Your Ideal Companion

I have thought it would be cool to befriend a drug crazed raider. Mainly because it would be nice to actually be able to do something besides just shoot them. Maybe find them all beat up, heal them, work with them through their addictions, give them a reason for living, etc., I think the background could be really interesting. As far as helpful skills, melee and the ability to make drugs from raw materials, have a lot of survival lore, etc.

Raiders would probably be attracted to more dominant forces than the ones they currently work for too. Maybe a karma tool too? Force their labor by controlling their access to drugs. You pay them in the occasional chem rather than wages. Or be the wasteland saint and redeem their tortured souls, and make them do-gooders like your self

My ideal companion?

That'd be this little lady right here.

I Would really like to the return of one of the Cassidy Family members. But tbh i just want my companions to have their own goals and be worth taking into combat. Also does anyone know if the (1 humanoid, and one non human) party is still a thing?

Someone to give backstory on the setting or a particular faction. Maybe someone with a unique view to give a new perspective to the wasteland. Also a follower that comments on places you go and people you see. A mod i loved in fallout newvegas was willow, that character never shut up, although i could see how that would turn people off of companions

If by more articulate, you mean he actually speaks intelligible words, then I can get behind this idea! I hated the beep boop beeps all the time. The end-scene of Lonesome Road even had a longish segment with him beeping and I had no subtitles to tell me what the hell he was saying. Sometimes that's amusing ---- the non-vocal guy in Old World Blues, for example ---- where you can sort of ~infer~ based on your dialog choices what he had said without explicitly knowing exactly what was said. But for a Companion, please please please let it speak properly!

I hated using non-humanoid-speaking companions in SWTOR for this reason --- wookiee or droid or Selkath or whatever may be all fun to have around, but when I have to constantly check the chat log to see what he said, it detracts from the game. Much rather have a Mon Cal that speaks so I can understand him.

This would be super cool. To have a companion not just for storage space and moar firepower. If they had a similar skillset and maybe a useful perk or two that would compliment your own in the wasteland, along with a tragic story of course, I might actually consider finally using companions in a Beth game.

I always feels like they're there to save you, rather than the other way around. To have a companion that would run and duck for cover when combat breaks out would be a nice change.

Indeed, it would be cool if Eyebot companion could use built in radio to speak, akain to Bumblebee form the first Transformers movie.

I can't say that there is any particular characteristic that I would want in a companion. I just want a character that's fully fleshed out and feels like a good TV quality wingman. Like Robert Hawkins in Jericho, Kurdy in Jermiah, Glenn from The Walking Dead, or any of the original cast from Sliders. I understand that is not realistic, but I just want my companions to be able to speak on events going on in the Wasteland and not just on specific things related to them. That's one of the things I remembered from KOTOR1 and the Mass Effect series. That they actually were apart of the dialogue sequences in the game talking about current events instead of just stuff related to their back story.

I disagree. Fawkes is love, Fawkes is life. And Star Paladin Cross could eat up damage and keep em' distracted. On the New Vegas side, Boone could slay some stuff with a rifle, Veronica could tear stuff up with her hammer I gave her, and ED-E could tear things up thanks to the Followers.
