Your Top Five Game Series

Post » Tue Aug 17, 2010 3:35 am

Title is self explanatory.

5. Fable
I myself do not really know why I love Fable so much but every time a new Fable game is announced I get extremely hyped and can't wait to step into Albion again.

4. Dragon Age yeah I know the second one isn't even out yet but I loved origins so much I know I am not going to be disappointed.

3. Uncharted in my opinion is the best action video game series.

2. The Elder Scrolls nuff said.

1. Fallout once again nuff said. You may ask why I like it better then the Elder Scrolls and that reason is because I love shooting things.

  • Final Fantasy
  • King's Field
  • Diablo
  • The Elder Scrolls

I can't think of another series to make the list. Plenty of singular games, but not many series.

In order of preference:

The Elder Scrolls
Monkey Island
Super Mario
Command and Conquer
SimCity

I kinda drew a blank on the last one... I tend to enjoy games on an individual basis moreso than based on the merits of their successors, but those series have generally pleased me throughout their spans.

2 Fallout NV / RDR (its only one game but a sequal is inevitable after its sucess). (i cant choose which I like more)

4 GTA (SR2 was good but I had more fun in SA)
5 Halo (all of them, except ODST and halo wars)

TES
Fallout
Heroes of Might and Magic
Chrono
Monkey Island

Others include Deus Ex (just the first game, but HR sounds good) and Baldur's Gate (Or just all infinity engine games), Prince of Persia (excluding 2008 and forgotten sands) and STALKER.

Not sure if I have a top 5, but I'll list my first few and see if the others come:

The Elder Scrolls series
Final Fantasy series
Neverwinter Nights series
Heroes of Might and Magic(though I have no plans on playing HOMM VI now with all the stupid changes they've made(most of all the 3 resources thing.
Mega Man series(not including anything beyond Mega Man, Mega Man X, Mega Man Zero, Mega Man ZX, all others are not part of the same universe really, nor are they in the same style)

ehh, i guess that was easier then I thought

I tried Tenchu z, it had a good idea, but was just bad imo, I got to lvl 7, it was just bland, shame becuase the idea was great.

1. Fire Emblem

2. Final Fantasy

3. Total War

4. Knights of the Old Republic

5. Dead or Alive

I would have put Fallout or TES, but to be honest, while I did enjoy those series, they wouldn't merit any "best of" list that I would put together.

Never played that one, as it's supposingly a bad one, but the Tenchu games for PS1 and PS2 (and probably the Wii game too, have yet to play that one) are very good. Especially http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenchu:_Wrath_of_Heaven.

The Elder Scrolls
Warcraft (not World of Warcraft though)
Mass Effect
Half Life

1. Final Fantasy
2. The Legend of Zelda
3. Kingdom Hearts
4. Mega Man (including Classic, X, Legends, etc)
5. Chrono

The last one is a bit misleading though. Through only two games, it's managed to crack my top 5, where as every other series (excluding Kingdom Hearts) has at least 13 games (not counting spin-offs or remakes). Valkyria Chronicles, Metal Gear Solid and the Megami Tensei series are up there too, though I've played very little of what MegaTen has to offer.

I'll have to make it six series:

Elder Scrolls
Dragon Age
Half-Life
Baldur's Gate (though only Shadows of Amn and Throne of Bhaal are worth getting IMO)
Guild Wars
Mass Effect

I wish VTM:Bloodlines could have had a sequel.

Well . . .

#5 Baldur's Gate. One of the strongest series of rpg's ever. Even if the original is a bit dated.

#4 Legend of Zelda. 25 years old, with many, many titles under it's belt. Sure, most follow the same basic formula, but can you argue with the results?

#3 Elder Scrolls. Though I didn't like Oblivion, loved morrowind. Skyrim looks like it might win me over, we'll see, there's some really cool technology behind that.

#2 Half-Life series. Great Atmosphere, awesome physics, lovable characters . . . and head crabs, what's not to like?

#1Fallout. From the original to Vegas, every title in the series is worthy in my eyes . . . . aside from a hack n slash who's name we shall not speak.

Games that would be on the list but were muddled by underwhelming sequels( at least in my eyes)

Deus Ex ( Human Revolution, please be good)
Dragon Age Not looking forward to the sequel.
Halo. Really like the series, but the titles always contain a thing or two that urk me. ODST managed to make this the entire game. Though Reach was pretty stellar I must say.
Mass Effect. Is that some rpg in my shooter? No, not really

Fallout

I honestly can't think of anything else where I really like the series as a whole. I like more single games (like Red Dead) rather then series.

I've always wanted to try Yakuza, do you need to play all the games in the series to know the story, or could I start with 3?
