Your honest rating of Fallout 4

Solid 8/10

Great world building, great graphics (for a sandbox game, a lot of folks seem to forget how important factor that is) combat and design this game is great.

The dialogue system tho in concept nice fell a bit flat on the execution, scrap the whole move while talking gimmick and use something else then 4 buttons and you suddenly have a lot more dialogue options to put on the wheel. Quests could also need a tad bit more variation.

Overall a fun game, nice to see Beth stepping out of the shadows of the old games and trying to make the franchise there own.

Thats nice dear. Game stillgets a 9 since I'm having a blast and already explained why. Other people's opinions on a forum don't change how I feel when actually changing the game.

Same here, certain "special" individuals seemed hellbent on spoiling the game and forcing their opinions down peoples throats.

Telling us not to pre-order it will be a bad game, guaranteed! Telling us its still a bad game after the release despite what the reviews say.

I put out an early steam review and got people messaging me telling me I was flat out wrong, an idiot, and clearly bribed by Bethesda for giving it a thumbs up.

For me its a 9/10, I'm enjoying it much more than I did Skyrim and New Vegas. I think its a great game, and no amount of keyboard warriors will change my mind on that.

Yep, I ordered my Pip Boy edition the very moment it became available on Amazon, and it was the first time I've pre-ordered a game in *years*. Couldn't be more thrilled with the decision, but then I knew that if the game was at least as good as Fallout 3, I'd be happy enough. There hasn't been a single Bethesda-*developed* game I haven't at least liked so far, so pre-ordering didn't seem very risky. The game has greatly exceeded my expectations in nearly every way. (I had no expectations it would be any more like Fallout 1 & 2 than Fallout 3 was, and I was hoping and praying it wouldn't be too much like FNV and would instead be more like Fallout 3.) I even enjoyed the main quest even though I thought trying to find a son was as stupid as trying to find a father.

I've recently started a second character and already she's coming across things my first character missed, despite having played the first character nearly 200 hours and still not close to done with her yet, and now it's difficult deciding which one of them I want to play at any given time.

I'm going with 8. The combat has been greatly improved and Power Armor actually feels like Power Armor now. The atmosphere is great, I especially like the fog. Replacing skills with perks was interesting. Crafting/weapon modding is nice. I haven't finished the main story yet, so I'm not going to comment the story.

Unfortunately, overall the game just doesn't feel like 4 years worth of work. There are the same old problems Bethesda's games have. Many features/areas/things could have been great, but the implementation was somewhat unpolished or they were added as an afterthought. Settlement defense was done in the worst way possible.

Talking with NPCs is much more lifelike than previously, but the removal of the unique dialogue-options is, well, unforgivable (yes, yes, it's only a game, but, you know).

I went with a 7/10. Things that killed a 9/10 rating for me were:

Bugs. Really, REALLY bad, game-breaking ones.

I hate the story, I hate this "family" I'm supposed to care about, and I hate that they copy pasta'd BioWare's dialogue wheel and made it worse in every. possible. way.

Voiced protagonist - not worth what we lost. I like the voice actress well enough but they sacrificed too much of the game's soul just to include this.

Also a waste of time to program in the ability to use common player names. We lost real dialogue and story choices just so that an idiot robot can say "Mr. Joe" and whatever hundred other names they wasted dev time programming in. Again, not worth it.

I don't like that they took out perks, but that ties into the things that we lose. Get rid of these perks that were a lot of fun, don't have to spend dev time on clever dialogue. Push an agenda while we're at it. Subtly, but an agenda nonetheless.

Overall, I *like* the game, but I don't *love* it like I did all other Fallout titles. It's trying too hard to be a BioWare game and it's lost a lot of Fallout soul.

Agreed, that was a big disappointment. When talking to Shaun at the end he said something along the lines of "to see if the Commonwealth would corrupt you" and I said out loud "how can it corrupt me I can't do anything corrupting" unless you count just random steeling people's stuff and killing everyone you come across for no reason as corruption.

And even if there were corrupting things, like founding a slaver settlement, becoming a mob boss and so on. Would Shaun or any other faction care? I very much doubt it. Beyond some mini dialogue changes, my "corruption" would be swept under the rug in order to advance the quest line.

I voted 5. With a modern engine and more polish (and a sane PC UI), I'd have given it a 7.

BTW, the poll average is 7.4 ATM.

+1

Voiced protagonist and the dialogue ruined what's otherwise a great game.

I could only give a 7. It's a playable and enjoyable but they downgraded themselves by attempting to streamline the attributes that made the Fallout series great: it's skill system, and the role play game aspects like the dialogue. In New Vegas we had many additions we took for granted as a continuation of Fallout development but instead they threw it away.

Bethesda got so excited about their dumb little vault smartphone game they apparently figured that's what we want to the real game lol

I gave it a 7. I played over 250 hours and just retired my first character and started a female character. I like the female voice actress more but I really don't know if I will bother with the main quest this time. Something is missing that's for sure.
