Your Ideal Companion

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 3:59 am

I'm curious as to what everyone would say would be their ideal companion... If you want, list several who would fit the bill.

Now what I mean is what would be the most functional, developed, and creative companion for you in Fallout 4. Do you want a Super Mutant sniper (imagine it for a second) with a big heart who loves animals? Or do you prefer the ruthless killer who's aggression outweighs his since in that he might cause trouble with characters you might have a chance to resolve your situation peacefully (doubt we'd see that, but were talking theoretically.)

Me, I generally like to play as a big, heavily armored monster on my first playthrough who favors a peaceful resolution. So I'm saying I;m heavily armed, smart, and a great talker. So what do I want to compliment that?

I want a big, loyal, killer. I also prefer guns like the plasma rifle that do a crap ton of damage but it takes a second to get wound up. I have found myself using Veronica in New Vegas because she can crush heads and isn't such a big wide body like Lucy. This time around I could see my primary companion being Preston Garvey himself. Everything about his get up makes me like him. From his gun, his apparent need to protect the wreak, and of course him being the first real human we see our PC talking to.

My ideal would be a Brotherhood of Steel baddy with an even bigger gun or super sledge. The problem: We don't know how power armor functions exactly, so I'd say its much to early to say if we will see power armored companions.

A kind hearted medic who hangs back providing ranged support while I wade into groups of enemies and then patches me up afterwards. Bonus points if romanciable, double bonus points if it is the spouse as that would make her fully customizable from an aesthetics stand point.

I don't care about the specifics of the character. I just want them to have their own goals, tell you when they disagree with you or have a perspective on something. I want them to be different from each other and not be completely slavish. If they don't like what my character is doing, I want them to try and kill him or leave him. I also want characters that take a while to understand. Like one that appears good at first but slowly sabotages everything you do. Or one that appears evil but has a chance to develop. Make them more than just an ally NPC that helps you shoot stuff.

I'd like a companion that has no dialog and only attacks when I do.

You'll probably love Dogmeat, then.

I'd like a companion with a good back story and wit, like Cass, Somah, or Dean (without the easily bruised ego). I'd also like them to have good stealth skills (Piper sounds like she might be like that) and possibly an decent ability (if those are returning from New Vegas) like ED-E.

  • has a character. Meaning a background, interests, preferences, dislikes, goals.
  • sarcastic/witty, poking fun at the protagonists decisions
  • switches to minimal comments in combat/stealth
  • has defined limitations - no suicidal following no matter what (you want to explore that deathclaw nest at right after starting the game? i'll wait out here.)
  • does some banter with other important NPCs - complete with personal likes/dislikes based on background/faction/charisma/story (e.g. flirting with some, discouraging the player from shopping at certain vendors because of reasons etc.)
  • occasionally leads the player - e.g. convinces the protagonist to visit favorite store/bar, meet some good ol' acquaintance, show some hidden area or simply a nice lookout point
  • interacts with other followers and has personal preferences/dislikes among them
  • occasional/rare comments on protagonists and own successes and failings ("Did you see me shoot that guy?", "Wow, that's like what - 5 broken lockspicks now. Want me to try?")
  • long personal storyline quests with diverging outcomes so replays can offer new experiences

Edit:

  • not invincible - but hardy enough to survive with some forethought

Wasteland Don Quixote. I could do it with a mod, but Bethesda could do it with a voiced protagonist. I would totally be his squire.

I'm usually more of loner in these games anyway, but I kind of like the idea of having an android follower. Maybe have the option to "free" him of his programming or completely taking away his free thought, thus making him our synthetic manservant for keeps. That'd be a fun little side quest I think.

That said, I'll probably stick to Codsworth. From what I've seen, I'm going to like him.

I will say, if Piper really is a spunky, muckraking journalist type of character, I'm going to romance the crap out of her.

the ideal companion

umm since i played the new vegas lonesomeroad dlc my favorite aways been ED-E and i would love to see a return and i am pretty sure somebody will make a follower mod for him

he nevers complain always following at a dicrete distance , tho you need to tell him to stop following you when you go into stealth mode

carries your equipmet without complaining

and warns you for earby danger with a series of beeps

he doesn't poop all over the place like that stupid dog and doesn t look stupid at you when your character does something stupid

No more adventuring and slaying raiders for me when we meet again out in the wastes :P

Except to maybe spin up the 'ol power armor course.

Give me a sanrky talking gun that spews more profanities than appropriate. Like the Boganella from Borderlands the Pre-Sequel and I'll be happy. I like talking guns.

Ill be happy with a Mr Handy/Gutsy/ Protecteron that I can call my buddy. Complete with inappropriate American propaganda Dialogue.

Someone I can tinker with and customise.

Cass was perfect.
Good-hearted but has her share of demons. Even her background is pretty simple: a down-on-her-luck caravaner.

I tend to use Veronica more though because she fits my playstyle.
Now if only Cass could use stronger weapons...

I dislike it when companions are overdone.

There was this companion in the Dragonfall RPG who was like: "physically and sixually abused by dad, witnesses dad kill mom, joins a cult, gets sixually abused by cult leader, helped cult leader recruit more women, had six with women to please cult leader, runs away, gets so many implants that she's practically half-machine, goes back to kill cult leader, still wishes she could kill dad." <<< I was reading her storyline and Holy Sht. Hasn't she gone through enough already?

This sums up what I would like to see in the human companions.

I really got attached to ED-E in Lonesome Road, so a companion like him. As for Codsworth, I hope we can turn him into a personal medic. Actually, that would be nice to have in human companion/medic as well.

Glory was never sixually abused by her dad just fyi [at least I'm like 98% she wasn't] and she killed her mom.

The cult was functionally a satanic cult also and she implies that she had to work as a six worker after her father beat her and threw her out of the house. And she got all that chrome cuz she needed to sort of kill her magic so that she wasn't controllable by satan no more.

It's somewhat overwrought and cliche-filled but I didn't actually dislike it.

One that's shallow enough to ignore without feeling that you're missing out on a decent chunk of "content", when I don't use it at all. :whistling:

I want a smart follower with good mid to long-ranged skills and doesn't get in my way.
Someone smart enough to stay on the flank of my enemy and fire from a reasonable distance
while still remaining accessible, as opposed to either getting in front of me (blocking my shot) or standing directly behind me.
Probably someone with a semi-automatic or burst fire assault rifle and some kind of bat or sword for melee.
Decent health so I'm not babysitting.
