Your Private Survival Vault

Okay, you hear that bombs are going to fall, you have enough time to read your self in a shelter in your back yard. What would you have in your own vault, supplies, weapons so on. Share your ideas and lists! :coolvaultboy:

-A Stargate with the coordinates to at least 50 habitable planets-
-A warp drive vessel-
-One of those signalling rings Ford Prefect had in HGTTG-
-Enough room to hang myself-

A shotgun and atleast two shells.
One for myself, and another just incase i mess up.

Why would i do that? Because let's face it, with out other people inside the vault the object of survival is quite pointless with out progressing the human race.

I would have...

-A room for growing hydroponic produce (you can't live off ramen noodles and vienna sausages forever)

-An M4 rifle with 3 boxes of clips (or an R90 (US assault rifle) if we're in the Fallout Universe)

-My classic literature set (Huckleberry Finn, Robinson Cruesoe, etc)

-A few cans of dried fruit (in case the hydroponics mess up)

-A radiation suit

-15 blank notebooks, 5 packs of pencils and pens

-Board games (face it, nuclear winters last a while)

-No major electronics (EMP, remember?)

-A kevlar vest and Army BDUs (camo type depends on where I am)

-PEOPLE (preferably my family and a few friends, provided I can get them in here in time)

First before I even set foot in the thing I'd check that there aren't any F-ed up experiment that's going to happen, here's my list:

1. A place to grow loads of food and also some trees that will make oxygen and Water purifier so I don't start getting irradiated

2. between 400-500 people who I can trust along with people who are scientists armed security and engineers, so the vault survives

3. A status chamber that will keep my body and mind alive for decades, my plan is to be the Overseer and after a the first few years I will go into the status chamber for a decade or 2. So I can survive to see the world in a few centuries, it would also have loads of defences so no one tries to kill me. I will also stay out of the Chamber for Five years, then go back in until we leave the vault

4. Journals, Books, tons of writing equipment, I need at least 2000 pens with clicky tops and games (board and video) so I don't get bored

5. A good source of electricity, then the vault should make its own renewable source

6. loads of space inside the vault, so everyone has enough room for everything and we still have some to use

7. A terminal that connects to a satellite to show updates about the area around the vault, it would work like google earth except much much better and sophisticated

8. A computer with all the information and software to make a game and also have loads of space

9. A database containing all of earth known history

10. Guns for the security guards, like 10mm pistols. I would have more powerful weapons and some ammo for them. I would also have some Power Armour

11. Animals, for meat and companionship

Thats all I can think of, if everything works out we should be repopulating the earth in a few centuries and I will be there to see it :P

Thinking that I could have Bills Gates personal vault (costs 175 million, largest private underground structure in the world..)

Okido here goes:

My backyard opens out onto a Swiss alpine meadow about a third of the way to the summit, just to let everyone know. Nice hard granite rock, and tons of it.

The entrance opens out into a U shaped tunnel that exits again about a mile further along the mountain slope and is large enough for two way vehicle traffic. This is your over blast tunnel that will redirect any overpressure from a direct hit to the entrance out of the mountain again.
The real vault entrance is in the inner corner of the U shaped tunnel, outfitted with a cycling lock. This lock is large enough to allow one way vehicle traffic through the lock and into the vault proper.

Through the lock, the tunnel first climbs before doubling back over the U shaped tunnel and deeper into the mountain. This goes over the blast tunnel to avoid cave ins again in the event that the entrance is directly hit.

The first area is the motor pool and maintenance shops that service the vehicle fleet, including a complete repair shop with bridge. At the back of the motor pool area is a second area with supplies and storage equal in size to the motor pool area. Beyond this hydroponics for food cultivation and beyond that the living area. Last, beyond the living area in the deepest part of the mountain would be a radiation hardened storage area where all back up electronics are stored, along with the media library and a very sophisticated comms array that can be set up and will receive basically anything that can be broadcast.

Power is geothermal run, with the same water/air scrubbers that the nuclear submarines have, that run for ever.

Storage would contain seed banks for crops ?as well as for when the vault re-opens.
All manner of frontier tools, as well as more modern tools, but with the basics for back up.
Instruction manuals on how to build basically everything.. from the ground up.

That'll do.

...and gun. Lots and lots of guns. With bullets. Even more bullets.

Lets keep the number of people at 3 max (not including you)

But that would lead to incist, example:

2 males and 2 Females who are all not family

2 males + 2 Females=Become 2 couples who then have 2 children each
4 Males + 4 Females= become 4 couples who each have 4 children

Then all the Children would be cousins or siblings and that would lead to inbreeding would would lead to children with disabilities. Also that example was presuming that each couple had 2 more children then the previous generation of couples and none of the people were homosixual, had died before they were old enough to have children or just didn't get married. that's why in my vault there were between 400-500 so there is a unlikely chance of inbreeding for centuries and it was below the maximum number of people a vault could sustain (1000 people)

A deep mine shaft base with 10 females to each male. Where animals are bred and slaughtered, and where we must stick in for the next 100 years.

