Your own home

Can you get your own home like you could in Fallout 3?

I assume you can but would be great if you could own multiple or there were more than two options. I'd also think it would be great if you could purchase a home rather than be awarded it

well I doubt they remove such a roleplaying aspect, as for how many...I would guess at least 3

1 somewhere in New Vegas

1 at a NCR base

1 at a Legion base

but of course there could be more, like several of varied size in Vegas.

I'd hope that they include more than two options.

One thing that I love about FO3 is that you can essentially make anywhere your home. I usually have several base of operations in the wasteland...usually somewhere that has a) a workbench, b)storage options, and/or c) a matress. As long as it's easily accessible from a fast-travel perspective, it's as good as it needs to be to call home despite the lack of an ice-cold Nuka or my own bed. I prefer the power stations throughout the greater DC area for their convenience. I suspect that we'll find similar opportunities in New Vegas.

Except you will never own containers that were already owned by someone else. I think it should be that either all the containers are neutral, or the owned ones get transfered upon the owners death. Usually you would be able to find a place or two that had no container issues, but other places, like Dukov's, I always felt like an interloper. And, it was the place I always wanted to move into.

I loved the system in oblivion, where each town (Excluding Kvatch obviously) had its own house for sale, either through a quest or just through money, and then ontop of those, you could also use any faction houses that you were part of as a house and base of operations. I'd also pay for a house if it came out as DLC, as i had the Oblivion DLC and never once regretted it.

Houses just add to the roleplay for me, and i love having places to store all my gear and souvenirs.

I loved the house guild building quests in morrowind better than oblivion also. I would like to be able to do something like that in new vegas maybe start your own farm and have people work it for you so you would always have a constant source of food. Maybe even be able to have a well dug for you as well and sell water as income or just use it yourself.

According to the Fallout Wikia, "several" houses will be available. I'm thinking there will be three, and at least one of them will probably be exclusive based on your actions. It would be nice if you could have at least two at the same time.

One thing i did not like in Fallout 3 was the "You cannot sleep in an owned bed" message...

Well, how 'bout that... i jus' killed the owner... reckon i can sleep on the ol' mattrass now "You cannot sleep in an owned bed" ... well i'll be damned.

Just imagine all the locations you could call home if killing the owner would mean a status change of the environment. :tops:

I agree, that is totally LAME. Then again minefield, or whatever the name of that town really is has some decent houses to claim.

I'd appreciate an option to "claim dwelling". Maybe via Pip Boy, or a keyrack by the front door. Be able to upgrade it. Eg - High lockpick allows you to repair the locks, science / intelligence fixes alarms /cameras / turrets etc. Stores start seling furnature that you drop in. Loot lamps, globes, tvs etc. Always safe, personally yours.

Would be a neat idea, i would like a dlc with just the house and customization feature... someone said it would be cool to own a casino (put a few regulations on it, and it might not be a bad idea, it is new vegas after all.)

"Several", according to the Wikia. The home in the Lucky 38 Casino is the only one we've heard about so far.

I agree with you guys, it would be nice if we could claim any location as our own.

I have a question. If you kill a home owner and use that house to store your items, can they be stolen? I'm guessing they can't be stolen since, even after that person is killed, the game still considers it their home and none of the other NPCs should be allowed to go in there. This is something I never got around to experimenting with in Fallout 3. I stored all of my items in my Megaton house.

I never tried it, as i was not able to sleep at those locations, im sure the items will remain right where they are.

Me? I used the Megaton bathroom to store my items, c'mon... nobody really uses them.. right? (I wanted the sheriff's duster)

On PC it was easy. Install the Owned! mod. After killing the owner, property is transferred to you. Also, in later versions, you were able to buy up homes and stores to make a profit.

It would be nice if something similar is implemented in new vegas.

I always wished that you could buy containers or just pick them up. For example, those little crates in fallout 3. I also wished that when you purchased a item for your house, you could choose where to place that object (with restriction of course). I also wanted a fully customizable theme that you could have; you could buy a "theme kit" if you will, and from that theme kit you could go into a "customization mode" and have your character walking around (for more of a real effect vs. floating around) with the object until you reach a spot where you wish to place the object (object would not become a solid until you place it and solid objects act as barriers) (restrictions also included). Another nice touch would be outer decor, for example, flamingo lawn ornaments, X-mas lights, and barbecue area (i guess some of the decor wouldn't really work for some homes such as a pent house although the pent house could have a LARGE balcony that you could use to put those sort of things). Another addition i longed to have was a indoor or outdoor shooting range (many would consider this as a waste of ammo, but if the shooting range was to become an extension of the house, as in a separate room that loads up, then special rules could be applied to this room that would stop decay of weapon condition and give you unlimited ammo) (or the room could be a simulation room that gives you scenario options like fighting a hoard of behemoths or just simple target practice; this would be more enjoyable to players versus the shooting range and also allows new comers to to get a feel of the games FPS system as well as allowing people to "test drive" newly acquired guns; you could also buy new simulations from special vendors). Technically the simulation room is a more upscale and fancier version of the shooting range considering it also has the option to do the range, but provides far more enjoyment with different options then just sitting there with a gun shooting a bunch of plain targets. heh, maybe it can even be a simulator chair like in the DLC Operation Anchorage. Any way i know these wont be implemented into the game but maybe they could become mods, DlC's, or even used in the next game... never know.

I too enjoyed getting all the different houses,it was a little hard keeping track of where i put everything (armor, items, etc.). Too bad we couldn't rent 'em out or something; when they don't pay rent you could just waste the renters and take their items.

That's the beauty of mods :twirl: and if this isn't implemented in new vegas......it will be in a mod.
