Your very first game

Post » Tue Mar 15, 2011 3:30 am

Very first? Well I have memories of Reader Rabbit and Putt Putt Goes To The Moon...but I also keep coming back to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlqQUtKnw5w as one of the first games I ever played on computer. It was an interesting game, all a mix of puzzles, choose your own adventure, and live action graphics and movie clips from some recent Jungle Book movie. Even had this little microphone that they tried to make you imitate chimpanzee sounds into as an alternate to most puzzles.

the Mario Bros/Duck hunt bundle

^

Had a little 12" TV to play on my mom picked up at a garage sale. Still remember having to be the Coolest kid by having Mario Bros, Megaman, Yo Noid, etc... . Was such a Nintendo fan I even got the Power Glove when it came out which was funny. The B button if I remember correctly was the middle finger.

Some weird game with Elmo chasing a blanket through all these different levels for Game Boy Color. That game was so epic.

It was either Star Wars: Rebel Assault or Rogue Squadron waaay back in the '90s.

This paved the way for me to become a nerd with a soft spot for anything in a galaxy far, far away. That and watching the original three Star Wars movies as a kid over and over again. It sooo beat watching Barney when I was 5. :P

The very first ones were on a console I bought in the Netherlands in the summer 1980. I forgot the make, I think Tandy but not sure. There was a tennis, a squash, a football and a car race. Very very basic as you can imagine.
Then in 1982, I bought my ZX81 and the real first game I had on a computer was a game I programmed from a book: a ball (a dot on the screen) had to be guided to enter 'a basket'.
The first real game I got was a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvY4roVg7YQ.
Then I have to say that there was also the 1st 3D game, still on ZX81, I think it was 3D Asteroid or something like that from Ere Informatique.

The first games that really hooked me, apart from the ZX81 flight simulator was Lord of Midnight on Atmos. The game was really amazing. Elite got me hooked as well.

Zelda - a Link to the Past.

If you mean the first game I didn't have to share, though, then that would be Morrowind.

My father believed in computers at a time when they were not the norm outside of schools yet, were terribly expensive, and the Internet was still about a decade away. I love him for that.

My first game was... Either Zaxxon or Mixed Up Mother Goose. Good fun.

Though the game that undoubtedly set me on my future gaming path was The Secret of Monkey Island... One of my first, and STILL one of the best, with not a trace of nostalgia. It was all in the humor and storytelling.

Halo 1 : Combat Evolved. No doubt it changed my life, I wouldn't have gotten into videogames without it.
