Your Primary Class

As the topic title suggests...

Have you guys/girls found yourself sticking with one class since you first played the game of have you switched about a lot?

I have been quite a switcher (reset my unlocks twice now) so I was just wondering if anyone else had difficulty deciding what they liked best. At first I was Soldier and nothing else with a good few unlocks but then I ditched that because I wasn't completing enough maps (I was mostly with bots who cant hack for shizz), but then reset and split between Engineer and Soldier, with heavy emphasis on Engineer. That was good for a while, but now I've reset again for a Operative/Engineer mix with a Light Body type that's working really well at the moment. I die a lot but I find myself making some pretty crucial moves as well, which is all part of the fun.

To those who have stuck with one class since release, ever had the urge to reset your points or just randomly change main class (not just in a map at a command post) and what do you play mostly?

i've reset my abilities two or three times now im not that big of a fan of soldier class so i left it at basic i've taken most of engineer and medic and some of operative while using the rest on universal but i have to say engineer is my fave if the objective is a static protection while operative and medic are good for offensive

Agreed, a Light Engineer is something some people might get confused about but I can run it pretty well on Defense with the extra speed and flanking available, while on Offense it's pretty suicidal unless there's a heavier Engineer to back you up; so unless an objective is needed I run Operative to better deal with the defensive threat.

I'm mostly dual-spec Operative/Medic, with a handful of Soldier abilities as well - basically, I can fill any role but Engineer.

I'm better geared towards the Operative and medic, both of which are about equal in terms of abilities taken, but basically if my team doesn't look to need more Medics, I'll be playing Operative.

My fully-spec'd Soldier, Operative, and Engineer will all be able to play decent Medic, because it really only takes 2-3 abilities (the extra supplies abilities, specifically) to do so. I seem to spend most of my time playing Medic, regardless of who I bring into a game. My fully-spec'd Medic has 1-2 abilities for every class, so he can be a team-player and go for objectives when needed. I also anticipate creating something of an all-around character, who will have 3-4 abilities for every class.

What I've decided to do is specialize three characters. My heavy guy is going to be full spec engineer, my light guy is going to be full spec Operative and my medium guy will be full spec Soldier. Any left over points will be put into medic on each of them. I don't really care for the medic class, but I'd like the option of being able to do some worthwhile medic stuff if I have to.

ANYWHO, my primary class IS Engineer. My 2nd character right now is a Nade Happy Soldier/Operative. I'm not sure if i'll keep it this way, I might respec into a full-fledged Op IDK yet..

But, yep, Engineer. JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE! :)

Yeah and look at the soldier class. They were supposed to be the offensive powerhouses, but they really cannot compete with engineer buffs and turrets as damage multipliers. I think a lot of people will go engineer initially because it's a pretty easy class to learn with and it's satisfying. As the game wears in a bit expect to see more diversity.

I have always been an Engineer. I only changed my body type a few times. I pretty much only use the Light body type now. Heavies are too slow and since I dislike the assault rifles and use SMGs, I decided to just play as a Light.

I was level 20 and now I am level 17 after purchasing the wrong abilities multiple times :(

I wanted to max out universal abilities and my Engineer, however, the first time I reset I started purchasing abilities for the Operative by accident so I reset again, the second time I purchased all the universal abilities only to realise that some offer disadvantages rather than advantages (here's looking at you, Sense of Perspective!). I reset again and now i've left a few ability tokens free and I am down a lot of XP.

i play as an Engineer most of the time. I only switch when my team really needs someone.
of course, once one more level till 20, then i will be making other characters, first of whom is a heavy russian soldier with a blond flat top and striped shirt.

I'm useless as an Engineer, but I can go head-on against one as an Operative and be about 50/50 on winning even when I have to charge through their turret. As a Soldier, I'll usually be the last one standing.

Interesting. I didn't expect so many engineers when I first purchased the game. I was worried everyone would be Operative but it's good that there's a fairly decent mix with the emphasis on the most useful class (sorry, Medic, you're still number 2). Most of the guys I play with are a Soldier/Engineer mix so it was natural to get used to the Operative class. I know a few other friends who will definitely play Operative when they get the game... we'll be running low on Medics, but we did in BC2, too.

