody about your first character... Was it original, serious? Or was it Just For Fun?

I'm going to read all comments, becuase I think it's so exciting reading it. Take a good example from Sebor13 in his thread ''Ideas for Ultimate Edition''!

After clocking in so many hours of Skyrim that it can't even run properly on my PS3 I am thinking about Fallout: New Vegas' Ultimate Edition.

I would like some ideas on my first playthrough and what I will be doing.

My character's name will be Reamus 'Phoenix' Falvo, he will be nicknamed Phoenix for being shot in the head and surviving just fine. I will have melee, speech, and survival as tag skills, even though I will also use pistols very often. I will also set the amount I can carry to two hundred (unless I have enough to overencumber me, in which case I will have to remain overencumbered until I can drop my carry weight back down to two hundred). I will mostly use spears and machetes, having started with the Tribal Pack, I will have my character consider siding with the Legion for a while but will ultimately side with House. He will also be armed with dynamite he gets from dead Powder Gangers, a 9mm pistol, and a varmit rifle.

I will be role playing a tribal from southeastern Utah who went west to the NCR for work and adventure at the age of seventeen. He got a job as a courier and his third job was to deliver the device to the Divide (sorry, this is the spoiler section). His fifth was the Platinum Chip.

After he's shot in the head and left in a shallow grave he is furious, it is the ultimate insult to not give a fallen enemy a proper burial when you have the means (meaning having a shovel). He hunts down Benny to complete his contract and to punish him for his crimes.

Along the way he goes to the Sierra Madre and get all of the gold bars along with all of the weapons you get (I saw a video on how to do it and will attempt it). After that he finishes his trip to New Vegas and kill Benny in his casino, fufilling his need for vengeance. He sells the gold bars and buys himself the Medicine Stick, Gehenna, and the Battle Rifle, at which point he will sell the varmit rifle.

After that he goes with the Happy Trails Caravans to Utah, thinking he can persuade them to bring him all of the way to his home but things go bad in Zion Canyon where he has to fight for survival. Once while in Zion he finds out that his tribe was wiped out by the White Legs. Furious he swears vengeance against the Legion and decides to side with House.

He helps the Follower's of the Apocalypse any way he can. He sees them as peaceful saviors of the wasteland, they do their job better than he can. He feels pity and compation for everybody he comes across in the Mojave until he goes to Big MT.

When his brain is removed so are his morals and conscious, he no longer feels emotional towards the poor or the exploited in the Mojave.

At the end of OWB he kills the Think Tank and does not take his brain back. He goes back to the Mojave as a darker, crueler version of himself.

He butchers the Fiends on his return and helps the NCR out where ever he feels they belong. He recuits Boone as a companion and stops the Omertas plan at attacking the Strip during the Second Battle for Hoover Dam and breaks the Great Khans away from being allied with the Legion. He kills the deathclaws of Quarry Junction and slaughters Cottonwood Cove, including the slaves, losing himself in battle. He mercifully kills those who have been crucified.

When he did the quest Bye, Bye, Love he saw the humanity Carlitos and Joana had that he lacked. Their happiness that he lost in Big MT. He returned to Big MT and replaced his brain. Although he did not have as many emotions or compation as before he still had some.

As the Second Battle gets closer he gets a message from Ulysses and goes to the Divide.

When he finally comes face to face with Ulysses he convinces him to not fight, that they are one and the same. The Courier and Ulysses hail from tribes that Caesar's Legion has wiped out, with them being the only survivors. They both have some dfark backgrounds and both care for what happens to humanity in the near and distant future. The Courier then nukes Caesar's Legion, although he dislikes the NCR he does not feel that they deserve to be nuked.

When he gets back he fights the Second Battle for Hoover Dam, convincing Legate Lanius to retreat and also convinces General Oliver to stand down. He allows House to rule and becomes his servant, doing all of the physical things while House does all of the thinking and planning.

If you have any other suggestions on what I should do please tell me below.

Awesome Sebor, awesome!

Sebor said that he was just bored, but still..

I can't write anything myself, because I haven't got the game yet, (I'm getting it on Monday.) but I will tell you about when I'm done (which will take a while...)

