Your thoughts on: Apocrypha

Just curious what you folks think about Apocrypha. You like the ambiance and surroundings of this weird place? Do you usually enjoy your stay or does this place creeps you out and you just want to get the hell out of there? Do you read the black books ever again and go back to that place? Speak up! :D

I usually find myself hurrying through them, but I do take the time to loot the place. I only go back if I did not complete the task the first time. Like Waking Dreams. I fell off of a platform while fighting. I didn't realize I was so close to the edge and blam! I could no longer continue to fight. So, I'll be doing that one again soon.

As an aside to reading the books, I have Marcurio as a follower. When I read one, he says "I really wish you wouldn't do that." Maybe not exactly, but it is close and always makes me chuckle. Maybe even guffaw.

I like the ambience, but it's a bit too monotonous for return trips.

Marcurio is great, but he's a bit too cocky isn't he? :D

I think it's just other-worldly enough to be creepy, but treasure-rich enough to be worthwhile. The tentacles, black water, exotic architecture are very well done. I also really like the black books so I try to get over there as soon as possible.

Other than frying my green skin with his chain lightning, I really like him.

I'm quite fond of the design an feel of it. I do find it a bit linear, but that makes sense given the book motif of it.

The only real gripe I have is that there are Ruined Books lying about. That should not be.

I dread it and love it at the same time. As someone who regularly collects books, it's heaven. Obvious Lovecraftian theme doesn't hurt either.

Yeah, it's really a set of small dungeons rather than a new land. But the ambiance is cool.

Honestly, I just go nuts grabbing books and scrolls (to sell usually)

I only hate getting the dova kicked out of me when I go in at too low a level. (not making that mistake again.)

I thought it was a nice alteration of the old oblivion gate premise, with just the right number of trips to the world of Hermaes Mora. Any more and the repetition factor would have kicked in. Definitely appreciated the Dremora merchant perk!

It's drab and dull...which would actually be a good thing if the rest of the DLC wasn't also. IMHO Solsthim should have been bright and vibrant whereas the dark realm of Apocrypha should be how it is. I did like atmosphere of it but i felt like it was just more of the same thing...

I absolutely adore H. P. Lovecraft, and Apocrypha is a stunningly wonderful homage to him and his work. While most people may not know who he is, his work is dark, other-worldly, and very intellectual. His grasp of the indescribable is second to only Poe, and he even credits much of his influence in literature to Poe.

In all: Apocrypha and Hermaeus Mora (in Skyrim), and Hackdirt (in Oblivion) are very well done honorifics to the work of an under-appreciated author such as Lovecraft.

Bethesda makes me happy every time they not only include influences from Lovecraft, but every time they do it so very well.

Even after the pyroclastic shockwave from Red Mountain exploding rolled over the island? Solstheim is much too close to Vvardenfell to have been unaffected. And considering that Red Mountain is still dropping tons of ash on it, I think Bethesda got the imagery correct for "modern-day" Solstheim.

Initially, I thought it looked cool but I didn't really like the place and just wanted to get out as soon as possible. But during my second playthrough, I grew to like everything about the place. The darkness of it, the odd monsters, the freaky tentacles all over the place and sticking out of the water. Only thing is I wish there was more variety of enemies inside Apocrypha.

Absolute excellent depiction of Herma Mora's Plane of Oblivion. Always have an interest in Oblivion and the Daedra themselves. Hope to see more realms of other Daedric Princes *cough Coldharbour expansion for future TES that isn't TESO *cough*.

Dremora Merchant perk?

I find them pretty scary. :(

What would win, a Lurker or a Giant?

I think the Lurkers. They seem 'smarter' and have a wider variety of attacks.

The Dremora Merchant is a merchant that

Spoiler
you can get as a reward for one of the Black Book quests. Sorry it's been awhile I forget which one. You call upon the merchant (it's under your powers) and he will appear out of thin air and allow you to trade with him. Extremely handy if you're on the verge of over encumberance. He also sells Daedra hearts and other various Daedric weapons/armor. But its all random.

I detest it Sir. Not least for the fact that I have the following random glitch.

Open Black Book

Enter Apocrypha,

Disable my ability to 'Save' option.

Disable my up and down head motion.

Make my Active Weapon Invisible.

Make my Active Weapon unable to inflict Damage.

I like the sound of the fluttering book pages as I lay dying.

Always end on a positive Sir.
