Your Skyrim Upgrade Plans

i dont know alot about intell or nvidia but from what i can see you have a quad core processor at 3.2ghz 6gb ram(ddr3?) and a mid ranged card that has a higher memory clock but lower core clock and stream processors than my Radeon HD 5770 1gb ddr5. but i dont know how much vram it has, is it 512mb or 1gb?
but yeah, from what i see you have a decent machine that should run it.

Thanks matey. :goodjob:

Incidentally, it's a 1gb card.

And the RAM...

6144MB (2x2GB) (2x1GB)1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel Memory

Most likely going to upgrade video to something DX11 capable, even if Skyrim doesn't end up using that. Other stuff probably will that I'm also planning on getting.

Perhaps a new CPU too, depending on how cheap they are in the next few months. I don't see much need for anything else.

Right now I have

Intel Q8400 2.66GHz
NVidia 9800GT
2GB RAM

I'm thinking of upgrading to 4GB of ram and POSSIBLY a slightly better graphics card by the time ESV comes out.

Bah nevermind about that RAM!! Found out 32bit systems only recognise around 3GB of RAM...

... I'm pretty sure that I need to upgrade a good portion of my hardware to be able to run the game. Can someone tell me if what I have is acceptable, and if not, what would you recommend?

Microsoft Windows XP Professional 32 bit (soon to upgrade to Windows 7)
Intel Core 2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13 GHz
3.00 GB of RAM
NVidia GeForce 9400 GT

I will be building a new PC anyway within the next 9 months. Crysis 2 is also on my radar and I will be looking at the new Intel Sandy Bridge line.

Currently: E8500 (water cooled), 8800 GTX, 4 GB DDR2, OS on a 60 GB SSD, 2 x RAID 0 Raptors (for my humongous Steam folder), 500 GB storage.
So I will be keeping the drives and replacing everything else.

I only need to upgrade my graphics card, buying a GTX 580 which will replace my GTX 295, plus it's an overclocked version.I'll need to replace one of my optical drives, the single DVD ROM one, with a new,and I will getting a more powerful PSU for safety and overclocking space. Finally, I'm making the move from 22'' to 27",buying a nice LCD TV Monitor.Total cost will be around 1200 Euros.

I allways upgrade ahead when needed, planning it before months, and never for a single game.System specs are as follows:

PSU: Chieftec 850W silent.

MOTHERBOARD: ASUS CROSSHAIR IV FORMULA.

CPU: AMD PHENOM II X 6 1055T,stock speed.

VGA: PALIT NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 295 1792MB.

SOUND:CREATIVE SOUND BLASTER X-FI MB(onboard HD Audio).

MEMORY: 8 GIGABYTES CORSAIR DDR 3 DOMINATOR 1600 MHZ.

HARD DISK DRIVES: INTEL POSTVILLE 80 GIGABYT SSD for OS, WESTERN DIGITAL CAVIAR 500 BLACK EDITION SATA II X 3 IN RAID 0 FOR GAMES INSTALLATIONS.

INPUT: LOGITECH DINOVO MEDIA DESKTOP LASER BLUETOOTH MEDIA PAD,KEYBOARD,MOUSE.

CASE:COOLERMASTER STACKER 830

COOLING SYSTEMS: COOLERMASTER V10 FOR CPU, HEATSINKS FOR SATA DISKS, SEVEN CASE FANS FOR AIR FLOW.

I have seen a few others here with Nvidia 9800 Gt's and I was wondering what the consensus was on them.

I'm running on a Intel Core 2 Quad 2.5 GHz Q9300 processor and a 9800 GT with 6GB of RAM...

Although looking at my system info it says 6 GB Installed Physical Memory but only 3.45 Available Physical memory. I am running on Vista 64 so it shouldn't be limited by 4 GB should it or is that normal?

I was considering buying a second 9800 GT and hooking them both up because most newer games are not running on max graphics and I would like to push it as far as I reasonably can. Is my outdated CPU holding me back? Ah I am so worried that my PC is failing me I am losing my mind.

your joking right :touched:

About not being able to handle Skyrim? Of course.

But it did only cost me about $700 to replace my CPU, graphics card, RAM, mobo, hard drive, and power supply. An additional hundred for Windows 7 64-bit. So glad I got rid of that Frankenputer that dates back to the turn of the century, sheesh.

I just need to get a new cable for my monitor (the pins are starting to go bunk) and I'm good, but that's scarcely worth mentioning.

I already have a new rig that put together a few months ago.

Intel i7 920
6Gb ddr3 ram
ATi 4890 2Gb
AuzenTech X-Fi Prelude

I think that my rig should be able to handle a game that comes out on consoles...

ah thats good then. hopefully your using a 64bit system or else your only getting 3/6 gb of ram usage. and the 1gb of vram helps a lot with graphics

I plan on spending around £1400 on a custom built PC, which will hopefully be able to run Skyrim on high, if not maximum, settings. I believe that £1400 would be around $2100 US dollars currently, according to the current exchange rates. :3

For that price you'd better be playing two threads of it simultaneously on two 30 inch LED monitors.

My system is perfectly fine how it is. I really don't feel like getting a new mobo/processor just to get that itty bitty edge over an M4A48 Plus and a Phenom II X2.

I'm probably going to get a new GPU before it's released. I hope the AMD 7x series will be out by then, if not then I'll get something like a 6870. Or maybe switch to Nvidia. But I don't really know how they sort their cards as well as I know how AMD sorts theirs.
Almost called the card ATI :) ATI/AMD, bah.

Why not get the 6950? more power and its not too outrageously priced. When (if) i do build PC thats what im putting in there.

I'm just going to play it on the 360 at first, then play it later on my computer when I run out of content and require mods to keep the game fun. Just like in Morrowind, and just like in Oblivion.

You don't need anything but you should get a new monitor, your rig could definitely support a large 16:9 or 16:10 resolution.

i wandered the same thing and did a lil research. it depends mainly on how well the game utilizes multi cores. with a comparison i saw between a dual and a quad on games that did a good job at utilizing the cores the quad did slightly better but not by a huge margin. this basicly means that the dual did an excellent job of processing but with a quad it was able to push some of the load onto one of the extra cores and gave it a slight improvement.

i believe the i-7 is is a hex core so it would run it no prob. and from what ive herd the i series is very efficient. i just dont support Intel because i dont have that kind of money. :sadvaultboy:

i7 has already 4-6 cores, depending of the model. Obviously, that's better than dual-core in terms of performance.

I'm no fan of Intel either. Still don't know why they charge 3x the price of an equal AMD CPU...
