Zinemax, you need to think about inexperienced players.

I have several friends which aren't experienced in the world of Elderscrolls that are very interested in TESO, but now during this

2nd beta, they have almost lost interest and are more and more aggravated by the complete lack of UI.

I know the Elderscrolls games doesn't have much UI to start with. But at least you could give players the OPTIONS

to add minimap, better indicators for quests, and overall more information so that new players would feel more at ease

when playing the game.

One of my friends for example, can't even find quests without having to constantly pressing M for Map every other minute

to check if she's on the right way. A minimap with direction arrows would have helped a alot.

And the amount of buggs is also chasing her and other players away that are playing the Beta... And they don't CARE

of you say "its not the newest version" because a buggy beta is a BAD IMPRESSION, and some of the quests, she and others

still cannot complete - after 2 weeks...

You need to give players the OPTION to play with a good UI information or play "The elderscrolls way". NOT giving players the option

will chase a good portion away that otherwise would've loved your game.... just saying.

Don't worry, they'll be able to fill their screen with useless junk via add-ons.

Using the T key, you can toggle the map marker for the quest that you want. Then just follow the highlighted one.

Addons is NOT a solution for a bad gamedesign.

Morrowind had a "useless junk addon"

It was called a minimap.

But the "situation" is fine. If you're a player who is unable to figure out a compass and wants a screen full o' interface add-ons are the answer. The game is designed to have a minimal UI. Frankly, I hope you can turn off the "Press [T]" badge they added.

You really don't understand that this is an MMO, and not TES 5

Devs should fix it... NOT addons. Give players the OPTION for a more informative and clear UI.

hardcoe "elderscrolls players" can always chose not to use those options.

Good grief, how much more hand-holding do you want when you're doing quests? The compass is all you need. How can someone not understand it?

The fact you do not like the game design does not make it a bad game design. Just a design you do not like.

(I love the minimalistic UI, in case it wasn't obvious from the above)

Should we stand at the piers and announce to players new to mmos this fact?

The compass is all you need, new players may have a different take on things.

I'm sure you were new once too.

Players new to MMO's do not have expectations for the UI.

It's the MMO players spoiled by overblown UI's that are complaining the loudest. Players new to MMO's on the other hand will feel right at home if they played skyrim.

I agree. You know what? I'm using a mod that disables quest notifications, markers and the compass. Meaning I have to run around the world, and figure it all out myself.

Compared to my game play style, you seem spoiled. Why do you need the compass when I don't.

You're assuming what new players feel. You have no idea and are just projecting your negative feelings.

Im using common sense.

If a player who never played MMO's enters a game that does not have a typical MMO UI, he won't be missing it.

The OP brought up two examples of new players that disagree with you and you have no proof he's lying.

You have no idea what a new player will or not be able to get used to and it's appalling that you're pretending to know.

It's ignorant to think you know what they are going through.

Sounds like somebody is mad because a particular girl won't play video games with him anymore.

But in all seriousness, I totally agree with you and the whole bugs thing. Regardless of what we're here to do, a majority of the players who received a beta invite believe they are beta testing the game with a secondary emphasis on stress testing the servers. Invincible bosses, broken activators, animation glitches, UI crashes and all of these bad experiences leave a sour taste in these people's mouths.

Like CCNA mentioned though. They added the ability to cycle between quests by simply pressing the "T" button. It's very handy.

My best suggestion to you would be to give your http://rortybomb.files.wordpress.com/2012/09/ring_on_it.gif

Game will also be available on console and controllers, because of that the UI will not change. The interface will never look WoW-like.

He said nothing about them being new to MMO's. He said they are not experienced in the world of elder scrolls.

You on the other hand said "Should we stand at the piers and announce to players new to mmos this fact?". Thus my reaction: players new to MMO's do not mind if TESO does not have a typical MMO UI. Only ones possibly missing a typical MMO UI are players who already experienced it (i.e. those who are not new to MMO's)

This kind of attitude is... well... Look, I play piano. I've been playing piano since I was four years of age... You aren't a concert pianist? Why not? It's easy... Do you understand my point? A lot of people can't read maps just like a lot of people can't play the piano. It doesn't make anyone inferior; it just makes us different. And the fact is that those gaming elitists who want everything on their level without the easy options need to come to terms with the fact that the game will collapse if they are the only ones playing it.

In regards to this particular problem, the game has an added feature: the moment you open up the map of any other UI element, you get turned around to face the camera. So you close the map, skill chart, journal or whatever and charge forward on your trusty steed only to discover you are going in the wrong direction. I need a mini-map; you can turn it off.
