Consuming too much potassium may lead to heart problems and or death.

I did not know this O_O how much would one have to consume, I wonder. Not that I'm thinking of OD'ing on potassium. Just curious.

You can't actually OD on potassium naturally. (Like eating too many bananas). You'll feel full and probably throw up before you reach that point. That passage was probably written for people with a serious potassium deficiency who need to take pills for it. In that case, I guess more than the prescribed dosage would cause you to OD.

Yes you can, certain blood pressure medications are potassium sparing, and those people taking it must watch their potassium intake carefully as not to risk hyperkalemia (excess potassium). There are also certain medical conditions which warrant careful intake of potassium. Left untreated, both hyper -kalemia and hypo-kalemia (potassium deficiency) can result in death.

For your acid reflux, OP, I suggest over the counter antacid tablets, such as store brand or generic Tums.

Huh. You'd think my doctor would have told me this when he put me on my blood pressure medication, instead of just "if you start passing out when you get up, take less of them." I'm trying to use Google to tell me about my meds in relation to potassium, so naturally, Google isn't working for me. The forums work fine. I hate dial-up.
Next time mum tries to force feed me bananas when I'm home on holiday, I'm going to tell her she's trying to kill me.

Google the exact name of the medication you take, it should say in the prescribing information of the medication's website whether or not is is potassium sparing.
Potassium sparing means you don't excrete it in your urine like you normally would.
If your doctor thought it was an issue, he would have mentioned it.

Odds are, if you belch the "taste" of a food more than an hour or two after ingesting it, you are intolerant to one or more of the ingredients in said food. A food intolerance is the body's inability to properly digest certain foods, and belching the "taste" is just one of many symptoms. The best way to combat this is to get a hold of a good digestive enzyme in capsule form (can be found in health food stores, most large chain grocers, GNC, etc.) and take them when you start belching the "taste." If it combats the problem, it's a good bet that you are intolerant to said food, and should eat it sparingly, or not at all.

Forcing yourself to vomit is pretty extreme IMO. Your body will naturally throw up if you have ingested something toxic/you are sick. Forced vomiting will not help you. In the future, I suggest you drink green or honey tea to cleanse the bad taste and rest. Sleeping accelerates the natural healing process.

Ah, this is news to me. Thank you Dr. Mamagato. :)

But it's impossible to overdose on potassium under normal circumstances, right? If you have no problems, and are just an average Joe taking a stroll down to the fruit market; eating a banana on the way back won't make you drop dead, will it?

Yes, too much salt intake makes you throw up. It can be a bad thing, or it can be a good thing, depending on the situation.

Bad if you do it for no good reason.

Good if you were poisoned or nauseated or something.

Oooh okay , I wasn't aware of the exact outcome of what too much salt can do to you, but, everything has been settled, and I believe this thread can R.I.P.

*Cue Mods*

Thanks :3