Just remember, you have to keep an eye on that Mineshaft Gap. *firm nod*

For my own part- psh. You can keep your Vaults.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to see a man about an oil rig. >.>

Nah, just take about three women for yourself, and then a crapload of of refrigerated sperm for the female descendants to impregnate themselves with.

The qustion of what to do with the bodies of the dead is a problem. There was a secret spy base during the second world war who were sealed in, in the event that one of them died, they would have been concreted into the walls.

The words in bold will break in like less than 10 years.

The words in italic will be useless in 20-30 years or more if you're lucky.

----

I wouldn't take anything, I would just take drinks and some books, that's it. I'll read myself to death.

The only rooms in the vault will be Living Quarters, Overseer's office, and Cloning Lab. I do not believe in six to continue life.

incist FTW :D

The inbreeding would not be a significant problem until maybe generation three, four or five. (Though five might be pushing it)

Actually, forget my previous answer. I would have a one room vault with 8 tranquility loungers (like in Vault 112). I could set up my own ideal paradises and universes to live in while everyone else burns in nuclear fire. One would be for me, one for mom, one for dad, one for my brother, 2 puppy sized ones for my dogs, one for my girlfriend, and one for my greatest enemy. I would live happily with my family while simultaneously torturing my enemy (feeding him to sharks, burning him alive, and making him listen to Sunny and Cher CDs as examples).

when it gets to the nitty gritty nuclear warfare...this is what i would have in my shelter, and what it would be like.

the nuclear shelter door is not facing the wind's general direction, although i doubt it would matter. the entrance is not a ladder though. it is a door in the side of the creek nearby, the shelter door is at a diagonal, with stairs going down more, the flatland area will get average radiation all around, but there will be rather decent pocket by the front door, best to have two enterances to the shelter, one in the house, and one by the creek. avoid getting near the house entrance because that house is going to have plenty of radiation in it.

there will definitely be a shower in the shelter, definitely a shower, but i would conserve the water for only when i go out of the shelter to take measurements on the radiation.

i will have an armory that consists of at least one scoped rifle, i would use it to gather food after my standard food supply runs out. i would have a shotgun for close quarters inside a building raid.

i would have a personal computer that has a server on it, either scavenged from above the shelter, or use my own computer.

so there it is..all i need...

-457 dominoes
-3 video cameras
-2 shotgun shells
-1 knife
-1 double barelled shotgun
-tons of random household junk

Using all of these I would create a detailed chain reaction course and at the end the dominoes would hit the knife causing it to fall on a string that would pull the shotgun's trigger, shooting me.
I gotta go out with style so the video cameras would capture all of the dominoes falling and the course I built for somone to find one day.

Kind of like the Gold Ribbons Grocer thing in F3, only 12 times cooler.

For the first month, my woman, 5 bottles of vodka, silenced shotgun, my German Shepherd, and a months supply of ramen noodles + water.

After the "black rain" has cleared the air, head-out towards my Yacht and sail to the Yucatan or Cuba. What else?

Well since its my own Private Vault:

1. Enough food to last me about 80 years, if thats any possible.
2. Some way of communication with the outside world, a laptop and if there would still be a Internet connection...but I doubt it. If all other cool communication devises don't work, then at least a hand-radio. (If in the Fallout 3 universe, a pit boy is all ya need.)
3. My own Armory, with many type of weapons...you name it: assault rifles, shotguns, pistols, grenades, rocket launchers, (Fallout 3 universe=Frag Mines) and etc.
4. A entertainment room, with my Xbox360, my desk top computer with a awesome video card and speed, I also would have in there some exercises equipment because face it your going to be in there for a long time, at least get fit if there is any chance of going outside. Also a TV, with a DVD player and so forth.
5. A 100% rad resistant radiation suite (Maybe one from the Fallout 3 world).
6. Get lonely, so you most have something down there with you...like my two dogs Rusty and Choxie. On second thought, what if they die down there in The Vault before I did....it would be sad but also the smell would be bad!! lol.
7. I guess a Furnace would help with the problem with number 6.
8. A course a bed room, in there would be a desk for my laptop and that would be my place to do some good meditation.
9. Oh and finally a built in underground garage, with this SUV: http://images.paultan.org/thumb-lamborghini_suv.jpg but the catch is, its customized to be ceilled so that no radiation can get in, and it has a built in mini gun, which can be controlled from inside of the SUV, plus its armored with the best armored plating in the world. The SUV can be lifted by a elevator to the surfaces.

Thats about it.
