Zero Punctuation

Post » Thu Oct 07, 2010 1:59 am

For anyone who has seen this video game critic internet sensation, then you will automatically know that he is a god and his word is law. But which game do you think he did the most justice upon when criticizing and which was the funniest?

For those who are unfamiliar with his work....go to the escapistmagazine.com and be wary of colourful language

The game that he was totally on the money about was Call of Duty 4

The Funniest review was his Arkham Asylum one :D

The rules about linking to sites with profanity are pretty clear. It's fine to put the link back in providing you use a link redirect (listed in the rules) or you may link to the Escapist itself.

I thought his funniest was the Wolfenstein review done in limerick.

The guy's so consistently hilarious, I couldn't possibly pick a favorite.

His review of New Vegas was the funniest, he didn't really bother to talk about the game directly, he just took us through his first playthrough, and it mirrored mine so much it was just too funny.

"at the next town I met a kind elderly couple who let me drink out of their toilet".

I'm not particularly impressed with his reviews

Most of the time I don't find them entertaining nor helpful in deciding what game to buy.

Overall, IMO, he's an [censored]

"at the next town I met a kind elderly couple who let me drink out of their toilet".

that is easily one of my favorite quotes from him, another one is from his darksiders review
"this guy is a complete [censored], he's got the power of a god and just sit around and mopes all day. If I were him I'd be going mad with the power
LOOK AT ME EVERYONE I'M A GOD, I HAVE COMPLETE POWER OVER YOUR SOULS.
I'M A MONSTER TRUCK THAT WALKS LIKE A MAN!
I'D BE SQUIRTING MACHISMO OUT OF MY [censored] nipbleS!"

that made me laugh out loud

to the above: you're not supposed to take his reviews seriously, I believe he even admitted that he enjoys most of the games he rags on, save a select few that are obviously bad. He's pure comedy value, you wouldn't use him for a constructive review on the quality of the game.

oh and the whole point of the show is he's supposed to be a jerk, he even explained this several times in multiple interviews. His whole vision on Zero Punctuation was to parody the elitist gamer who thinks he's hot stuff because he reviews games. His whole spiel is satire.

Fair enough. In my opinion, you are sorely misguided and miss the point if Zero Punctuation. You aren't supposed to take his reviews seriously, they only put games into perspective. A funny one.

His reviews are no where near helpful if you are actually considering picking up a game, they are however hilarious. If like Peter Griffens "Grinds My Gears" but for games.

Exactly. He could make the greatest game of all time sound like a pile of garbage. The entire point of his "reviews" is to be a cynical bastard with a great sense of humor.

I try not to take any of them seriously because sometimes he attacks games I like but still most of them are hilarious.

I know what the point is of his reviews are

Him being an [censored] doesn't make his reviews funny nor entertaining

And they're not helpful at all. IMO it's a waste of time and internet space.

Liked his "review" of Duke Nukem Forever.

"You move Duke's arms with the anolog sticks, and his legs with the shoulder buttons, and to walk forward, you alternate into pressing R1 and L1. You'd be AMAZED at how immersive that gets after a while! The buttons are used for facial expressions. You use X to move your mouth, triangle to pick your nose, and square and circle to wiggle your ears."

"But then there's a hilarious fourth wall breaking sequence where Duke bursts into the lead designer's office and punches him in the stomach for being so [censored] stupid."

"My one criticism for Duke Nukem Forever is it comes on fourteen DVDs..."

And the tie-breaker for determining which was better, inFamous or Prototype, where each company should submit a picture of the rival's protagonist in women's lingerie. Both svcker Punch and Radical did so!

Him being an [censored] doesn't make his reviews funny nor entertaining

Hell yeah it does!

Sometimes his reviews are funny, sometimes they can be pretty dumb. (As in not funny at all)

Now that's an issue of taste.

However, a lot of people find his reviews hilarious so it's hardly a waste of either time or Internet space. Just because you dislike something doesn't mean it shouldn't exist. The world is not tailored to your (or anyone else's) preferences.

I can't wait for him to actually review Duke Nukem Forever, I just know he's gonna get his knickers in a serious twist about it. I can just imagine the beginning of it

"no, no, I reviewed Duke Nukem Forever already! why do I have to review it again!? what? what do you mean they actually released it?"

He seems to have a particular hatred for "realistic" shooters and JRPGs. I myself am not fond of JRPG's, but his reviews of recent realistic shooters seem to be too heavily reliant on insulting America and criticizing the single-player, with little emphasis on the main point of such games, the multiplayer aspect.

Edit: Okay I enjoy Pokemon and Golden Sun but other than those, I don't particularly like JRPGs.

Yes, we're allowed words that have two meanings. In this case, for our many discussions about 19th century illegitimacy law.

Well...yeah. Now, you can't say [censored], [censored], [censored], meecrob, or [censored]. But you can say bastard.

Uh-oh, looks like the censor is broken.

Yahtzee is great for entertainment. Watching his reviews every Thursday helps cheer me up before a hard day at Uni :D

That being said, of course, I dont watch the reviews for a serious opinion on games. Some of the points he makes are true (particularly in his DA2 review), but if anyone expects serious consumer advice from him they're very much in the wrong place.

He's also one of the owners of the "Mana Bar", a gaming themed bar in Australia that I plan to visit when I'm next in Brisbane.
