Your Top 10 Must Have Plugins (Mods+

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 7:36 pm

I just replied to andalaybay in the Imperial Furniture thread and told him that Imperial furniture is one of my top 10 must have mods. That got me to thinking about what other players consider as their top 10 mods they include in every game.

EXCLUDE ANY DLC PLUGINS - Stick to community Mods.

Modsl Like Unique Landscapes or Better Cities that have multiple mods can be treated as one. Same for Arthmoor Villages can be treated as one (instead of 4). Same for travel services from different authors, treat as one. Same for roads and trails.
OK, and ignore UOPs, they are a given. Same for utility mods like Keychain, TQP, etc.

OK, you can decide how to answer the question, nevermind :)

So if interested in posting your opinion, please do share. To get started, these mods are my 10 most important mods I include in every game - although I have some others but if asked to choose the top 10 this is it (do not have to be in order unless you specify so):

Not in any order:
1. OOO
2. AWLS
3. All Natural
4. Unigue Landscapes (I use all of them)
5. Cyrodiil Travel Services and Tamriel Transportation Network - no fast travel, they take you wherever you need to go
6. Companion Vilja - You have to play it for a couple hours to really understand why it is a must have (unless you really want to play solo)
7. MMM
8. COBL
9. New Roads+Bridges, West Roads, Trails of Cyrodiil
10. Enhanced Economy

Everything else changes for me (maybe a few more I use regurarly but these are my top 10 if I could only use 10 in a game).

Again? I should really just cut and paste. ;) No offense meant!

COBL
Fran's
Mart's
Companion Vilja
Viconia
The Underdark
The Armamentarium
Malevolent
The Lost Spires
Less Annoying Magicka Experience

I could easily name another 10. These are just the 10 of 20 or 40 or 60 that I find invaluable. Take that as you will.

I was always weary of using ROM with FCOM. Have you played it extensively and has it worked well with the changes that ROM makes? Any big issues to work around?

Not in any order of favorites, the 10 mods I have used in every play-through in the last few weeks.
1. Pseron Wyrd's Fog, it makes Cyrodil feel much much larger.

3.Supreme Magicka
4.LAME
5.nGCD v2
6.Enhanced Economy
7.Imperial Furniture Renovated
8.HGEC/HGEC Stock armor replacers

Hey, I responded to that topic too! I must be getting too old, losing my memory! But maybe losing memory is a good thing, makes every time I play Oblivion the first time I play Oblivion :)

Do you think I need to get permission from the original poster for modifying their topic without asking permission? :)

:lmao: No worries Peter. A topic is not solemn territory and I know I don't mind. :P I started the thread on TESA. XD I should really update mine. Some changes since way back when. LOL

Here's the list of mods I use with all my characters.

1. http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=3953 by Oscuro, dev_akm, MadCat221.
Not just a 'creature-adding' mod, not just a 'difficulty' mod, not just a 'gameplay-tweaking' mod, Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul is actually one of the finest finest roleplaying mods around. http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=1757 by Martigen, Corepc Dev_Akm Shadowborn is the perfect complement to Oscuro, adding much-needed spontaneity to Oscuro's static world. Crank Martigen's mod all the way up and Oblivion will feel as wonderfully unpredictable as an MMO. These mods are so inseparable to me I count them as one.

2. http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=2764 by, of course, DarN.
This essential mod goes a long way toward making Oblivion's consolized interface useable. Configurable from within the game via a menu. I modify it with one of Luchaire's re-colorings, either http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16387 or http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16897 I also use http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14822 by WillieSea and http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=19063 by Badmagic to enliven the map with color and to replace what I consider to be ugly map markers with more aesthetically pleasing X's.

3. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14065 by tejon, or http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13879 bu ABO.
Two excellent character-levelling mods that do away with stat management, allowing the player to concentrate on roleplaying. Realistic Leveling tends to be the better mod for the more jack-of-all-trades characters or for characters that change during the course of a game. nGCD tends to be the better mod for characters that fit conventional Dungeon-and-Dragons archetypes and never deviate from that during the course of a game.

4. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14304 by tejon.
This mod allows the player to control the speed of advancement of each skill. Easily configurable via an .ini.

5. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7484 by Deathless Aphrodite.
Makes the player lose fatigue when running. When the player's fatigue hits 0 he starts to walk. Also allows the player to sprint for a brief time.

6. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25078 by TheNiceOne.
Using this mod merchants' gold goes up and down with each trade. Also does away with the haggle slider (what a relief!) Allows the player to specify how much gold they recive from looting containers, enemies, as quest rewards, etc. All configurable via .ini.

7. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2037 by Quarn and Dejunai.
Removes flowers from plants after you have picked them. This is a great little visual aid when picking many plants very close together.

8. A merged .esp containing several small tweak mods: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1840 by Woodman, http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=21 by Tandem, http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5138 by Soor, http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5919 by b3w4r3, http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=129 by Talonhoff and http://morrowind4kids.com/pseronwyrd/PWRunSpeed.zip by Pseron Wyrd are a collection of small tweak mods that I cannot bear to play without. Chase Camera Mod is essential to me because I play exclusively in third person and will quickly become nauseous without it; Bethesda went to great lengths to create the illusion of a seamless worl when they made Oblivion and then went and ruined it by spamming messages onto the player's screen everytime they enter a new cell, and No Load gets rid of that; Initial Glow gets rid of what I consider to be a very ugly 'plastic wrap' enchantment effect; Sleep Rest Wait Any Time, because no game has any business telling me when I can sleep, or where; No Psychic Guards tones down guards' clairvoyance a little bit; Run Speed Tweak slows down the base running/walking speed of the game to Morrowind's running/walking speeds.

9. http://morrowind4kids.com/pseronwyrd/PW_MorrowindFog.zip by Pseron Wyrd.
To me Oblivion's near-infinite view distance is unbearably ugly and it also makes Cyrodiil feel smaller than it ought to. This is my attempt to simulate Morrowind's fog. It also incorporates some of the RBG values of Natural Weather. Combined with Run Speed Tweak Cyrodiil feels as large and wonderfully mysterious as Vvardenfell once did.

10. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16513 by Bananasplit, Wolfslady, Reckless, SilentResident, Nernie, Vorians and Ismelda.
The way the cities of Tamriel should have looked. Spend hours wandering around like a tourist, awestruck at how different (and gorgeous) everything looks. Comes in modular form - you can choose to redo all of Cyrodiil's cities or just one. It's your choice. When I'm not using Better Cities I use a wall-less version of Arthmoor's http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1019807, which tranfers the vanilla cities into the Cyrodiil worldspace, ala Morrowind. Wonderful for those of us who love to ride horses through town.

Wow, there is quite a bit of variety. You can easily tell a player's game "style", probably not the right word. I don't know what to call an FCOM based game which is about combat or a Hentai type game that is more about visuals. Ambiance, feel, configuration, I am at a loss for the right word.

Amazing that I have gotten more ideas of mods to try from these responses than looking at other lists. But maybe becaus the question was mine and the responses are pretty specific. Thanks to everyone so far :tops:

You will love Vilja mod, As easy to install as any other mod, don't need any other resources. Lost Spires I think is still one of the top 3 quest mods ever made (the quests are very well made and challenging). COBL adds alot of ingredients, very nifty for the alchemist. Kvatch rebuilt is great and bonus of having option to be the count of Kvatch and living in the castle. For installation, BAIN (part of Wrye Bash) is the way to go but OBMM works just fine too :)

To be more clear I alternate with them =p I don't run them all together, it would kind of ruin ROM/ WAC / FCOM to slam them into each other, but I never play without one of them

The usual list of quality mods.

I'm not going to give 10, but:-
Firstly, I endorse the Bashed Patch as an essential mod.
Secondly, Wrye Morph.

An excellent little quest and actually holds my interest. At least I can do all the faction quests (few though they are) without the Head of the Mages Guild also being the Master thief!

Just ten? Ummm...I'll try to narrow it down. :P

- Unofficial Patches + supplemental updates.
- COBL
- Kvatch Rebuilt
- Curseman's Anti-Extinction Mod (fixes the  leveled enemies system in exteriors and Oblivion worlds, so wolves, boars, and scamps don't suddenly go extinct when you hit a certain level)
- LAME
- Unique Landscapes (all of them)
- nGCD
- ImpeREAL City - Unique Districts
- Kragenir's Death Quest
- some sort of body replacement mod. I'm still trying them all out and haven't picked a favorite yet, though at the moment I'm fond of UFF for female characters. Robert's is my go-to for male characters though.
