I have no time to kiss your inexperienced-in-the-mmo-field asses, Zenimax. I'm jumping right in the instant action with the hopes that you're not adopting a sunk-costs investment policy in which I HIGHLY SPECULATE YOU ARE. I'm a long-time veteran mmo player with more than 10 years of dedicated experience on every popular title you can conjure but above all, I am a MASSIVE Elder Scrolls fan. I'm not claiming or enforcing that my opinion is better than anyone else's either. I'm here to voice many of the concerns that you seem to be ignoring or downplaying intentionally to hide behind the NDA to secure sales via deception and discreetness.
No Open Beta - This is INCREDIBLY suspicious to many of us; thousands of us I dare say. The game debuts its retail launch in less than 2 months and it's still heavily restricted and covered by the NDA. I have but one question as do thousands more: Why is there no open beta? What reason is there for this? Thousands of other players are waiting to test the game or try the game and they will not be able to, ever. As a result, you are relying on that your game isn't possibly tarnished by leaks or footage, again, to secure sales. THIS IS NOT A SMEAR CAMPAIGN.
Combat Animation(s) - slow, sluggish, terrible latency behind them and potentially game-breaking. Abilities and the way they queue in combat are slow and often cause a brief pause between you and a hostile NPC in which you stare at each other until an animation has finished OR the terrible combat animations cause awkward character gliding and pivoting.
Public Dungeons - What were you thinking? So, now people get to go spelunking in MY dungeons and loot my potential epic chest..? OK, for real, here's the entirety of my beef on that choice: All of the main quests seem centered around public areas in which players SWARM by the dozens on dozens on dozens and utterly annihilate everything that can be tabbed hostile in a matter of seconds. This results in me being able to complete many, many, many quests by simply walking up to the objective NPC and pressing "E". All lootable objects are shared in this case. NO. If I wanted to share with random players, I'd invite them come along. (Public dungeons ARE NOT the dungeons you'll be doing in a group to defeat bosses and obtain loot.)
Lied about hybrid playstyle - Same old talent tree from every mmo that will NO DOUBT enforce cookie-cutter builds come endgame as in not every class can work as a hybrid playstyle. For instance, Nightblade with a restoration staff or abilities invested into staves...what? That's about as useful as trying to burn fire with fire.
NO ENDGAME RAIDS - Have the articles, can't post them.
PRE-ORDER BONUS = all races playable to any faction - ...What? Doesn't that defeat the entire concept of HAVING FACTIONS? I mean, that's self-defeating right there and basically just makes the game mean less to me. Next to that definition is a .jpeg of ESO.
PRE-ORDER FOR IMPERIAL BONUS - Again..what? Do I even need to expand on this after the massive public backlash from the fans? I can began posting all of those articles that I'm sure your fans would love to read.
NOTE: I AM NOT HERE TO SPREAD MISINFORMATION OR SMEAR ZENIMAX OR BETHESDA IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM. I am regurgitating information that is being suppressed intentionally or just being posted in the incorrect places.
The beta felt lackluster, and, despite what you may think, it wasn't because of your graphics (which I found utterly beautiful BY THE WAY), it's because you're delivering to us a single-player RPG experience with multiplayer capabilities and then enforcing a sub, wait, WAIT, here's the part most fans DON'T KNOW, upon launch, they are releasing MICROTRANSACTIONS! So, me having a degree in business, let me see. Sounds like you plan for the eventual failure of the games subscription module and are planning to use the microtransactions as a bailout once the game drops to f2p.
Matt Firor was quoted: There are no raids, after all – "That's not Elder Scrolls," says Game Director Matt Firor – but there are four-man dungeons and three-faction open PvP with sieges in the beleaguered province of Cyrodiil.
Again, I'm not here to bash, there's a lot more. I wanted to get feedback from the community before I listed the many more problems Zenimax will choose to ignore. All I can say is if you refuse to listen to your fans and those concerned enough to post feedback, you'll tarnish the next Elder Scrolls title and create a massive level of apprehension in buying future products. You'll have become BioWare or EA and no one wants that.