I think the primary reason why the expected flooded class of operative is relatively low is because SD decided to make weapon allocation be a determinant of your size, not your class. A concept I have been waiting for, for a long time. It just makes sense to allow someone who builds turrets in the back to use a sniper rifle back there as well. Let the turret cover your butt, just like a claymore would. I feel that operative might be a tad on the weaker side since it lacks many of the primary support abilities that other classes have, ie buff heal or buff damage, so most people who play operative either need to for the objective or really want to kill someone with a backstab.

I've done the best I can to reset my abilities as little as possible [back to lvl17] and I've got my points on what I find are the most useful of the universal abilities, and spread the rest between the Soldier and Engineer, with the engineer one mine is enough especially when you consider you can lay more than one satchel charge at a time as a Soldier, so I know my preferred class may stay Soldier once I get those Satchel charges, yet I will miss buffing my own damage to two shot someone with the Ritchie.

I actually thought there would be a whole ton of soldiers, just because the molotov is a lot of fun and you get it right away.

I have a medium Soldier/Medic as my main and a light Medic / Not Sure Yet as my second character.

I feel like soldiers really start coming into their own at higher levels, once you start getting kevlar and enhanced grenades. As a medium with an AR/SMG and a bunch of grenade options, plus scavenge, you can really cause a lot of sustained damage. Especially if you have an engy friend to buff your weapon. Plus, I find that holding down some locations for any extended time is not possible without a pretty constant ammo resupply. I'm really digging the class so far.

Having medic as a second class is just excellent. As Nickelstew said above, just a few skills makes you a really helpful class, and if you get on a less than stellar team it's usually very helpful to be able to switch to a medic and revive people.

Playing a light medic was the one thing I said, "Nah, that's not for me" to, prior to getting the game. But somehow I ended up making one and it's a real blast. I have no idea what to make his secondary class, because I haven't been in a scenario where I didn't want to just play him as a medic. I would think Operative might be worth it? If I'm comfortable enough to not play medic with him, it's probably because my team is already kicking some ass and an op might be fun.

I'm focusing on those and I haven't even started up my heavy engineer or any kind of operative.

I feel like there's a ton of game left to explore and try out, which is why I get irritated when people say they, "beat the game in 2 hours, now there's nothing to do."

Heavy Soldier.

As I have to do all the killing because of my [censored] AI team, I might as well get good at it. With a big chaingun.

My main is Engineer, and I use him when I play on my own with strangers.
My friend is a Medic all the way, and when I play with him I use my alt who is Soldier all the way. I've had tons of fun with the Soldier. Everyone runs out of ammo fast, and the molotov and flash bang grenades force me to use scavange. It's an all-around awesome class that keeps me busy in any mission, even if there is no need to plant charges. :D
I just started an Operative character. It's a drastic change from Engineer and Soldier... I'm enjoying the challenge of learning what to do with it.
My friend loves his Medic character and sees no point in playing any other class. What's funny is that he always has 'top kills' along with 'top medic' in every game we play lol

If you're going Operative, Caltrops and Comms Hack are the only abilities you can't pass up. Cortex Bomb, Homing Beacon, and Sticky Bomb are all great, but only if you're good with them, and using them in the right situation. They won't suit every player who runs as an Operative - some people find Stickies completely useless, I think they're one of the best tools an Operative has.

I won't go on about the EMP though, because you're planning to run Medic as your main, so Lazarus would be the better choice.

Mmm, I have enough that I could do a few of those. Sticky Bombs seem like they could be a lot of fun. Let me ask you, if you have grenade shooting, can you pop a sticky onto sombody and then shoot it to blow them up? Or is it just on a timer?

Timer only. Pretty sure that grenade Shooting only works with Frags, unfortunately.

And the Sticky timer is a long one. Gives people time to remove it, and when it's removed, it doesn't blow up. But you can drop one in a doorway or a corner and when the enemy steps on the Bomb, it explodes. Often they're more about confusing/panicking the enemies than actually doing damage - if you can take 2 people out of the fight for a few seconds, that gives your team an advantage, even if you don't blow anyone up - kills with them are just an added bonus.

And they do a LOT of damage when they go off.
