I do agree that the formula is getting old but I don't consider the formula a bad thing... What Bethesda does best is their formula and it's a very special one that I've honestly hadn't seen done by anyone else yet. There might be many open world games out there but nothing matches the creativity of Bethesda's worlds and I always enjoy exploring their worlds. Reading every note/book/terminal/etc and absorbing every little detail, especially the skeletons. Just by looking at the corpses themselves in one of Bethesda's Fallout games, you can piece together a small story about what might've happened...
And this is why I love their games a lot. It's the worlds they make that just doesn't seem to be correctly done by anyone else, as far as I know.
Here's the great thing with their forumla though, it's hard to really repeat. Every game world they work on are different from one another... Yes the formula is similar but there is just so much new content in each of their games to explore and discover. It isn't like a FPS series where the formula and content are way too similar between each that they get old and boring quickly...
Then again, just my two cents.
The guy who gave1 has right to be here.I understand him,he must be rally rally dissapoint in Fallout 4. He expected much more much better . Hell, i did expect better quests , spooky vaults ,tweested experiments . I exppected some crazy cult in Salem , but nothing. They wasted perfect opportunity to make such a quest/location.
Voted 5. Solid in some things but a dissapointment as a RPG and the fourth part of the series.
8/10
i wasn't expecting much at all since i thought skyrim was extremely underwhelming, but fallout 4 is right up there with morrowind for me. i'm having tons of fun despite the flaws, but i really thought it would be a lot bigger than this.
I'd rate it an 8 myself. I've been quite pleased with it though I do wish that they had borrowed more aspects from Obsidian's style with NV. I think the game's biggest flaw is wasted potential.
Well, you probably won't like my mods, you might just want to skip them.
I gave it an extra point because its single player only, unlike almost every other game.
Not voting because I HATE the number rating system. My rating is thus, it is a good, entertaining game.
I thought nonplayer characters who went around jabbering rubbish was a requisite part of any Bethesda game!?

So you really, really, really like killing stuff, and you really like the Silver Shroud quest(who doesn't?) but most of the other things you say either imo don't matter one bit for a RPG, and I seriously question Variety in ways to play. What I mean is, regardless of your build, the game is going to play out the same, with the only difference being possibly how you kill. It will be semi auto, fully auto, pistols, explosives(or if you get high enough level, any of the above). Other than that, the game will play out exactly the same, because actual variation in the game world, with quests and interactions, is extremely limited. But hey, you can play as a sarcastic guy, to get one line of funny dialogue as a quest works out exactly the same way.
You got some good games on this here list. I think I know why you like FO 4 so much, because story is probably extremely low on your scale of important things(hell you rank FO 3 a 9 and I would rather eat a bucket of maggots than ever play that game again). Got some shooters and a bunch of strategy games. Jagged Alliance a personal favorite of mine(which is why I long for a Fallout Tactics 2, JA and FOT are best squad strat games ever, imo). I question knocking good old Panzer General 2 down because of being linear, I mean, it is a chronologically ordered WW 2 strategy game, it is kinda supposed to be linear. Panzer General 3D is pretty fun, too(even though it is basically a prettier PG 2). Haven't played those games in years though.
8
The reason I didn't go an 8 or 10 was because there isn't anything innovative or really unique about the game. I think the game is great but I tried to rate it objectively and not on how I feel about the game.
I would recommend the game to anyone and I really enjoy playing so don't take 8 as a bad score. 10 for me is an almost impossible thing, a 10 really has to be something special and as great as the game is, it isn't a diamond.
Well, when I say PZ2 is "linear" I don't mean the overall structure of the missions or the way they fit together. Rather, the way battles unfold. There are certain tactics, that are "so good" it is almost like the game is designed to make those very specific tactics "right" and other ones "wrong." You can still complete the missions even if you deviate from those specific sequences of actions (move recce 4 west, 3 south -> reveal enemy formation; move arty up and bombard; move hvy armor up, etc., etc.)
Yeah, I'm more a strategy gamer than anything. I enjoy anolyzing the permutations and organizing the stuff. A bit of story to me is like icing on the cake. Enough story to give me an excuse is probably all I need This is probably why I still haven't managed to finish Baldur's Gate TuTu . . .
I find myself agreeing with a lot of the critiques of the game. Even so, I don't think I could bring myself to lower my rating from 9 to 8. Despite its flaws (and some of them annoy the hell out of me, for example the weird things that happen in the settlment/settler dynamics, defending settlements, etc.) the game is just so good. Cannot remember the last time I didn't start to get a bit singed on a game until I hit ~300 hours of play.
i will move Kotor for Galaxies. Man T.T is sad me sooo much that first Kotor games are not canon anymore for SW lore, and second that we never got a KoTor3
4/10
Full of bugs, including game breaking ones, framerate issues in cities, and its a shooter with rpg elements.
9/10. It's not perfect, it does crash sometimes and that blows a little but if you save as much as i do you don't tend to loose much. There are some glitchy bits but personally i find it kinda adds to the charm, because some of my favourite moments in 3 were from Glitchy Deathclaw heads or idiot raiders jumping in and out of the ground. I waited 5 years between playing 3 and 4 and it was worth the wait, it's exceeded my expectations. I love the new building aspect with the settlements, i love that the companions interact more with you. The character customisation with their appearance has come along miles, my character actually looks hot in 4, it was a push to achieve that in 3 or New Vegas. The game is absolutely stunning and i do like that there is more colour in it, there was a dusty greeny grey to the look of the last ones so the colours in 4 are actually a really nice touch IMO. Game of the Year, no doubt in my eyes.
9.
Its is a great game that is a must play for modern RPG fans, definitive, as was and still is Skyrim.
It has flaws: Companion AI at times, Gun play is much improved, but still no Halo, minor glitches that the player can fix or overcome, dialogue that ropes you along.
But it also has outstanding pro's that cannot be over looked: the loot system (which is a HUGE boon to me...I'm a bit OCD), the Workshop function, the weapons and gear building, the pacing, the level progression (if you can manage a little self composure for once in your life), the improved gunplay, the respawning of enemies (keep things interesting), the music. The world.
Overall, the game gracefully succeeds at what it is supposed to do and makes huge and unexpected improvements and addittions to the Loot-and-Stash FPS RPG realm.
6/10.
Half-assed PC port. Don't bother introducing new graphics options if you're not going to optimize it properly.
8 out of 10 for me, it's a good game, but not great at the minute, i've stopped playing recently, a little bit of boredom has crept in, this didn't happen for me with Skyrim or New Vegas for a long time after release.
