Your thoughts on new vegas?

Post » Fri Jun 18, 2010 12:00 pm

Hey, as my first forum post I thought i'd get the consensus of the community here on what New Vegas is like, it should arrive tommorow or the day after, the xbox version, and as a longterm series fan I can't wait. However, iv'e heard some concerning things, particuarly the horrific ammount of bugs, the limited or poor music, and "less memorable" moments, however, from the limited footage iv'e allowed myself to see, it looks great. It looks alot in line with Fallout 2 to me, and i'm happy Obsidian worked on this title, I just hope it's not another Never Winter Nights 2.

So yeah, tell me what you think :)

Ill let you know as soon as I get a chance to play it. (4 hours in and DLC glitch means i can't even load any of my 3 saved games without a "NO DLC PRESENT" error.)

Incredible game, and the sequel that Fallout 2 truly deserved. Fallout 3 has become completely irrelevant to me now.

I'm having very few bugs with the PC version, but from the looks of it, console users (particularly 360 users) seem to be suffering.

I'm sure this will be addressed in a patch shortly. Obsidian has been throwing out patches much faster than Bethesda did with Fallout 3, and it shows that they really care about us.

I've been able to play through nearly 30 hours on the PC version with about three crashes and one small glitch that fixed itself. Without bugs the game is great. My advice? Hold off a bit and wait for a few patches to come out for the 360 (shouldn't take long) then play it.

There have also been a lot of memorable moments in my opinion.

Love it. It has breathed life back into the Fallout franchise. Don't want to hi-jack your thread, but check http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1128733-fallout-fallout-2-fans/ for a more in-depth opinion from me and a few others.

been playing xbox version, runs perfectly (almost). a few little things here or there, but nothing horrible. mostly just little glitches that break immersion, like walking into walls and falling into the terrain a little. so far i have had the game freeze 4 times, not too bad i guess, been playing for 32 hours.

Yeah, me too. In terms of gameplay, story, writing, and dialog, New Vegas is superior to Fallout 3 in every single way and much more like Fallout 1 and 2.

I'm enjoying it thoroughly so far even with a couple of so far minorish pipboy problems and a couple of points where it locked up on me, despite those to myself minor problems I'm enjoying what I've seen of it so far.

No, I saw the thing with mr house miles off. It was all predictable. The characters are good though, no good and evil BS fallout had, well the legion is evil but still, I like how gray ncr and house are.

Right, but the story is still infinitely better than Fallout 3's "durrrr find Daddy and make sure the Enclave doesn't turn on the water before you do!" plot.

This is the huge difference for me. As I said in another thread, F3's plot comes in the form of a command: "Follow your dad and find your destiny!", which I guess would be fine if there was nothing to compare it to. NV's plot comes in the form of a question: "Some mysterious guy tied up in some mysterious plot just shot you in the head. Now what are you gonna do about it?" Feels much more like FO1/FO2 in that regard.

Let me first say that I love New Vegas, but like all games, I have my problems with it.

1. The strip is totally underwhelming. Maybe my (and everyone else) expectations were too high, but there's just not anything going on, besides the one dancer or two, and a few drunks.

2. The amount of missions is amazing! I've done sooooo many and I've hardly put a dent into the game, or so I'm told.

3. The bugs haven't been too bad for me.

4. Again, my main problem is the strip! Gah!

It hasn't grabbed me as much as FO3 did, but I can't be hating it because I've put over 9 hours into it this weekend. I'd put it about on a par with Dragon Age: Origins - and I guess it's more that type of RPG (more questy, less sandboxy). My personal experience of bugginess - about equal to Mass Effect, I guess - it's not Vampire TMB bad.

Pretty sure the only reason they're throwing out patches faster is because the game is virtually unplayable to some. Fallout 3 had bugs, but apparently the amount in New Vegas is just ridiculous.
What I don't get is how they didn't see the bugs. Either that, or they don't care about us and sent out an unfinished game for us all.

Fallout New Vegas is to Fallout 3 as Super Mario Galaxy is to Super Mario Sunshine.

I have the PS3 version of New Vegas, and I love it. I was worried because I had heard a lot of reports that FO3 didn't run so well on the PS3 (I had FO3 on the 360, but it has recently red ringed and I don't have the money to spare right now to replace it) but New Vegas has run just fine with no more problems than I would expect from an open world game like this. Even if it crashed and glitched a lot (which, for me at least, it doesn't) the game is fun enough that I think I would be able to tolerate it.

Awesome!
But.
Ain't enough CL quests or NPC's to talk to.
And Energy Weapons seems very nerfed. :(

Love the game, absolutely through and through. Better than Fallout 3, very few bugs for me (PS3) and so far--knock on wood--nothing to make it unplayable. I love how things seem to have higher values, there's more sense of an economy, many factions, gangs, ammo choices, crafting, the story line. Almost everything is better in every way. hardcoe mode and less perks/stat points to distribute will probably increase the replayability for me 10 fold.

The only things that are let downs for me are the SAME damn graphics. They're not bad, but they could be soooo much better compared to other games, even those released a year ago or more. Character movement animations have always been awkward in the franchise, but whatever. I was also worried that the map seems much smaller... but I'm finding that it's not such a bad thing. The fallout 3 world had a lot of void of nothing to do, this map is just a little more compact with the same amount of stuff to do. Keeps the action rolling.

Before I even got this game, I was thinking "HIT THE STRIP!". It was a long, hazardous journey getting there, but well worth the trouble. Blackjack fattened my pockets enough to make me feel like a kid in a candy store in some of the better weapon stores.

The freezing and bugs are annoying, but not quite enough to make me quit playing. I trust that Bethesda/Obsidian will iron things out. B)

I'm really enjoying the game so far. It improves on Fallout 3 in almost every way possible, although I prefer Fallout 3 for its settings. Every other aspect has to go to New Vegas.
