ZeniMax should buy Crytec

Post » Sat May 14, 2011 8:14 pm

After viewing the thread about 6 new images from the Game Reactor magazine, someone posted that the engine in itself (CryEngine 3) doesn't make the game look like Crysis 2. Fair point, must mean that it's the talents at CryTec that has managed to make it all look so freakishly good. But again, they don't know how to make games and Bethesda does. So, ZeniMax should buy CryTec! :foodndrink:

Think about it, CryTec should use all of their talents to make the graphics and everything in the engine fantastic. And Bethesda could focus on the game itself, making it fantastic.
This is basically what we're all hoping for anyways. A game that's made by Bethesda but looks like Crysis :)

Nah. Bethesda does a good job on their games. When Oblivion came out, it looked amazing. Same for Morrowind. Skyrim will be no different.

Well, although Crysis is a good game, its by no way as deep as Oblivion and Morrowind so I think we'd have to wait double the time if we wanted crysis graphics AND the deep gameplay TES offers. :sadvaultboy:

But if only....

What I mean is, Bethesda are known for the depth of their games. CryTec is.. well, not :P
I'm no fan of mindless shooters and see no art in it directly. There are exceptions however. But Bethesda makes games that's got the depth I'm looking for.

And no, Oblivion did not look great when it came and Skyrim won't look great either. It will look fine, just fine. But not über awesome like we're dreaming about.

I'm not. I'd prefer a larger world with far more stuff to do, places to go and so on than a smaller world that looks like Crysis.

A better business decision would probably be to license technology from Crytec. There are too many differences between the companies and their customer bases.

If not buy it, at least learn their engine optimization ways. Crysis 2 having more image quality than Crysis + less required resources should be the norm.

but if it does *buying stocks* crap it isn't publicly traded
I guess zenimax would be bigger than crytek though

Did you get what this thread was about? If ZeniMax bought CryTec that would leave ALL of Bethesdas talents to build the world and the game itsef. While Crytec focus on the engine stuff.

How good is CryEngine at handling large open areas (Crysis is divided into levels with loading times in between), can the AI keep track of 3000 NPCs at the same time and so on?

Also, Zenimax already bought iD Software, and they sure know how to make a good game engine too, but Skyrim won't use iD Tech 5 anyway as it's more suited for shootery games rather than TES.

If Bethesda got CryEngine, they would have to spend a lot of time customize it for their needs.

Yes I'm aware of that. But I don' buy the whole "Tech 5 isn't suited for open world games" argument. That's merely a programming issue and as you're saying, customize issue.
Carmack is a genious and could very well tweak Tech 5 to be used in games like TES and Fallout.

CryTec is amazing at shaders and gaming technology. And that's the tech that Bethesda should be using to make the most out of their games.

You haven't even seen the Creation Engine in action yet.
I'm sure Bethesda is pretty much able to do their engine with all the optimizations needed for a game like Skyrim (e.g. the havok animation).

Selam! Here is another Turk :) Crytek is a great company and so is TaleWorlds (Producer of mount&blade). I don't think Yerli brothers would want to sell the company to anyone but a TES game with Crytek engine would be awesome!

This exactly. It seems like what most people actually want is the open world sandbox world of TES but with the graphic fidelity of the CryEngine. Currently there is no engine I know of capable of that. The Rage engine looks great and I was under the impression the Rage game was going to be open world as well, though I could be mistaken. I think once games hit that point we're going to be in the "next gen" era.

Perhaps TES 6 might take advantage of some of that Rage tech though hehe....either that or we'll all just be jacking into our virtual reality world ala the Matrix :P