Well i remeber making a 5 in everything (S.P.E.C.I.A.L.) character; tagging guns, speech and survival and helping house
I also remeber being nearly killed by a baby deathclaw and wasting about 100 5.56mm on its head from my varmint rifle and about 15 dynamite sticks on it! It was awesome though and taught me to respect those things
I also helped the powder gangers cause they seemed like an advantage for a newbie like myself.

it was kinda original, my character was reflecting my image, and my ideologies. sided with the NCR, and tried to be normal with all people. that's all.

First character?

Energy Weapons.
Legion.

Been more than a year since I played it, I don't remember. :/

I do remember my first combat though.
I wanted to go to Vegas straight away and went up to the Yangtzee Memorial and then headed north into the radscorpion gulch.
Well, ended up with me screaming and laughing like crazy while trying to escape two dozen radscorpions relentlessly hunting me.

Other than that it's just been too damn long, my SPECIAL, my skills, my traits, I don't remember any of it.
I do remember small things though.
Like shooting up entire Tops, attacking Jacobstown, killing every NCR I could find and getting violated by Cazador's prior to their nerf patch.

Main memories so far are walking towards Nipton and being jumped on by about 9 Giant Ants. Then being jumped on by 2 waves of 4 Viper raiders.

?n my first play,? think this game was a life simulation.Because graphics realistic, very casual speeches,we are not a hero and we need water, bed, gun, food.

I played game for hours.And my first enemy NCR,then Legion,then Mr.House.

I don't remember much from that night. I remember drinking heavily and standing in line for the midnight release. When I got home (my brother was driving) I blacked out. I played for a good hour or so though. I ended up calling my wife a [censored] and passing out on the couch. I deleted my save the next day and started fresh.

Only used guns (was about 75 or so) had speech at 100, and beasting around t51b armor first chance i got. First death was getting attacked by a alot of cazadors with only a 9mm pistol by burned camp or something. I was a goody two shoes most of the game though, felt like i got better rewards overall for being good. Tried being on ncr but ended with yes man, and somehow i think yes man was better because I ruled vegas. B)

Well let's see here.

Every time I get my hands on an RPG, I always play a serious playthrough with a generic "hero" character who's name I leave as the default name (Courier). This I call the 'scouting' playthrough (I don't really, but I will now) to get a sense of the game to where I can start role playing more seriously.
With New Vegas, I decided the 'good guys' faction would be NCR (only to learn later, this isn't necessarily true). From what I was left expecting after Fallout 3 I was blown away. I tagged Guns, Lockpicking, and Repair like I did with my 'hero' character in Fallout 3, except with Small Guns.

So yeah, extremely boring compared to my later characters. I did decide to have a whiskey addiction after meeting Cass, though. That added to the role.

I feel so special that somebody was inspired by me!

Now I'm most of the way through my second character for the Ultimate Edition (had one for normal NV a year ago before I sold it. House supporter who used all sorts of weaponry) who is an Energy Weapons only Indie character who has befriended every Independant faction but is disliked by the NCR (Smiling Troublemaker) and the Legion (Vilitified).

Oh, too long ago, can't remember much.

First character was guns....I had no idea what I was doing (hadn't played any Fallout prior), so I ran around like a goober, flapped my arms, shot some guns, explored, ran away from baddies. Then I started over. Repeat two or three times as I tried to figure out how I wanted to play the game (difficulty setting, starting stats, etc) as I slowly figured out how the game was set up/worked. Eventually I reached Novac with one character and that was the one I stuck with for my first entire run.

I'd say it was mostly for fun...I spent far more time exploring and sticking my nose everywhere than questing/progressing plot for a long long time.

Fess up, you spent most of that time at some remote oasis, rubbing tanning oil into Boone's old war wounds...

First time through was for fun until I met Mr. House and Yes Man. I'm a fan of both actors who played their voices, and it became a touching moment when I chose one over the other. I don't relish making that choice again.

I did have a blast coming across the F2 easter eggs.

My first time through New Vegas, I spent a lot of time screaming obscenities and punching my wall in anger. Nothing new.

