Your top 10 movie representations of comic heroes!

Post » Wed Apr 13, 2016 7:49 pm

What are your top 10 favorite on screen representations of your favorite super heroes? This list is so hard, so I can't put mine in any definitive order.

Sir Patrick Stewarts Professor X - I think I speak for all when I say Professor X from the old Xmen movies was really really good. He played him spot on.

Ryan Reynolds Deadpool - Reynolds got shafted by a really bad script for Green Lantern, but his portrayal of the Merc with the Mouth was spot on IMO. Such a great film.

Chris Hemsworths Thor - Need I say more? The God of Lightning is portrayed almost to a T in terms of character and suit by Hemsworth. Spot on I say.

Andrew Garfields Spiderman - I know I'm in the minority here, but I really loved those two movies. The second one was meh, but Garfields portrayal of Peter Parker was really good and vibed with me.

Hallie Berrys Storm - She brought new life to a staple character, something that's hard to pull off. I liked her a lot.

Robert Downing Jr.s Iron Man - I think this is my #1, as Tony Stark is identical to his comic counterpart in the Marvel cinematic universe. They even make Tony Stark look like Robert in the cartoons now.

Chris Evans Captain America - I don't think I could picture Captain America played by anyone else. He just is Captain America.

Hugh Jackmans Wolverine - Despite him retiring the role after his next film, Hugh Jackman is and always will be Wolverine. Hands down.

Henry Cavills Superman - I think I like Henry Cavill as Superman better than Christopher Reeves. I know, shoot me now.

Christian Bales Batman - I think overall, Christian Bale played the most spot on role for Batman as Batman is portrayed in the comics.

Notable mentions:

Heath Ledgers Joker - Although Ledger played an amazing Joker, it was more his own version of the joker, and thus not really a great portrayal of the Joker from the comics. Although, there are a few one shot runs where the Joker is portrayed like that.

Ben Afflecks Batman - The batman we see Affleck play is actually very true to a specific run of comics called The Dark Knight Returns, by Frank Miller. Almost the entire movie is taken directly from that series, and Snyder even mentions it as his main inspiration for the film in an interview.

Jim Carries Riddler - I thought Jim Carrie did a great job of portraying the Riddle in Batman Forever. I know people hate on it, but It made me laugh.

I am disappointed Batman so many of your hero's are Marvel......... :sb:

Lets see Dang it I am going to Have to look it up actors and I dont know If I can hit 10.......... (and lets be honest I tend to find the comic's a bit better than anything that hits the screen, That said some have been well nice heh)

Jackie earl hayey............Walter Kovacks err Rorschach in Watchmen (Ya that comic too and hands down well to me, the best breath life into a page and have it come to life....No matter what you think of the movie he nailed the part same with the following)

Jeffery dean morgon.......Eddie Blake err the Comedian in Watchmen (like the above)

Alan Cumming...... Kurt Wagner or Nightcrawler X-2 (X-men comics and others, Just a character I loved as a yut.... and there he was Bamping in and out)

Uhh Rocket (bradley cooper)..........as Rocket heh IN guardians OF the galaxy

Groot (vin dieslel ?? i think) ....... as well Groot just like above (comic is the same)

Tomisaburo Wakayama .........Shogun assassin (this is based on the comic Lone wolf and cub very cool)

Brandon Lee........ Eric Draven or the CROW (based on comic the crow Also very cool)

Wesley Snipes......... Eric brooks err Blade heh ..film blade (the first one I didnt like the others soooooo) (comic well Blade hahah)

Evan peters........ Pietro hehe Quicksilver........ X-men days of future blah blah (X-men comics and others and only this version the Avengers version was rubbish there I said it)

Now these are not really in order on a given day any of them could be my #1, But you saying hey 2-caps thats only 9 [censored] learn to count.

Well you know there is one that really never moves off the top of my list, it is sort of stuck there but does it qualify it was book long before comic......

Screw it yes

Arnold Schwarzenegger ......... as Conan.... Conan the Barbarian (from book to comic to movie and really to me this is/was/will always be just one hell of a movie all around. Just dont get much better and the whole damn cast just well really worked.

Christopher Reeve.

Superman.

Lynda Carter.

Wonder Woman (and wife of Robert A Altman, the Chairman and CEO of Zenimax as well as voice of Mazogah the Orc and many others in Elter Scrolls games)

Nobody else can play these roles now.

Seeing someone else in these roles now... it's like your parent divorced and you're being introduced to the person who broke up the marriage.

