Since Morrowind, the only real trick up the thief's sleeve has been pickpocketing. I sincerely hope there is new skills and techniques for thieves to master!

It would be nice to have some realistic pickpocketing (bump and scoot) and non-lethal subduing methods (billy club to the head/tying up) and hopefully a dynamic climbing system! Thieves are part of the "big three" when it comes to RPGs : The Warrior, the Mage, and the Thief. It'd be nice to have some love shoved our way for a change. All the fancy sword tricks mean nothing to a guy who just wants to be a cutpurse.

I would like to see more options for thieves myself. I'm more of a warrior, but the ability to prey on travelers as a highwayman or knock out guards and such (as you mentioned) would be enough to make me reconsider my class.

I'd like that, I've always wanted the ability to walk into a store, hold a dagger to the storekeeps throat, and the storekeep giving you all the cash.

Getting people to give up their money through intimidation should be affected by your speechcraft.

I never pplay thieves but I agree with this, thievery in the time The Elder Scrolls is set in (the middle ages... with magic) has a cetain romantic appeal to it

You have visions of hooded and cloaked figures resting on windowsills in the night, surveying the area before traversing the rooftops, avoiding the guards and flickering patches of light whilst they made their way to the store they cased a few hours earlier

But in Oblivion you just kinda stand outside a shop door until noones looking, pick your way in, take eevrything and leave unquestioned

It would be nice to have guards watch you simply because you are sneaking around at night. And also, it would be great to be able to lose the guards somehow. In Oblivion it was like they put a tracking device on you in prison. Without invisibility spells, once that eye reticule was bright, it stayed bright until someone died.

MASKED ROBBERY. That'd be great! See a wealthy aristocratic npc walking alone, go up to him, have options to simply talk with the mask on or demand money. Then he'll call out his sneaky guards or whatever, you'll kill them, then kill the npc and take his money, and no one will be the wiser :) Unless guards see the crime, paralyze you, and rip off your mask.

It's a RPG, you guys better roleplay it (this is from a fellow thief). How could you smoothly loot something when you got to look though an inventory? Or do you want to just get something random like in Daggerfall where it was like a bump n run kind of thing?

i'd say illusion if its simply an illusion. if you actually morph yourself it'd be alteration. I'd rather have it be an illusion spell.

I agree completely, theives are kinda boring to play in Oblivion and Morrowind. I remember the first time I played Oblivion joining the theives guild I was like, "Oh cool with radiant AI maybe we'll have team heists of shops or something!" I was disappoint

yeah, they have the warrior, they have the mage, but all the thief can do is hide (poorly) and pick pocket (also poorly)

Genuine, lethal, dangerous traps that can more easily be detected and disarmed by those of a sneakier persuasion would add yet another layer of usefulness to the rogue. Chests, pressure plates, trapped doors, etc. All these would make anyone think twice before charging through a dungeon with an axe at full speed.
