Morrowind: Regularly

Crusader Kings: Currently playing CK2 which overall is an improvement on 1

Europa Universalis: Haven't got EU2 out in a year or so, didn't like 3 much, own 4 but playing too much CK2 to play it much

King of Dragon Pass: Regularly. My current pc will run it off the disc and saves games fine but won't install it so I can't use the patch

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri: Regularly

Colonisation: Didn't like the remake and don't have a floppy disc drive anymore so can't play this

Sid Meier's Pirate Gold: Ocasionally, the remake rather than the original

Dragon Age Origins: Tried to recently but my DVD drive won't recognise the disc anymore

Fallout New Vegas: Playing atm

Skyrim: Taking a rest as over 3000 hours in 18 months burnt me out

Neverwinter Nights: Wasn't that keen on 2, haven't played 1 for a year or

Civilisation (especially II & IV): Play 4 ocasionally, more often than I do 5 or Beyond Earth which were both disappointing

My top ten pick? Well, going by mechanics, modability, vanilla's strength, and a lot of other things... Here's mine (currently).

1. Rock Band 3

- Honestly, RB3 isn't my favorite game to play but it is the only game that I love to play which is basically just overall perfect for what it is. Really, the only way someone can actually complain about this game is that it's a music game, and they don't like that genre. That's the only complain anyone can have. (The only other possible complaint was of a bad glitch which could cause the game to crash but Harmonix fixed that already).

2. Halo 1-3

- I'm just bundling the three together honestly because by themselves, they wouldn't be on the list. But altogether, they make the best video game trilogy I've ever played while still having a great gameplay and highly fun multiplayer. I mean, Gears of War and Mass Effect also were great trilogies but Halo was my favorite and they deserve to stay together. (Honestly, same thing with Gears of War and Mass Effect).

3. Morrowind

- Despite the annoyances in the vanilla-based game, Morrowind is the most memorable and fun RPG game I have ever played thus far in my life. With mods, it is by far the BEST RPG game ever (mind you, with mods though. So it doesn't count too much bonus points for it).

4. Fallout: New Vegas

- Very great game as well. Great factions, a good story, great things to do, and so on. There's some issues here and there but overall it's a great game. Also, bonus points for having a good modding community as well.

5. Skyrim

- May have a poor main story but the game overall is still amazingly fun and still has plenty of other strengths. It also did some new great things with magic, which I did honestly enjoyed because it made magic more interesting and good to use. Plus Hearthfire is best house DLC ever. I hope Bethesda keeps the "Hearthfire" idea.

6. Minecraft

- Basically, it does what it should do (though over time, I feel it has gained unnecessary updates) but it's still fun. I personally hadn't updated my PC version of the game for a long time due to the mods I love are not longer being updated, and they outweigh the official updates for myself. So bonus points for the modding community but subtract points for poor updates.

7. Fallout 3

- Overall, great game. Story is a little meh in it and some overall issues throughout the game. However, this was Bethesda's first attempt at Fallout so I'm fine with that. They still manage to do amazing job though with the wasteland.

8. Team Fortress 2

- Honestly, this game could easily be higher but it still lacks some key elements while also having it's own annoyance. However, overall... Definably the best FPS experience I have ever had and has an amazing modding community, hands down.

9. Spyro

- Honestly, nostalgia reasons... I grew up playing Spyro. His first adventure was my first game (back when I was like barely 3). So ye'h... Nostalgia. The game itself is still great for kids though and honestly, if I ever have kids. I'm going to let them try the little purple guy.

10. RuneScape

- As much I would love to dislike Jagex and some of the changes they have done... They still manage to do enough right with this game to make me do check-ups on it and continue working on the game's world. Honestly, this game what really got me into RPGs, lore, and all that fun stuff (rather than just playing the game randomly and doing stupid stuff). So ye'h... I believe it deserves a mention.

Ah, I remember Runescape.

I started playing it around 2005, but I don't remember when I stopped. One thing I liked about it was the music, collecting runes and going to highly populated areas just to see the people chatting and trading :)

The music is always lovely. I enjoy it myself and some of my favorite video game tracks are from RuneScape. As for myself, I started in 2006.

I am curious about the modability. Not picking on you, but I find myself wondering what makes the games great. Is it the actual game? Is it the mods players create? Or maybe there is a bit of both?

The reason I ask is, for example, Skyrim. Lots of players who praise Skyrim seem to have loads of mods and base their opinion on the mods, not the base game that Bethesda released.

