I spent £350 (not including monitors, keyboard, or mouse) on a rig that will run NV like a dream - though I fear you can do it at significantly higher resolutions :P

Yeah, it defaulted mu to Ultra-High then I upped the resolution above that :P

i recommend AMD because it runs just as good and is much cheaper than Intel. this is in speculation with the Phenom II series. take that extra 100+ dollars you saved by not getting Intel and get you a decent video card to match the cpu.

as ive said before though i am hoping they make this game multi core friendly. or else will be stuck with a single core gasping for air wile 1-3 other cores twiddle their thumbs. but with advanced features like dynamic snow and flowing water i would guess that they are taking full advantage of multi cores.

I actually have one old computer running an AMD and my gaming rig, which has Intel, is sitting in the corner not working because of a very crappy motherboard and video card. One of those things screwed up the other and now I need a new rig. Been needing one for about 2 years but never had a reason to build a new one... until now.

I'm leaning towards AMD once again. I do no one thing, it's going to be ATI for my video card. I wasn't impressed with the GForce I had and I'm not getting another mobo with a heat pipe. That damn thing is what messed up my gaming rig.

Sound card? I pity the fool who thinks that buying a new sound card is important for gaming. There's literally no differance in sound quality between a new one and one several years old nowadays, or a new integrated for that matter.

Oh I'm not getting one for Skyrim. It's for other, very specific, reasons. Just gonna do it along with the other upgrades.

Actually there are some motherboards that have 5.1 digitial with the opitcal out. I'm going to look hard and might not get a dedicated sound card, just use the on board one. It's just going to depend on what's out there in August.

Total replacement of my computer here, including a brand new 24' monitor.

Pieces decided by now:

- Processor: AMD PHENOM II X6 1090T 3.20 GHZ.

- GeForce GTX 580.

- Motherboard: A good one, SLI-enabled (to include a 2nd GTX 580 when their prize drop even more).

- RAM: 16 gbs.

- Monitor: BenQ 24' / 1920x1080 / DVI-HDMI.

Hoping to run Skyrim at it's full freakin' potential (1920x1080, 16x AF, 32x AA). Although at such high resolutions, I don't know if AA would be even needed, or is just a waste of graphics card resources. Thoughts?

I'm upgrading my PC to be able to play Skyrim, but I'm doing it in steps since I don't have a lot of income. I've already started by buying a HD6870 and some RAM. I will probably end up buying an I7, 12 GB RAM and a new mobo but I'm waiting for the system requirements to be released before I do anything more.

I need a new processor, the dual core isn't cutting it anymore. However I have a birthday coming up and I will graduate this year so I guess that will sort it out.

I might buy a soundcard before Skyrim is released. Currently, I'm just running on integrated onboard sound.

I still don't understand why people (especially people with low budget) would rather choose to buy an Intel i7 instead of a Phenom II...

I hope it's really justified that their price is 3x the equivalent of a similar AMD CPU...

My 4850 probably won't have much trouble, since my monitor is only 1360 x 768. I'll probably invest in some additional RAM, though, maybe a soundcard, since my onboard sound wasn't mixing very well with Oblivion.

32x AA would be complete overkill at that resolution. You certainly wouldn't need more than 4x at 1920x1080, but you'd probably be fine with it turned off.

It's what I thought. I'll probably just leave it off, in order not to stress the graphics card unnecessarely.

16 gb is way to much overkill for RAM. You really don't need anything more than 6gb, the rest is a waste of money in my opinion

Maybe (or maybe not, being Skyrim such of an open world game, which are avid RAM devourers). But RAM is cheap those times. I'll aim for 16, but if it gets too out of my budget for my taste, I'll stick with 8. No Problem :)

I have a nice video card, but I'm thinking I'll need to upgrade to 64-bit processor and OS so I can run it off more than 2 gigs of RAM. We'll see if that's even an option for the game though.

I got a new PC for around $1000 two years ago (including monitor, OS and everything), and I expect it to run Skyrim just fine. If anything, I'm switching to windows 7 first. After that possibly a new graphics card, but it's not necessary yet. The only game that my PC is currently struggling with is Morrowind. :P

I have no idea what to do actually. I don't have enough money to buy a new computer or anything, and despite Ol' Faithful working so well for so long, i doubt he's gonna have a chance against Skyrim's apparently awesome graphics and extreme LOD. I think I'm having a bit of a mini-freakout right now.
I do have a ps3, but Bethesda games are supposed to be played on pc. Mods for the win. If there is a CS for the new engine that is...

Still. I'm going to go cry in a corner or something now.

I want to get a new video card, but I only need to spend around $100 to feel a difference since my current one is like 3yrs old...

check out my board http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131646 though i dont know what your budget may be but the mother board is a component you dont wanna skimp on. mines not top of the line but its not a cheaply made one either and will handle the load of the components im attaching to it

pluss i will use the on board sound since it can do 7.1 (though ill either play with a head set or 2 speakers) either way it will sound nice. the main issue people have with on board sound is the cpu gets bottle necked running sound, graphics, and codding. a card how ever processes the sound itself and takes it out of the cpu equation freeing it up. but with a duel core (hopefully quad core if it unlocks) i wont have much of a problem.

srry if no one posts before i post this and have a double post

why dont you do what im going to do. you have almost a year and more than likely you'll get money you dont have to spend on bills you can plan your self a computer on a sight such as newegg.com and by it part by part and then assemble it. you may even be able to salvage some of your current parts on you pc your using now and use them on it. like if you have DDR2 ram but want a new faster processor you can get a am3/am2+/am2 mother board and reuse the ram you have. it wont be nearly as fast as new ram but it will certainly be faster than what you have now. this is in speculation that your using amd instead of intell. amd likes to make reverse compatible parts while intell doesnt.

I'm going to replace my PC, but not because of Skyrim, but because my PC is getting old by today's standards. (+ a few other hopefully nice games in 2011 like Battlefield 3)

For just gaming it's certainly overkill.
Game art development- I can probably munch 8 gig without even trying. Having 16gb would be sweet. On 4gb, I've spent several hours on an AO map render only to have it fail due to insignificant ram. Not funny how it tells you that at the end of the render :brokencomputer:

I'll get the next gen Macbook Pro, which should be coming out a little before Skyrim's release. Then run Skyrim on Windows 7 through bootcamp. I would use that money on a custom rig but I need the MBP for school anyway and my current one is getting old..
