ZeniMax Media Inc. opens up a new studio in Montreal

Post » Mon Dec 14, 2015 4:30 am

ZeniMax Media Inc. and Bethesda Softworks have opened up a new studio in Montreal it seems.

There's some unknowns too.

We don't know if it's a expansion to Bethesda Game Studios to develop Bethesda Game Studios type of video games. maybe The Elder Scrolls VI? Maybe Fallout 5?

Maybe it's a studio to develop The Elder Scrolls VI, while Bethesda Game Studios develops Fallout 4's DLC's and expansion packs to release for sale and releases the patches?

Or maybe it's to develop more video games for ZeniMax Media Inc. to publish? Like Dishonored, Wolfenstein, The Evil Within, and so on?

Here it is for you to read.

Thanks a lot for that link. People have been saying for years that Bethesda should split into two teams. This is very interesting.

It seems like the pcgamer.com employees or at least on of them thing it is definitely a split for Bethesda Game Studios from the activities the he, she, they? Have been seeing. And one of the pcgamer.com employees does attend a lot of Bethesda Softworks events like QuakeCon, E3, etc.

Then there is also the pcgamer.com article talking about the Fallout 4 mods. I didn't entirely catch it though.

This is also what I'm wondering. Since Chris Avellone left Obsidian Entertainment, what if ZeniMax Media Inc. and Bethesda Softworks opened up this studio for Bethesda Game Studios to have a split team to develop two Bethesda Game Studios type of video games simultaneously and release Fallout video games and The Elder Scrolls video games faster.

So ZeniMax Media Inc., Bethesda Softworks, and Bethesda Game Studios released Fallout 4 for sale in 2015, DLC's and expansion packs for sale in 2016 and in 2017. In 2018 Bethesda Montreal or Bethesda Game Studios Montreal releases The Elder Scrolls VI for sale and Bethesda Game Studios releases Fallout 5 in 2020 for sale?

What if this is to get video games released for sale faster instead of every 3 years, 4 years or 5 years?

I know I would be very happy as long as it lives up to Bethesda Game Studios standards and feels like a video game that has been developed for 5 years, minus the features Bethesda Game Studios removes.

Also what if ZeniMax Media Inc. and Bethesda Softworks secretly hired or are in the process of hiring Chris Avellone for the writing?

A few years ago they opened up a new studio in Austin, Texas and what is that studio working with? http://www.gamesas.com/forum/272-battlecry-general-discussion/, not Elder Scrolls or Fallout. I think it's the same thing here, the Montreal studio will work on something of their own, not Elder Scrolls or Fallout.

Err 2018 for TES 6 sounds LONGER to release than any of the other 5. Remember Skyrim turns 5 next year.

Well there is no way The Elder Scrolls VI releases for sale in 2016, 2016 belongs to Fallout 4 for it's DLC's, expansion packs, and patches. Even 2017 I don't think, there's just no way for the size these video games developed by Bethesda Game Studios develops are 2018 most likely and maybe 2019 is when The Elder Scrolls VI releases for sale.

Unless this new studio will help with faster development of having 2 teams at 2 studios working simultaneously to develop the Fallout video games and The Elder Scrolls video games instead of both at the same time at the same studio and I think this is the case because 2019 is just too far away for The Elder Scrolls VI.

Even if it means a totally new IP, if it's a Bethesda style open world game developer I'll be a happy clam. It looks like it will be an RPG focused studio. Just have to wait and see what's up. :)

Its official: The new studio isn't just some studio under 'Bethesda', but 'Bethesda Game Studios Montreal': https://www.facebook.com/BethesdaSoftworks.eu/photos/a.668774946507471.1073741836.595123287205971/1076906892360939/?type=3

My guess and hope is that each studio will be working on a different game, either TES or Fallout, so the amount of time between each Elder Scrolls and each Fallout is less. Because the usual 5 to 8 years to see a new game for each series has been too much.

YES! I was expecting it to be a Bethesda Game Studios split team studio.

Or as you call it a division of the Bethesda Game Studios branch.

So I think this probably confirms that they will be developing The Elder Scrolls VI or Fallout 5, while Bethesda Game Studios Maryland works on developing Fallout 4 it's DLC's, expansion packs, and patches.

I also think a brand new Intellectual Property (IP) will be developed after Fallout 4 at Bethesda Game Studios Maryland because Todd Howard was it earlier this year? He said he wants to work on developing a new video game. He said he wants to try something fresh and new or something like that.

Todd Howard needs the break from developing The Elder Scrolls video games and Fallout video games. He needs his creative freedom to run wild.

I just read the Bethesda.net announcement Todd Howard was the one who said to make it happen. This is so awesome and amazing at the same time.

The longest gap between TES titles was 6 years between DF and MW and that was before they were developing Fallout too.

I'm confused why I was quoted? I know their release dates for the sale of their video games.

I don't expect The Elder Scrolls VI to get released for sale in 2017 at all maybe 2018 or if who know what happens in 2019.

