Your Personal Favourite Mods

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 1:47 am

Since I have only filled about 150 slots for possible mods I figured I'd dive into the forums. Instead of just asking for recommended mods though I've decided to take a different direction and ask what your FAVOURITE mods are. These can be anything, and revolve around any part of the game (with the exception of nudity!) so why don't you dip into your fond memories and share them with us?

My personal favourite mods have proven to be;

MTC Wasteland Travellers because it just adds a whole new kind of life to the wastes. Thieves, slaves, lost folks... plus if you're acting the bastard that's all the more NPCs you can get away with killing.

GNR: More Where That Came From , simply because as much as I love the artistic choice of music to fit the games setting the actual playlist was pretty short and nobody wants to listen to the bloody Enclave all day.

Savage Wastelands 2.0 because... well, I like the idea of the end of the world pushing people back to the 'whack with stick' days instead of the mow down with SMG days.

Gee, I wonder why

Anyway, If I had to pick something I can't run without, I'd say Jello. It's a part of http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12296, and it definitely livens up the game a bit.

I mean, who doesn't like jello?

Mothership Zeta Crew - http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8747 - Turned a crappy DLC into my favorite by far. Amazing amount of work he put into this and it is still being worked on, adding a new mission atm. :D

Fellout - http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2672 - Takes out the annoying green tint and makes the nights into true darkness.

Street Lights - http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8069 - Works great with Fellout. Adds light to the street lights in DC and throughout the wasteland. Some even flicker on and off so I think it is cool, immersion mod, IMO.

DCInteriors Project - http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5573 - Removes the broken/boarded up doors in DC (And throughout the wasteland) and adds interiors to them, giving you the ability to actually explore the DC ruins. Great for roleplaying.

Just a few of my favorite mods :)

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10597 - Allows you to turn your XP up or down and is controlled by an object in your inventory

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6190 - Because more perks == good

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11710 - Puts a little park into the middle of town where the bomb sits

and the one that gives my character her morning coffee  : http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6338

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12221. I can't believe LLama didn't list this
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1745. The wasteland is much more bearable with a few extra chems.
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10607. Tried this after growing tired of that other weather mod :whistling:
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8934. Makes combat much more challenging.
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1418. More music is better...isn't it?
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3388. Who wouldn't want to mod their weapon?

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5612 - Adds a new radio channel, with some really ambient, horror kind of music. I find it fits in quite well when your alone, lost, in the sewers. :3
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4474 - Adds leather armour for dogmeat to wear. Just because he looks cute in it. xD
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12833 - Turns the Pipboy into a PDA. It feels better than a Pipboy, especially if im using FWE alternate starts, and it wouldnt make sense if my character had a Pipboy.
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13308 - Quest that lets you go back to Vault 101. Just because. :P

There ya go, a list of my fave mods (so far) ;)

Well, I'm going to throw Arwen's Realism Tweaks in here. It's the only mod I absolutely need to play. The only other mod I feel like mentioning that hasn't already been said is DarNIU.

OK, the most essential mod of all is named: "Veryveryhard"

This mod does more to customize your games difficulty than any mod on the Nexus, and it does it all with only three Global settings. Specify exactly how much damage you take, how much you deal, and how much experience you get.

But to start the actual list, first I'll give the ones you all probably already know, then I'll list the little known mods that everyone should still have.

Common Mods:

RH_Ironsights + FWE compatibility patch.
Dynamic Weather 2.3
Project Beauty
Darnified UI
ASU or CASM
Dree perks + UPP perks
Any quest mod from Puce Moose.
Enhanced Blood textures
Taking out the trash
Flak + CEI + DCinteriors
More Map Markers
No blur on hit
Overhead3PCamera

Little known mods:
Weapon Recoil (With ironsight gun sway + recoil, who could ask for more fun?)

More 2 Megaton (Aren't you bored of doing the same old routine in megaton by now? This is a full voice acted string of quests, free from bugs, that adds many new NPC's and buildings to megaton -- but they are integrated seamlessly and it just makes doing megaton worth it again. There's a bounty board, the ability to do defense missions for the town, become the town sheriff by helping all of its citizens and getting voted in, take out loans but be careful to pay them back, collect robot components to have the town mechanic purchase them with the option of selling you robots in return that you can in turn keep as companions or sell to various factions for profit, and much more)

Dangerous Radroaches: Aren't you sick of them being little more than a nuisance? Comes with an MMM compatibility patch.

New supermutant overlords: Variety is the spice of life, comes with a frozen overlord option as well.

Powered Power Armor: A lot like weapon mod kits for your Power Armor. Upgrade existing power armor, build your own. Some cool features are the ability to discharge an emp pulse from your armor, go into overdrive mode to increase speed, fall damage resistance, melee damage: but be careful not to use all of your armors power or overheat. Keeping your power armor powered up with any energy ammo or fission batteries (power drain is configurable). Also comes with two new weapons that run off of your suits power (but you have to find them) and tons of other accessories.

