I think they only die permanently if you delt damage to them... So be careful with splash damage spells, and close combat. Even if my compainon goes down, I finish the battle and then heal them. Maybe, Ive just been lucky though.

Ive never seen a companion die unless the player hits them. Even the guide says they cant die unless you deal the final blow.

I have had folowers (that is the technical term in the game, companions are a faction) die. not often. usually a hostile leaves them barely alive, but if the hostile does massive damage, it can kill them. also, I accindentally killed kharjo twice. RELOAD.

Lydia has died while questing with me several times without me dealing the final blow. Often enmies will already have begun an attack when she takes a knee and that will finish them, so will traps, and giants....

Holy s*** this is how she died with me. I took her there intent on her being killed cos she was so annoying

I use fireball a lot...... A LOT..... I constantly have to play quake 3-style and shoot near enemies' feet and on one side of them to avoid hitting friends with the explosion. I've killed 3 or 4 companions with the explosion at this point.

Yes, I love when he said that. I told him he doesn't have to be jealous, he can just be by my side. We can fight together, mix potions together, through day and night. Then we're tired and exhausted back at the room in the college (that room you get at the end of mage quest line, yeah) and just fall on the bed, so tired, then J'Zargo comes up to me all sly and grabs mWHOA! I dunno where I was going with that but yeah... J'Zargo is awesome.

If you are playing on PC this is easy to fix...

1: Press "§" button to open console "I dont know if this is the button for nordic folk only but anyways..."

2: Click on his dead corpse so it's choosen.

3: Just type "Resurrect" in the Console and he will be....back! Risen from the..... DEAD!!