Unless this new Bethesda Game Studios studio gets put on developing The Elder Scrolls VI. Or they might be developing Fallout 5 or helping with Fallout 4's development.

I wish for him to express all of his creative ideas. But I want TES (and Fallout) games to come out more frequently.

Yup, but how long was it from Fallout 3 to 4 ?

Don't worry with this new Bethesda Game Studios new Fallout video games and The Elder Scrolls video games should come out faster, but video game developers get burnt out developing sequels, prequels, and spin-offs of video games after 10 years and 20 years of developing them.

Todd Howard said himself he wants to do something new.

I want lots of Fallout video games and The Elder Scrolls video games to be developed and released for sale faster, not as fast as Call of Duty every year though, every 3 years is fine, 5 years is fine too, even 2 years if possible with this new Bethesda Game Studios.

But I want to see something new and I'm pretty sure you want to see something new as well see what else Bethesda Game Studios can develop in their type of video game.

I want to see a sci-fi space type of video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios with the way they develop The Elder Scrolls video games, but to also have spacecraft to fly in space. Or a cyberpunk type of video game like the Deus Ex video games or Cyberpunk 2077 developed by CD Projekt RED.

Or a medieval video game on a realistic historic medieval time from our time with no fantasy seeing the Roman empire, the British empire, the Vikings, the Chinese dynasties, the Japanese and the Samurai.

quote from the bethesda.net article.

The guy specifically mentions the kind of games BGS are known for, so more TES/FALLOUT style open world rpg hopefully.

I think 40 people is to small for a BGS style game. Maybe they just mean BGS level of quality or design principles, not necessarily big open world game. Maybe it's Prey 2. But could also be two studios working on the same game at once, splitting the tasks for more efficiency, like hard disks in raid :hehe:

I think that would be a waste of talent for Yves Lachance.

That was Bethesda Softworks though, and the studio in question is "Battlecry Studios" if I recall correctly. This new studio is actually under the Bethesda Game Studios banner.

Of course we don't know what kinds of games BGS Montreal will be making at this point in time, though. They could be looking at making smaller titles like with Fallout Shelter, or they might be looking at doing the kinds of open world RPGs that Todd Howard's team does, or they could be doing something else entirely as well. There is also the possibility that the Montreal studio was formed to help the Maryland studio with their next game.

If BGS Montreal is going to be focused on open world RPGs like BGS Maryland, then it does bring up some rather interesting speculation. For example, we've known for awhile that BGS' next game might not be TES VI with Pete Hines even going as far as saying that himself, yet Pete Hines has not denied the possibility of TES VI happening at some point AFAIA, just that it's going to be a long time before there's a major announcement that isn't related to ESO. Then I think there's also been rumors (not confirmed, though) that BGS plans on having another open world RPG Fallout spin off made in order to keep the release gap between Fallout games from being too great, and with Yves Lachance having previously worked on Fallout Shelter, it would sort of make sense if he did a Fallout game even if they are in Montreal. There's also the possibility of a new IP.

We'll have to wait and see what happens with this. There's no need to start up a hype train over what the Montreal studio means for BGS that'll almost inevitably derail, crash and burn when it isn't what people expected. They are vague about the details of what exactly BGS Montreal is going to be doing (it doesn't seem clear at this point if they're even going to be working on their own projects separate from the MD studio), but BGS is pretty much always tight-lipped about most things they do.

For me it's really great news :foodndrink: regardless what their plan is, be it a second team to engage either TES or Fallout so both get faster dev cycles, be it two teams working on different parts of the same game, be it a new IP in the BGS style, be it spin-offs for the TES series, I'm very excited about this.

There are a ton of studios in Montreal. Bethesda made a solid choice.

Wonder if they are working on Elder Scrolls Legends - which is listed under support for games on Bethesda.Net but nowhere else

With Fallout Shelter being such a huge money spinner having a mobile division really makes sense

Finally Todd Howard read my signature and took action :frog:

40 is enough to get a big project started though, while Bethesda Maryland is busy with Fallout 4 dlcs.

Whatever it is, there is a chance for it to be really good.

Open World Pirates RPG anybody?

I doubt they would be moving TES up North to a secondary studio. That would be like Rockstar North moving the GTA IP to Rockstar San Diego. Just doesn't make much sense. If anything, I could see them starting on TES basics but once BGS moves on from FO4 they'll take over, and then BGSM can get started on either a new IP, or continue stuff for FO4 and FO5. Or even better yet: a sequel to FONV (I know that it was made by Obsidian). Essentially splitting the US in two for the two studios.

Whatever they do, I'm looking forward to hearing about their first project. Speaking of which, how long did it take for us to be told about ESO after ZOS opened up?

That would be a bummer. I enjoy the mobile platform games, but only as a sideshow so-to-speak. Business-wise though, it makes perfect sense since those types of games are becoming more and more profitable.
