Machines. If there is money to be made, I will hunt them.

No no no no no. The PC cannot be a filthy toaster. Bethesda has to have more sense than that. (Even if it is I shall be forced to ignore whatever quest that is for the sake of keeping the story playable.)

Why do you think, Vault 111 is a Cryo-Vault? Plausible deniability. The player can think he was frozen for 200 years, as an explanation for his existence. Then comes the 'PLOT TWIST!!!11'...You are an android... dun-dun-duh...

Undoubtedly no. It's the reason why you will never see a AAA game with an overweight protagonist. I'd be surprised to see a game with an attractive female protagonist who is not causcasian or japanese.

You seem extremely emotional and narcissistic that people have views and opinions that differ from your own. If you cannot engage friendly debates in a mature fashion, accepting that people may and will disagree with you, I suggest you refrain from even clicking on the thread.

I guess androids have the right to behave as they were programmed to behave. If that's to do certain tasks, then they do them. If that's to perform tasks upon request, then they do them. If that's too look and act as human as possible, then they do that. If they fail to perform as designed, then they are broken and can be scrapped for parts.

Do you make a distinction between, say a Mr Handy that sets things on fire because its under the impression its cooking and Harkness?

I forgot, when some humans decide that they must kill other humans, then they, too, must be taken out. Until then, our clear enemy is androids. EMP grenades and Yuma Flats rifles for all. God bless America.

I'd have to talk to Harkness' creator to ask if he is operating within normal parameters. If he is supposed to think he is human, then he isn't an issue.

Depends. If it's a machine that's useful as is why bother breaking it down unless it's owner is paying me to do so. If it's harmful no point in it being around. Scrap it. In other words I'd treat it just like any other machine.

Here's a random thought that's not meant to be taken as me taking a stance of any kind:

I'd kill a human who I knew intentionally set another innocent being on fire. Without any qualms.

I'd probably first try to find out why a machine did that, whether it was considered self-aware or not. Hypothetically, of course, since we don't have any self-aware machines yet.

Just something I realized about myself rn and find interesting.

That's probably how I'd treat most people in the FO too.

Well technically they are all just programmed bots in the game using AI to appear as human NPC's so ... why not.

If he's self aware, wants to exist and is doing so without causing unwarranted harm to anyone else i'd say the creator can't call for his termination at least not from a morally sound standpoint.

You don't get to tell people what they can and cannot discuss. Nor is it terribly conducive to a healthy discussion to get angry when people don't agree with you. If you've put forth what you feel are definitive arguments, and people still don't agree with you then it means one of two things:

1) It's the internet and there's about a snowball's chance in hell of anyone ever changing someone else's mind about anything on the internet. Or:

2) Your arguments weren't as strong as you thought and weren't enough to convince people of your side.

But that's okay, because forums aren't about "winning," and Bethesda doesn't give away prizes to the "best argument." :)

To everyone else: Let's remember to play nicely with each other and remain civil and respectful of different opinions. It's totally okay to not agree with someone and still respect them.

Case in point, my wife and I have this same debate every time we rewatch Battlestar Galactica. She feels there'd be nothing morally or ethically wrong with destroying all of the Cylons regardless of whether they have "real" feelings and emotions or not. While I feel like it's a bit more complicated - you can't exactly make a case for the Cylons being "good guys" when they've just tried to wipe out humanity and are chasing the remnants all over the universe. But on the other hand, I subscribe to the concept that our own consciousness is but a byproduct of our reasoning capability and that we're not really so very different from a computer program. If you have enough self-awareness to be oppressed or have feelings, then it's probably wrong to oppress or torture you, whether you're made of skin and bone or metal.

We have strikingly different views on this subject, but we're still happily married (just less so when we're watching Battlestar... ;) )
