In your opinion, what is the best build?

Post » Thu Mar 27, 2014 9:51 am

So right now with my level 58 Dunmer, I have done almost everything there is to do in Skyrim...

  • Leader of the Thieves Guild
  • Leader of the Assassins
  • Leader of the Companions
  • Collected all Daedric artifacts
  • Killed all Dragon Priests
  • Killed an Ancient Dragon
  • Arch Mage at College of Winterhold
  • 100 Smithing, 100 handed, Archery, Sneak, and Block
  • Collected almost every unique item out there
  • Completed almost every quest out there - all there's left is the Dawnguard Vampire Quests

I'm sure I have done more, but I can't remember all of them...for I have spent almost 300 hours on this guy. It's hard to leave him, but I feel like once I finish Dawnguard I have to move on to someone new :(

So, I ask the people of the forum, what is your favorite build? I want to do something new and fun. I've already done sneak a thousand times, I tried magic once on legendary only wearing robes (it was pretty damn hard). I was thinking maybe a Khajit heavy armored warrior that uses Conjuration and restoration - Conjuration to conjure up Swords and Restoration to heal himself and others :) Other than this, I have no ideas :P

I love playing as an Archer who also uses her bow to kill enemies that are standing right in front of her.

The best build is the one you have the most fun playing.

Well not really worthy of any of the quest lines or factions, see Michi in my sig. Kynes Sacred Trials, Friending the Orcs, and killing bears for Temba Wide-Arm in Ivarstead are about the only things realistic for a hunter. Still, by far my favorite character. Most time is outdoors without load screens. I love the hunting. I make a living turning pelts into leather and leather into strips, then selling them in bulk to smithies. I loot Giants and their camps too. Lots of gold and pelts to supplement my income. Orcish arrows are expensive.

Been experimenting with using just muffle enchanted boots for stealth. I can sneak up behind anything without being in sneak mode, but if I get in their line of sight, I'm spotted. Pretty fun and realistic so far.

The most powerful defensive build that I've found, legitimately, is a one-handed, shielded, heavy armor user. Use potions to buff enchanting to buff potions until you have 32% fort enchanting and i think it's 120% fort smithing, could be higher... Put into atronach perk and magic resist perk, then enchant yourself with fortify heavy armor, one handed, magic defense, fire, shock, and frost resistance, then stand there and laugh at mages while you block arrows with your shield, advance, slice and kill. This is kind of a fortress build....

Best Build is probably a Stealth Witchhunter but any build can work out just as well. I personally love using Stealth and also Heavy Armor characters.

I think the craft build is the best build no need for skill when the craft can do it for you  but the build I am having fun with right now is my Pyroarcher build

You could make a Combat Archer. An archer who doesn't sneak around. You fight enemies with a bow in open combat even when they get into melee range. It is quite fun to dance around enemies skillfully along with well timed bow bashes.

Think Legolas in Lord of the Rings

Typically such a character can be complete with just 4 skills: Archery, Light Armor, Alchemy, and Smithing

You use Alchemy not just for healing but also for archery buff, defense boosts of various kinds, and also poisons. If you have Hearthfire you can grow (or hatch with the fish hatchery) most if not all the ingredients you need for your various recipes. There are some quite interesting concoctions you can make.

I would suggest a Nord for this build because their battle cry is great if you get overwhelmed by too many enemies getting close at once. They are also one of the taller races which gives them faster movement and higher jumps (The game bases movement speed and jump height off of a character's height)

I personally find it fun and refreshing to play such a simple yet potent character. I usually play as a sort of ranger or huntsman in touch with nature and the land.

Try something interesting like only using found items and found spell books. No more smithing your own arms and armor, no more buying spells or ingredients from vendors. No more buying arms and armor from vendors.

You can use it if you find it!

Makes searching every chest and dead body a little more meaningful.

I am playing one right now (not quite as extreme as described) where my Orc smith/poisoner is a bit of an outsider. He will not buy ingredients or smithing materials from anyone but the vendors at the orc strongholds. He will not buy spell tomes at all. He will not buy enchanted items, at all. The only enchantments he will put on any of his armor pieces is smithing or alchemy. He will use anything he finds, though. Same with weapons. He will use only enchanted weapons that he finds or is awarded after a quest. He will smith the carp out of everything, however. The only spell tomes he will use are the ones he finds. [I want to find Clairvoyance and Magelight so badly I can taste it, btw. :) -- lvl 27 atm] Makes for a much more satisfying dungeon diving experience. I really rejoice when I find that special spell tome, or enchanted item.

Heavy armored mages can hold their own, too. But magic just doesn't stand up damage-wise on legendary. on master, of course it works, if you do it right. but dual-casting twin dremora lords is about the best magic you can get for legendary.

Illusion, my friend... Illusion!

My favorite build was probably my Illusionist/Blademaster. Blades armor, illusion cost reduction, a blades sword in one hand and whatever spell I switch to after dual-casting frenzy at a couple of likely targets. They are all so busy fighting each other, I waltz right up behind them and get a kill cam blade running through their chests more often than not! Very powerful feeling!!

Of course, Paralyze (alteration) has its fun uses too! Nothing like watching a paralyzed foe topple over!!

This doesn't seem like a bad idea, I always loved taking down enemies with the bow/crossbow. I play on Legendary so that might be a problem :P

A few good poisons are:

Deathbell + River Betty + an ingredient that has weakness to poison=Damage Health + Slow + Weakness to Poison (River betty adds a 2.5x multiplier to health damage in any poison containing it.)

Deathbell can be combined with salt piles and an ingredient with damage health for a weaker health damage potion that also slows enemies.

Imp Stool + ingredient with paralyze + ingredient with lingering health damage=Paralyze + health damage over time. A powerful poison I try to save for tight situations as it is kind of unfair to use all the time LOL!

Juniper Berries + an ingredient with health regen + an ingredient that boost archery= Archery damage boost + health regen potion (Great for when you face enemies that can't be poisoned.)

Wheat + Blue Mountain Flower= Restore health + fortify health potion.

There are many other concoctions you can use too. These are just a few of my common staples.

As far as playing on Legendary, your character usually needs only 200 stamina and then everything can be dumped into health. Smithing your own armor can allow you to reach the armor cap with light armor (armor cap is 567 if you have 4 pieces of armor on as there is a hidden +20 per armor piece) any higher armor rating does nothing. The cap caps it at 80% damage reduction.

Also, if you find it too hard on Legendary there is no shame in dropping the difficulty level. Difficulty level is all about providing a challenge to keep things interesting. All that matters is that the game provides enough challenge to be fun. Playing on legendary isn't mandatory. (FYI Sneak archery is pretty dang easy so that could skew your view of difficulty level)

llowing the inclusion of mods?

I just finished a holy paladin character. Shield, sword, restoration and heavy armour. Only did good quests and avoided questionable activities.

Check the skyrim blod for good builds.

Ill be downloaded trade routes soon and making a travelling merchant who has bodyguards to fight for him 馃槂

Xbox :P Paladin's are cool, it's one of my ideas to make a warrior Khajit who uses restoration. Doesn't steal and help people in every city :)
