Your Oblivion Memories

Post » Mon Oct 15, 2012 2:56 pm

So Oblivion has been released for 6 years, something I actually can't believe. When the game came out, I was still an actual kid, and this game evoked my imagination like no other. I had never played anything like it. The possibilities, the beautiful world, the storylines, it overwhelmed me.

I remember one of my fondest memories, the Ultimate Heist quest in the Thieves Guild. The pride I felt after I actually stole an Elder Scroll from the White Gold Tower itself was awesome, but nothing compared to how I felt at the end scene with the Count and Countess of Anvil. A great moment, for sure.

So, from your last 6 years of playing this fantastic game, please share your most memorable experiences.

Playing the Lost Spires mod after first installing it a few years ago (http://www.lostspires.com) and seeing all the cool runic stuff was among the most memorable experiences I had with Oblivion. Lost Spires really added alot of depth to the game and kept me interested all the way through. I actually filmed about 95% of my run through the mod using Fraps at the time while listening to old NES tracks through Winamp.

Aside from that, installing and playing through the Shivering Isles expansion was a very memorable experience the first time through. I felt like the quest had alot more put into it than the main quest of Oblivion. Also, fighting Jyggalag at the end of the quest was hard as Hell. I would pepper him with ranged spells from afar. But, he could run like an 18-wheeler and would keep catching up with me. I remember though the joy of pretty much becoming the ruler of the realm of madness. But, I also hated it at the same time because I was hungry for more adventuring and I didn't have internet access at the time I bought the expansion (was only for a brief time though). So, I couldn't easily download more mods to play.

I'll write some memories from my very 1st RP-playthrough which was in 2007. I haven't played the game afterwards since 2008 until January 2012 when I returned to Oblivion.
I wasn't aware of these forums at that time...my first character which I consider to be roleplayed was a Breton mage / warrior Amadee although he mostly developed as a warrior instead of mage. Anyway, some memories:

-how I read The Immortal blood for the very 1st time outside the Vilverin and got very scared - not only it was a book about vampires, there was also a garlic outisde a tent and I was afraid to sleep outside. Still I couldn't resist and spent a night there. When suddenly something woke me up, I was sure these must be vampires (mind at that time I didn't know if vampires even exist in a game or no!). Luckily I was in a sneak mode, so a man in blue robe didn't notice me. As it turned out, it was a simple conjurer.

-a message that my deeds were observed by forces unknown... :ermm: ...I looked around everywhere but couldn't find any witnesses but then I went to sleep and you know the story from here...

-I found a Mythic dawn robe and hood really cool and it was Amadee's favorite apparel for a very long time until he found out that he'll need some armor.

-wielding a cutlass in a computer game for the 1st time  probably the best memory because I collected cutlasses IRL for some time.

-OB was my 1st game where I could rent a room in an inn, so a feeling when I actually slept in an inn in a computer game was great.