Playing a new game is kind of a catch-22 for me: I can't enjoy it until I beat it for the first time, and I also can't derive (any) enjoyment by rushing through to the end.

That's reaching all I can remember about my first playthrough is that sided with NCR, was the shortest playthrough out of all the others, and my first character severed as a template for most of my characters.

Wow, well, let's see here. I just finished my first play through of Fallout New Vegas. Before that I've played Fallout 3 and I wasn't sure what to expect from NV. I sort of pictured Cowboys and Wild West LOL

So, I wake up in Doc Mitchell's house and my head is hurting like crazy. The last thing I remember is a guy in a checkered coat and a gun.

Going through the birth scene in Fallout 3, I was wondering how NV would start. I love it. The way you create your character and set your Skills and S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats. It's very smooth and feels very natural. (Ok, have to remember this is the GENERAL section, so no spoilers... LOL)

Once I stepped out of the house and onto the cracked pavement of Goodsprings, I knew yet another brilliant and dangerous adventure awaited me. I took a sip from my trusty Vault 13 Canteen, to wash away the dust and find some relief from the burning heat, while I surveyed my surroundings.

New Vegas is a game that not only plunges you into an exiting journey, but it also offers you different paths you can take. Mind your actions, because they all have consequences, and that's what really got me hooked on this game. I went with House this time, but I wasn't really happy with it.

The DLCs are amazing and are inter-connected in such a way that it seems so natural. I was rather surprised and astounded when I played through the first DLC Lonesome Road and found other DLCs being mentioned. I was delighted! Speaking of Lonesome Road - it was a difficult journey and it's burned into my memory forever. Amazing story!

Alice was immediately drawn to the NCR, because for her they represented courage and order and honor. Yet, at the end, House convinced her that the NCR was weak and that autonomy was the answer to restoring order. She trusted House and she hoped that the Wasteland will thrive, under his diligent leadership.

Now, I'm on my 2nd play through and I will remedy and change some of the choices I've made the first time around! I am looking forward to yet another amazing journey! Cat McClaw's allegiance is to herself. She will not go out of her way to hurt others, no, she rather finds a peaceful solution to diffuse conflict. For now, she is only vilified by the Powder Gangers (Gangsters, Gangers, same difference LOL). We'll see where her road might take her!

Btw. love all the DLCs, well maybe not so much Dead Money... but omg Zion is beautiful! :D and OWB is hillarious! :D

I remember when I first reached Nipton and talked to Vulpes, he said something along the lines of "well, if you disagree with our methods, feel free to attack us" and I was like, "okay", and a few minutes later I was sifting through their dead bodies for ammo.

My 1st character only lasted 10 hours at the most. The Reputation system was killing my character at 1st. She had a strong hatred of the NCR, yet with the bad reputation, I really couldn't use the character in Vegas. My 3rd Character I would consider my 1st playthrough, she got 40 hours in before I accidently deleted her but I finished up the Main Quest and did a number of sidequests, I probably had another 15-20 hours before I would've retired the character.

I'm still playing my first character, Dal Larson, and I have not died once yet. I'm too badass at this point to die, but at the beginning there were a lot of running and hiding to avoid death. I'm currently heading to Ceasar who wants to talk, but one of his men tried to kill me on the way so I think talking's out of the question now. I can't remember all my stats but the only 2 that matter, 'cause they've kept me alive, are my guns and medicine. Those are the only 2 I've built all the way up and I have the good accuracy with rifles and pistols, the one that makes me reload and shoot fast. I don't see me dying (hopefully) but if I do I will stop playing because I hate dying. I'm also currently playing Fallout 3 (somewhere in the breaking steel dlc story) with an undefeated character as well, named Kevin Lee. I'm playing both games as if they are both currently happening at the same time in Vegas and DC.

By the way, Bethesda had really bad marketing for these games (which are now my favorite games ever) because I saw the commercials and looked them up on youtube a long ass time ago and thought nothing of them. I went on a limb and bought them and I'm really glad I did.

Same here! Even though my character was mostly peaceful with high charisma and high speech.

I loved my first playthrough. Trying to talk everyone out of a fight. Didn't find the Terrifying Presence perk to be of any use to be honest.

Return to Fallout: New Vegas