However, if one looks at a game like Neverwinter Nights 1, the base game is quite good and has some really creative mods available. So I am just curious how much weight you give to modability

Basically, if the game can be modded and how well the modding community is with the said game. Not the mods themselves.

I tend to lean toward games which can be modded and does have a valid healthy modding community a lot. However, I still rate the game by itself and never rate it WITH MODS installed. Just that it has the ability and such.

The weight isn't much but it is enough to make me love or just simply like a game.

I once tried those two games, but I didn't like the game engine so I stop playing.

If it's what it is then I have it and it's on CD/DVD, so if you still want to try it then look for it in your local game store and it's cheap.

That makes a lot sense. Kind of the way I see it, too. I enjoy games that can be modded more, it seems, than games that can not be. And like you said, a lot depends on the modding community :)

Not in single player. The OC is dull, one of the worst Bioware ever created, and the henchmen mechanics were a disappointment. I feel that mods (and multiplayer) have had an even bigger impact on people's interest in this game over the years than in Skyrim. Skyrim has a thriving mod-free console community, after all. Or maybe it's just my interest, seeing how much I dislike both NWN games...

Theres a difference between the types of mods. Most mods for NWN add content. Those that change mechanics generally try and make it more like pnp D&D. With TES the modding community tends to go a lot further in what it changes. Since no game is perfect and peoples tastes differ I think it a big positive to have a series with an active modding community.

That's your opinion. I loved it. The first time I finished it I started a second game the same day. I've never done that with any other game.

In fact NWN is the game that got me into roleplaying. Morrowind had come out the month before, and I'd liked it, but I didn't know what roleplaying was and played it like a first-person shooter. NWN inspired me to try roleplaying for the first time in my life. In that second game I started a Paladin who had idolized Aribeth since girlhood. She was in the academy because of to be closer to her idol. She even saved up gold she couldn't really afford to buy a ring that once belonged to Aribeth.

*shrugs* Tastes differ. NWN 1 is my favorite Bioware game.

Good point. I tend agree that a healthy modding community is a huge plus for many games :)

Thanks for that. I was feeling strange not playing my list as much as many others shared.

01) Master of Magic - 2 or 3 times a year

02) SW:KotOR I - maybe once a year. Currently playing it :)

03) Morrowind - Tried it a few times in the last 2 or 3 years. I never get far.

04) Fallout 3 - Just got last December do I still play it. However, the game crashes so much I have finished it once, quit my second one, and am about to quit my latest playthrough.

05) Madden NFL - Still play it a few times a month in Franchise Mode.

06) Ticket to Ride - On my X-Box 360 so do not play much.

07) Empire Builder - No longer play as I lost the game.

08) SW:KotOR II - Have not played in 3 or 4 years. Planning to play it after my current SW:KotOR 1 game.

09) SW: Jedi Academy - Have not played in years.

10) Arx Fatalis - Have not played in years.

This is one of the best games ever made and I was super surprised when I discovered it few years back. I had no idea how good it was.

That learning curve. I thought the game was hard when I played the first mission. I restarted to find out the game was now super easy because I had become a BADASS squad leader.

That team dynamism.
That characterization and atmosphere.
And that fx. Its graphics are surprisingly cool for an old game but unfortunately a bit broken nowadays.

It is not in my top 10 but that's because the place is very crowded. Great choice.

PS. Interesting, I thought both GRAW and Vegas were better than their lackluster sequels. I thought GRAW was an exceptionally realistic game, I think it still is.

I would still play RC if I wanted to set up my old system for it. I decided to let my fond memories sit in though. I remember having to recall some of the squad to make sure that they did their designated Roles in the designated zones. I wasn't about to let my demo guy do a Sniper post when Sev was still up to the the task. lol. BTW, my avatar here is the Leader from that game. :D

I like Vegas 2 for it's innovation. It allowed for me the player to create a character that was mine in a shooter, not just an RPG, which is something we almost take for granted now, or at least is one of my deciding factors in getting a new game. While both GRAW's were great, I enjoyed the sequel more, or maybe it was that I played it a bit more. Both were good though.

Dark Souls (PC)

Battlefield 3 (360)

Morrowind (PC)

Fallout (PC)

Castlevania (NES)

Tales of Symphonia (GC)

Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones (GBA)

Super Metroid (SNES)

Donkey Kong Country (SNES)

I have a lot of great memories from each and every one. I've played all of them in the past 1-2 years, so it's not just nostalgia speaking.
