[WIP] ZILO

Post » Tue Sep 15, 2009 4:38 am

Well, I finished another Ayleid Ruin, opened up Blender and made a few items to make my life easier, and was screwing around with my 'bottle torches' again.

I made a few different colors, I think one for almost each school of magic. But I'm wondering if I should make the color of the flames match the bottles. Then, should I match the color of the light emitted?

Here's a quick http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc105/zinnikeys/BottleTorch.jpg to give you an idea.
These aren't something that are gonna be used very much, but I'm kind of undecided as to what I want to do with them as far as appearance... suggestions welcome.

Thanks for the kind words JGvardija.

As promised, got a couple more done. There's some pretty nice shots in Vindasel, if I do say so myself.

And for s&its and giggles a couple overview shots of one of Veyond's floors.

Gonna start up some more tonight. I kind of timed myself on these two this weekend, which was probably a bad idea. Haha! Turns out it takes me about 1.5 to 2.5 hours per floor of a dungeon. For the Ayleid Ruins anyway. And that's just setting up the lights and fixtures. Should go a quite a bit faster once I get them all out of the way! But takes even more time to go in and run the dungeon real quick, to glance over for any screw ups and take screens.

Speaking of screens, anyone know if it's possible to change the screen shot format to jpeg? If so, that would save me even more time converting them paint.

Well, the dungeon I'm in now has some necromancers in it. Yay! So, I thought I'd come up with some new lighting and fix up my bottle torches a little more.

I made this http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc105/zinnikeys/ZILO/SkelArmTripodNif.jpg in two varieties. Here it is http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc105/zinnikeys/ZILO/SkelArmTripodIG.jpg. I'm trying to come up with another fixture or two. But, if anyone has any ideas for lighting fixtures they'd like to see, or objects already made you'd like to see spread out through Cyrodiil's dungeons, I'd love to hear/see them. They don't have to be something you'd only see around necromancers necessarily.

And as a few posts before, I'm still undecided about these bottles. I changed the material to what a candle has so they would seem to give off a glow from within. Which was the whole idea to begin with. I'm still debating whether I want to go through and match the flame to the color of the bottle and/or the color of the light as well. Once again, opinions would be awesome!
Here we have the http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc105/zinnikeys/ZILO/BottleTorchesOuterFlame.jpg with the flame coming from the top. And http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc105/zinnikeys/ZILO/BottleTorchesInnerFlame.jpg we have them with the flame inside the bottle. Both versions give a glow from the bottle itself. Though the Conjurer Bottle's is the easiest to see, I'm not sure how to get the other bottle to glow a bit more. I really like the glow and it would be nice for the player to easily see that the bottle is giving off the light, if I went with the flame less version.

Ouch, man... that's about the nastiest story of personal hardship I've seen on these forums since Sheathana'ich... who was working on a lighting overhaul when he finally vanished for good... oh dear. Perhaps there's a curse.

Kudos for truckin' on, and I can't wait to see this finished. Texture and model fidelity has always been "meh, whatever" for me, but lighting can really enhance the game!

I vote for colored flame and colored light. Also for a sixth color. :)

Seriously, sorry to hear about your story. That's really courageous of you to not let us down.

About those bottles, they rock, but, i would prefer to see the exterior flame ones in dungeons ( on tables were bandits dine i.e) and the inside ones in cities and homes, or shrines. (shrines would fit rather well actually, since they're more "peaceful lookin")

Also, i keep following this, because it will be one heck of an overhaul. Lets keep it on !

hi Zinni,
try this freeware http://www.irfanview.com/. easy to use - just load a pic and save - select jpg format when saving. no spyware, etc. just watch out for the google toolbar when installing. been using this program for years and its great.

mod looks good :goodjob:

glad to hear things worked out.

i would suggest that you really dont need to make screenshots unless your looking for help or general critiquing. would lessen your workload a bit and make things easier for you. i peeked at a couple of them but im purposely avoiding them so that i can be shocked at the difference kind of like the first time i installed better cities. :)

Any preference for this sixth color?

Thanks for the link, but I'm looking for something I can change within Oblivion, so I don't have to convert them to begin with.

I understand that :) I do the same sometimes. I take the screens since I'm in there doing a quick run of the dungeon anyway, to make sure I didn't miss something. Also, just to let anyone watching this know I'm still here and working. But I have been thinking of cutting down the screens a bit, since I'm concentrating on getting the Ayleid Ruins done. I don't want people getting bored of the same old environments till I move on to a new type of dungeon.

Not much progress this weekend with the holiday and a really late night at work Friday. But the next few days are clear for the most part. :)
Oh, and thanks for the kind words.

registered version of http://www.fraps.com/download.php saves screenshots as jpg.

Sorry to hear about your RL issues, Zinni, I'm glad it all worked out though.

Your screens are looking good though, keep up the good work, and don't let any curse get it your way. :P

A note on the alyeid stones: The version I sent you has a bug that makes you multiply stones when you put them in a container, though I've fixed this in the All Natural Real Lights. I'll send you the fix when I get the time, it's just a small addition to a script.

Thanks again for the kind words.

Tejon, here's an http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc105/zinnikeys/ZILO/BottleTorchLabels.jpg with the bottles labeled. I actually ment to do this and edit that post right after I submitted it. I think I got sidetracked or something. Anyway, There's the five I have and what I was calling them. Although, the Resto bottle was the Illusionist, but after seeing your color choices, I like the white idea. I'll probably use that for Illusion and Alteration users.

Cool. I'm working on ZILO without your stones merged into it for now. I just do a quick merging when I'm testing a dungeon and want to see how the stones are looking. When it's all said and done, it'll be packaged with it though :). Yet, I did notice that if I go into a dungeon with your fix, save and reload without it, all the stones in the dungeon disappear. I'm not a scripter, but I'm guessing it's the placeatme function that causes that?

The disappearing stones is due to the replacement of the originals with a new stone that emits light, and this is defined within the plugin. Hence, when you deactivate the plugin, the new stones cannot be found, so nothing appears. I'm thinking that I should probably find some way of getting the original stones to reappear if the mod is removed, it's quite a big bummer ATM. :(

I wonder how much does this project differ from Real Lights as included in Weather All Natural?
