Your MMORPG Resume. What are you bringing with you to ESO?

Post » Fri Mar 14, 2014 3:58 am

What is your MMORPG background? How long have you been playing MMOs? What MMOs have you played? What did you do? Raid? PVP? Any special accomplishments? How about guild and personal experience? MMOs aren't all about killing and looting things, have you lead a guild, been an officer? Any other tid bits of your MMO life that you care to share? What are you really bringing with you into ESO?

My own gaming history: I first heard about MMOs from a neighbor. I came over his house one day and saw him playing a game unlike anything I had ever seen. It was UO and that was in 1997. I have been playing MMOs since then. In those 17 years I have experienced more than I can ever post on here. I could list probably 2 dozen MMOs that I have played if I really tried but the major ones are UO,EQ,EQ2,DAOC,Neocron,AC,AC2,Wow,GW,SWG,SWTOR,DND,LOTR,AO, many many more..I have ALOT of experience in raiding guilds starting from EQ doing 60 man raids with no voice chat to running down the Lich King in wow. Lich King was the last bit of raiding I have done. Been waiting for ESO since then. I tend to be a tank and master craftsman of some sort. Ive lead guilds on various mmos, been officer in most of the guilds Ive been in and also been a wallflower in others. That's enough for now post to long.

Oh I have also been crowned King, on Asherons Call for several months during its early days. That was cool :P King Kurge. I will be trying my hardest to earn Emperor on ESO.

My first MMOs were back in the BBS days. 300 baud cradle modem was epic hardware. I'd list all of the online games I've played, but the wall of text would be painful.

Does it really matter? I see this as a bragging rights post.

Played a lot of MMO's, very few have kept me for longer than a month, I played for WoW for 7+ years, Swtor for 3 months, I've also played Rift/Eve Online/AoC/STO/Lotro and Planetside 2.

WoW kept me playing because I was part of the same guild since vanilla days, that was the only reason I stayed through Wotlk onwards (until I had enough in MoP and deleted everything and quit fir good).

The only other MMO I have enjoyed since then is Eve Online.

So I will be bringing a decent amount of MMO experience into TESO.

My gosh. Here goes nothing.

I started with Myth of Soma back in 2002. That game was pretty hardcoe and took forever to download with the laughable internet speeds we had back then. They don't make games like that anymore; where you could kill anyone, but in turn you'd probably get killed by guards on your next return to town. Truely unforgiving.

My next unforgiving title was FFXI back in 2004. I played this game for many years and kept going back to it. I never lead a linkshell in FFXI, but it was my first real taste of raiding. I said raiding; all I really ever did was charge up my Chi-Blast for ten minutes.. damn Monks. Fun times though, and they'll stay with me forever.

Moved onto World of Warcraft next; and like most people who played it from launch, I stayed for a long time. I was late to the raiding in World of Warcraft and didn't really pick up serious raiding until the Burning Crusades; where I went on to do Karazhan all the way through to the Black Temple, then onward to Icecrown Citadel in Wrath of the Lich King. I played Cataclysm for a while then quit shortly after. I came back for Mists of Pandaria, but again, quit shortly after. For me at least the World of Warcraft magic has finally dissipated. I still have some of my fondest MMO memories there though.

Inbetween FFXI and during my time playing World of Warcraft I did sample many other MMO; such as City of Heroes, Archage, Lineage, Runescape, Ultima Online, Everquest, Champions Online, Guild Wars, Secret World, Neverwinter, Guild Wars 2, Star Wars Galaxies, Age of Conan, Eve Online, Phantasy Star Universe, Lord of the Rings Online, Star Wars the Old Republic, Planetside 2, APB and Rift. I'm probably missing some; but they were mostly underwhelming. Some lasted a couple of weeks; others less.

I've recently stopped playing FFXIV: A Realm Reborn, which wasn't bad to be fair. I met some nice people there and we managed to work our way through a lot of the content.. actually all of the content other than Twintania; the last raid boss available.

I'm now patiently (well not so patiently) awaiting the MMO I hope to settle in. I have high hopes for Elder Scrolls Online; not simply because it's the next MMO out there, but because I'm a huge fan of the series; more so than any previous franchise; and they seem to be onto a winning formula.. but only time will tell.

Guilds have also been a major factor for e in how long I play a MMO. The best guilds I have been in were EQ and WOW, and I played both of those games for 5+ years each. The people you surround yourself with are probably the biggest part of any MMO.

Very much so, playing a game with friends and people you get along with makes a game much more fun, even if you aren't actually enjoying the content itself, surprisingly enough

This isn't about bragging rights at all, its a simple chat about what kinds of players are going to be present ingame. Theres a huge thread on here about peoples personal lives....but who gives a crap about that. I want to know about your gaming life, that's what matters here.
