Or you could use http://www.silgrad.com/oblivion/rangen/ which is actually lore-friendly and appropriate for your TES race and gender.

Nice link!!

If anyone needs to invent their own name, just remember: Imperial -> Latin
Breton -> French
Nord -> German
Redguard -> sorta English
Bosmer -> sorta Tolkien-talk
Orc -> typical orcish ("grunth, uh, ugh, ghu" sounds)

Which reminds me, since I'm italian I should probably go for an imperial race's character. :P

When you put it like that it looks like "Latin Breton", "French Nord", "German Redguard", etc.

Refer to the "nice link" and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Names for name ideas. I use both a lot, except for when my character is a Breton. I always give my Bretons Celtic names, while most TES-names seem French.

Nah, I tried 5 ranger names: Tom, Robin, Will, Cole, John.
Don't think I'll be naming my ranger anything like that.

And if you're male, your surname will begin as "gro-" but if you're female it will begin as "gra-," and that your surname is also your parents name. ^_^

I've been using http://ebon.pyorre.net/ for years.

An intro from the help file;
In role-playing games, authentic atmosphere is a sum of many things. Regional customs, garments, architecture and names are all among things that add to a fullfilling gaming experience. Unfortunately, more often than not, every person the player characters encounter in a fantasy game has its name lifted from a popular novel, or, even worse, the calendar.

Everchanging Book of Names (a.k.a. EBoN) is a shareware random name generator for 32-bit Microsoft Windows systems. Originally written to be a game master aid, it has since proven its usefulness in various situations other than role-playing, such as naming fabrics, cats and miniature horses. Its highly sophisticated algorithm ensures that most of the names generated by it are readily usable. Moreover, the wide selection of name sets (called chapters) ensure that the names are truly unique and come in different flavors.

The software is written and copyright ? 1997-2002 by Sami Py?rre. Its latest version, along with an ever-increasing number of additional chapters, can always be downloaded from the official EBoN page:

Free chapters:

Westron
Viking
Arthurian
Black Speech
Finnish (yeah, the author is Finnish :P)
Latin
Adunaic
Khuzdul
Sindarin
Valarin
Quenya
Midnight

The Argonian name generator stinks. Where's the Big-Huge-Arm and Runs-In-Circles type names?

Bretons are French, oh god.

I always thought Nord, would be Russian, or Swedish, Dansih, or kind of a combination of all those languages including others from the northern pennisula thing in Europe (dont really know what it is called.)

And what do you mean ny Tolkien talk, and what about all the other races?

There's just one thing - why are there no surnames for the Nords? :(

Can't-Be-Arsed is my personal favourite. He was a lazy argonian who outright refused to do any work at all, I never got very far on him...

When naming a Nord all you really need to do is look at tyoical Viking names or modern Norwegian names. Then again, this is a fantasy game and I imagine surnames such as "Bloodaxe" or "Mountainhammer" (The last one is a direct translation of the name of my home town :P ) would be used by some, I rarely actually play Nords just because they feel too familiar to be as fun as the other more exotic races (Dunmer :wub: )

It could be because the people the Nords are based on used surnames like Honmundson instead of a familyname. I could be wrong though.
