Your personal greatest game of all time

Post » Mon Jan 18, 2016 5:28 am

I think it mostly disappointed people that only played the second one and was expecting a similar experience with the third. Sae Kurosawa is definitely up there in my top 5 as the most demented ghost villain of all time.

I also think playing as Kei put off a few people.

I was more creeped out by the house than being in the Manor of Sleep.

Heh, GOAT. because BOAT is already taken by Vsauce?

Anyway, my Steam name and user across the net (apart from Fulmen) should reflect my favorite game: Fire Emblem: Blazing Blade.

Morrowind is my favorite open-world RPG and Planescape Torment is my favorite story-based RPG. However, there are many other games I also adore and enjoy playing.

And yes, I love Fallout 4!

Lets do top 5 instead.

1. Dragon Age: Origins

2. TES V: Skyrim

3. The Witcher 2

4. Metal Gear Solid 3 - Snake Eater

5. Mass Effect 2

There are still over 20 games i would almost put top 5, so its close.

Oblivion, there's just something, a charm when I walk around any city, listening to the npcs have conversations and go around their day to day lives or wander outside, through the plains, by the Nibean. Feels a lot like home no matter how many times and how many hours I play it.

Same. Rei's house was just so eerily quiet.

It also didn't help that random ghosts would show up there. :P

I tried so hard to get into Oblivion man. What kind of mods do you use? (If any). I'm really thinking of giving it one more shot since I need some TES in my blood.

How can we weigh fond memories of classic games that are poorly dated to current gems with their flashy newfangled 3D worlds that can be explored beyond right and left?

As far as I'm concerned, a game that was good ten years ago is still good today. There is no such thing as a "poorly dated" game. If a game was good before, it is good now. It is gamers who have changed, who have becomes "poorly dated." The games are eternal. The age of a good game is no more important than the age of a good novel or a good play or a good film.

Agreed. I know my tastes have changed over the years. I loved some of the classics from back in the day but I have a hard time picking them up today. Not the games fault, I've just gotten, "spoiled" shall we say.

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines

Easily the best first person RPG of all time, has incredibly well fleshed out lore too since it's based on the old pen & paper game.

Darklands.

I'm always amazed that game hardly ever, if at all, gets mentioned in threads like these. It was brilliant.

I didn't mean that they are no longer playable or enjoyable, only that it's hard to compare the original Zelda to Skyrim even though I had a similar feeling to both when first playing them.

I agree in principle, but do you think it's strictly true, especially if you go back 20 years or more?

There was a time when rogue or canyon were pretty cool. Some of the original Atari or C64 games were amazing at the time, but amateurish or just plain bad by today's standards.

Back in the day, I and all of my friends absolutely loved Bards Tale (1). I don't think even nostalgia could make it worth playing now. The same is true for other later games like Civ 1.

For me, sometime around the mid to late 90s is the cutoff. I can still play fallout or pst and think they're great, but much before that and it just doesn't work. I've been thinking of revisiting ultima 7, and there might be a few exceptions, but in general I think that's too far back.

Morrowind, fallout new Vegas, fallout 2, gta San Andreas, kotor 2, ultima 4, battlefield 3, Battlefront 2, red dead redemption, vampire the masquerade bloodlines, arcanum.

Probably more but these ones off the top of my head, constantly replay them.

Morrowind. It's not the best game out there, but for me it is. Because at the time I was playing it, it gave me some of the most enjoyment out of any game I had played and I remember that fondly. Then over the last 8 years it's been doing so off and on. There are probably 5-10 other games that are extremely close though.