Imps more complex needs: Puts primary needs to shame.

Deadly Turrets: Sick of turrets svcking? More damage, more health, and more variety with new textures.

***Double Perks***: What's the point of having all of those perk packs if you're not able to use them? Do you play your game with reduced experience levels? Is reaching a new level a rare occurrence for you? Why not celebrate with two perks instead of one? Afterall, if you're running your game with MMM + FWE like most people are, then you can make the game hard enough to actually need two perks per level.

Fast travel: I forget the exact name of this one but it allows you to fast travel while in combat if the enemies aren't too close to you. Vanilla fallout won't let you travel if a molerat happens to be hidden behind a rock half a mile away. Pretty frustrating. This fixes your frustration.

FO3 Wanderers Edition - Talon Loot Crash Fix: Sick of crashing every time you loot a pack of smokes with FWE? CTD begone. Really works!

I'll Touch What I Want: Sick of those annoying comment around everyone whenever you brush again an item? This shuts people up.

Megaton Walkway: Sick of having to walk halfway across the world just to reach your own bloody house or grab a drink? This will fix you right up.

New_Eyebot: Eyebots have always been nothing more than a petty nuisance until now! With this mod they will get stronger as you level, with new and different weapons depending upon your level and their model as well as more health and armor.

NPCs Sleep Tighter: Makes it so NPC's don't wake up from the sound of a faint breeze.

QuickerMessages: Did you know that many messages are defaulted to stay up for 10 seconds? This mod intelligently adjusts message time based upon message length. Most messages now stay up for only two seconds.

RandomEncounters: Don't play the game without this mod! This gives you a quest that tracks random encounters. 90% of the time a random encounter happens the player doesn't even know about it. It usually happens off in the distance in a different direction from the one you're headed, but is spawned by its general proximity to you. Now with this mod it will place a map marker and a quest pop-up telling you when and where each random encounter is happening. Why miss out on one of the funnest aspect of the games anyway? With this you won't have to.

Artorps Zooming Scoped Weapons: FWE's zoomreworked mod was broken for me so I went looking for something that wasn't.

I forgot to mention FWE Ironsight Overhaul http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15578#fileanchor

Great mod the guy put in a lot of work making sure that all of the separate Ironsight meshes/textures floating around got compiled into a comprehensive replacement pack for FWE. Gun damage remains the same while offering up cool texture replacements and fixing the guns that the RH_ironsight FWE patch left out.

Comes with Helmet POV

Directional Flashlight Beam

and Selective Fire built in.

(Do me a favor and endorse it because it's something someone should have done a long time ago and it's being overlooked now due to lack of endorsemants)

Wow. thanks for the heads up. Been using FWE but hated the lack of iron sights. The FOV sounds great too- I used one in Morrowind.

I`ll definitely endorse once I`ve run it a little.

Another edit:
Hmm. I`ve had a look at this. It removes all the WW1 and WW2 weapons which I liked and felt fitted in better with the game timeline since the FO3 world was stuck in the 1950s... I also like WW2 stuff... hmmm

The FWE Ironsights overhaul seems to mess with too many things and with Darnified UI. For instance I had my compass off using Darns UI, but now the compass is back on and no amount of editing will let me remove the compass and some other HUD settings. I don`t want a GPS telling me where everybody is.

I`m sorry but I cannot endorse this Mod or use it until I find a way to get rid of the compass and have like I did when Darn was working. I will try a little more but am about to give up. I thought this was just an Ironsights and FOv mod, not a `change other things too Mod`. Some modders really need to just Mod what they say they Mod and not everything else inbetween.

OK after taking time out from precious work and delving into the problem, I finally managed to override the mod so I can get rid of the compass. :) It was a lot of hassle, but I figured it out.

Now I`ll test the Mod and should give my endorsemant.

It adds in mauser, enfield, kar 98, BAR, has the garand... If anything I have more ww2 weaps than before lol. But I'm not picky, I just want ironsights.

PS You have to disable Rh_fwe patch to run it

(Also it says it makes changes to the menus in the description, the author is japanese but he did his best there to inform people)

It makes these changes because several of his additions need it to work. Like, his halo-shield like optional perk -- needs a menu to show you shield level. Same way grenade hotkey does. Selective fire does as well. Etc.

I forgot to mention it also adds a Perk that gives a halo-like shield complete with interface UI for shield health for either vanilla or darnified.

AND it adds purchasable portable turrets, perfect for making a base somewhere or just to deploy in combat, and they are priced in such a way to not make them overpowered ... mine sell for 2300~ caps. Which is more than I can usually afford in my game with FWE + harsh traders.
