Your "SPECIAL"

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 1:38 am

You’re S.P.E.C.I.A.L!
Be whoever you want with the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. character system. From a Power Armored soldier to the charismatic smooth talker, you can choose from hundreds of Perks and develop your own playstyle. *

Yay. Over 200 perks to chose from. Meaning each perk is about as special as a single skill point in earlier fallout games.

=============================

That being said while I did not have a problem with skyrim's system, I do hope that this time around lockpiking at least has some interesting ones.

Only problem I see is that in F3 you could have a strong sneaky guy, and now to get uber sneaky you will likely have to max agility (almost said Dex there).

A seems like less choice & less mix and matching now.

Looks like skill points will be making their departure after all.

If the ability system is going to be similar to Skyrim then I'll be happy. In previous games I always had high INT scores to improve skill point gain. Now I'll be able to have a more even spread to slightly boost other aspects of my characters.

In Fallout 4, Intelligence will determine the amount of experience earned. Skill points are very likely gone now.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5H7Qq8quKg , you can pause at the beginning of the video and read what each S.P.E.C.I.A.L attribute does now.

I wouldn't hope for 200+ perks. The perk chart they've been teasing only shows 70 perks, and a lot of those could be ranked to bring it over 100.

That's a pragmatic guess, but with "hundreds of perks" being advertised I have doubts that the perk chart represents all of them.

Hmm.. interesting. I wonder what will determine skill rank advancement. Combination or a number of perks in a certain skill maybe.. or will it just be determined per level..

yeah, that seems a bit fishy

i'd have to hear that from bethesda and not some little bullet point feature list on steam

if seen some lots-of-exclimation-points! feature lists for quite a few games that took some real stretching liberties in exaggerating features

if its anywhere near 'hundreds' it's gonna be lots of nested perks in long trees

that is NOT a safe thing to say here

i fear for the safety of you and your radroach companion now

I couldn't disagree with you more, but hey, that's what gives the forums purpose.

I pray to God it isn't like Skyrim's. A perk tree system seems like a good way to set things up, but it railroads you and forces you to take 6 perks you don't want in order to get the one perk that's actually worth using.

The way the perk chart is organized, I'd say it's by SPECIAL. Like, you'd need 10 END to take the Solar Powered perk, 9 LCK to take Grim Reaper's Sprint, etc. But the more generic "jack of all trades" perks would be in the 1-4 SPECIAL range.

Some guy quoting Gamestop of all things is now a source?

... Lol. Ok. I guess we are that point of desperation.

It's always worth an eyebrow raised when a long-used system gets an overhaul.

But, I'm curious to how this is going to work and how it's going to influence what we can/will be able to do.

My main concern isn't whether it'll be deep or add to the role play element...I can take care of that myself. What I am chiefly concerned...is whether it will continue to make the game fun. Perks have always been like Feats in tabletop RPG's, opening up new avenues and abilities and capabilities.

Probably taken from Mr Matty Plays.

Anyways I have a bad feeling that this means we level up our special skills and then select perks based on special skills levels? Seems very skyrimy.

Oh god.

Imagine: All specials start at 100, every level up you get the option to pick "RAISE S, P, and E BY 10." "RAISE C, I, and A BY 10." and finally, "RAISE L BY 10."

The horror.

You also have to keep in mind that this is just marketing copy so "Hundreds of perks" could mean any number over 100. For example New Vegas had 117 regular perks including DLC, this could be considered hundreds of perks for the purposes of promotional copy. So if we assume there's 70 perks and lets say 20 of those 70 have up to 3 ranks each that's 130 regular perks plus companion perks and quest reward perks. It doesn't necessarily mean 200+ just because they used the plural of hundred.

When they were showing off the collectors edition pipboy, they had a lvl 24 character on the screen with a total of 31 special points. So 3 special were gained over 24 levels. Hard to tell if it's a perk every 8 or so levels, bobble heads, or some form of intense training. But it doesn't look like special increases are any more common than they were in the past.
