I realized over time that I perform rituals that I've made up for my character. These go beyond some standard roleplay mechanics like always eating, sleeping, etc. Some of mine include:

Placing Dragon's Tongue and Nightshade in front of the fireplace in Battlehorn Castle's Private Quarters. The Nightshade is an offering to Sithis, and the Dragon's Tongue is in preparation for Skyrim.

During the Dark Brotherhood quests, I would always kneel (crouch) and bow my head (look down) at the inner door to the Sanctuary. I did this every time I entered and exited until I finished the Guild. Then I just used the Well entrance.

When I fast travel to Dunbarrow Cove, my other base besides Battlehorn, I always dive off of the hill into the water.

All of my houses must have at least one pumpkin displayed. I just love 'punkins.'

Before I go to sleep (in-game) I always sit and read a book and enjoy a Silver Goblet of Surilie Brothers Vintage 415.