Super Hero movies are a genre that has little appeal to me. That said, a fine movie is a fine movie regardless of genre. Back in the day I was quite taken with the Michael Keaton / Kim Basinger "Batman" and bought it on laserdisc almost as soon as it became available. It is, to my knowledge, the only Super Hero film in my home video library. I also rather enjoyed either the first or second Christopher Reeve "Superman Film", maybe both. I thought I might have my favorite of the two on laserdisc. If so I seem to have misplaced it. Oh, I have season one of the old George Reeves "Superman" TV series on DVD. (I prefer Phyllis Coats' Lois Lane over her replacement.) I'm just old enough to have seen that series in its entirely during its initial 1952-58 run, but too young to recall having seen the first couple of seasons except as reruns. I watched much of the old Batman TV series, but even back then it was campy fun not to be taken seriously. I don't think it aged well.

V

Perhaps the most well spoken and eloquent superhero. Apparently the film version is less morally ambiguous than in the comics but since I've never read them it's not an issue for me.

I liked the Watchmen movie despite (?) having read the comic about ten times. Other than that, Iron Man I guess? Big Hollywood movies tend to be so cheesy, superhero movies even more so. That's good sometimes though.

Saw a documentary on 2000AD comic yesterday, they should do a movie of Nemesis or Slaine.

I've never read a comic book so I have nothing to compare the movies to. The only character that really sticks out in my mind at the moment is Lori Petty's Tank Girl. I don't know if she's a "super hero" but I really liked her character in the movie. It's the only comic book movie I've ever been able to watch more than once.

I was thinking you know the first Sin city was actually pretty damn good as well , and Marv was pretty damn memorable (cept I forgot) Mickey rourke is better in Rumblefish (to me I guess people might not like it cause there insane heheh) but he did a fine job here. (again second movie for some reason I just did not like as much)

These are the ones I can't agree with.

Spiderman is probably my all-time favorite comic book super hero, and I thought Garfield was a mis-cast for Peter Parker. Peter is a geek with a wicked, sarcastic sense of humor. I wasn't feeling that from Garfield's performance. He's way too much of a "cool kid," and I just didn't buy him as a "dry wit under pressure" sort of dude. I didn't love McGuire as Parker either, but I thought he was much better suited for it than Garfield.

Hugh Jackman is way too pretty, calm, and polite for Wolverine. He has the look (aside from being a bit too much of a "pretty boy"), but I didn't feel he pulled off the demeanor correctly...not even close. Wolverine is supposed to be rough in appearance, tough-as-nails, foul-tempered, foul-mouthed, and gruff. That said, he'd be a very difficult character to cast if you were looking for a "Hollywood leading man" type. It just doesn't really fit.

I couldn't really feel much of anything about Affleck's Bruce Wayne. In the few scenes that we saw him without the suit on, his performance was almost completely devoid of any kind of personality, IMO.

Anyway, just my opinions.

Oh man finally someone who agrees with me. I was a big fan of Wolverine as a kid and the movies have a weak, watered down version of him.

Don't get me wrong...if someone made X-Men: The Musical then Jackman would be the way to go. :P

1: Melissa Benoist as Supergirl.

2: Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man.

3: Christopher Reeve as Superman.

4: Chris Evans as Captain America.

5: David Harewood as Hank Henshaw/J'onn J'onzz aka Martian Manhunter.

6: Gal Gadot as Diana/Wonder Woman Dawn of Justice.

7: Michael Keaton as Batman. (I might change this up to Ben Affleck after I've seen DoJ).

8: Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

9: Kevin Conroy as the Voice of Batman.

10: Henry Cavill as Superman.

I got the image of the planet of the apes musical from the simpsons, "he can talk?!" "I can siiiiiing!!" "Dr. Zaius! Dr zaius!".

A Hugh jackman musical in that style would be awesome.

Though I too don't think Hugh is the best fit. Wolverine is supposed to be like 5 foot 4 or something, and really thick. He's portrayed as too tall and lean, and doesn't have a harsh gravely enough voice, and also doesn't say bub enough (I noticed they tried to get him to say it more in the recent movies).

Conan is always Arnold Schwarzenegger to me as well.

I really like Micheal fassbender as magneto as well. Magneto has always been my favourite comic book character, and fassbender pulls off the attitude and demeanor well, he's also got a better physique for magneto than Ian mackellan did, but I do wish fassbender looked a bit older or had some grey hair.

Patrick Stewart is obviously the perfect Xavier.

I like both Michael Keaton and Christian bale's Batman. I haven't watched the new one, but I've always disliked Ben affleck, and I always see him as just Ben affleck in any role he does. So I don't imagine I'd like his portrayal. But who knows, I've been wrong before.

Heath ledger's joker was also perfect to me. The guy did 6 months of solitary in a hotel before the shooting of the film, and got so devoted to the role he mentally killed himself, before he inadvertently physically killed himself.

You gotta admire that dedication.
