A zombie RP idea! With a difference!

Post » Sun May 01, 2011 11:44 pm

Hey all!

Ok, my idea, I'll get straight to it, is for a Zombie RP which I hope may be different than those before it.

Our setting is Fort Sphinxmoth, the legendary Legion fortress in the deserts, or perhaps prairies, of northwest Elsweyr.

One day at dawn, two men are found dead on opposite sides of the castle with a large array of tools stolen from an equipment shed. Viciously mutilated, one of the men who fell from the desert-facing wall appears as if he has been brutally ravaged by a wild dog, despite all evidence pointing to a fall from a great height. The other man seems to have been strangled, with lacerations around his neck and deep purple bruising.

The commander at Fort Sphinxmoth hastily sends a letter to Skingrad that night as no conclusions are drawn by dusk. Whatever may have attacked and caused these murders, may also be responsible for the equipment theft. It seems to the commander that the bodies should be examined for exact causes of death, then sent home the next afternoon.

Dawn comes again, and the mutilated bodies have disappeared. Nearly a thousand men garrisoned in the mighty fortress, and nobody has seen the corpses. The Sphinxmoth commander has nothing to send back to Cyrodiil, and as the week draws on, the murders become more and more frequent, as do the thefts.

On the ninth night, hundreds of the men in the castle are murdered in their beds. The commander and most of the ranking staff are slain and their veteran services to the Legion terminated. As the last high ranking Legionnaire in the fortress is awakened, he orders a withdrawal of all service-able men to the fort's inner sanctum, to hold off this necromantic zombie horde until they die, once and for all.

All hope is not lost, however. There are vast stores inside, but it is scattered across the castle. If the men in the centre could sortie and fight back the hordes to claim stores, arrows, pitch and other important resources, they may be able to outlast the zombies. The men are running short and the inner sanctum is large in an immense castle such as Fort Sphinxmoth. Even in its ancient golden years, Fort Sphinxmoth tended to dwarf its garrison, with room for men by the thousand. Some say that as many as 9,000 men could be kept in the castle's immense system of walls and doors.

Just over eighty men are left in Sphinxmoth. The captain has sent a message to Skingrad, demanding reinforcements from the only Cyrodiilic county close enough to help or care. Until then, all the men in the fort can do is set traps for the zombies over the immense grounds, or fight them in the corridors and rooms. they use every trick in the book, from hot pitch in murder holes, all the way to flaming arrows in close combat for lack of effective weapons against the zombies.

Who knows how long they may last?

~~~~
Everybody comment, vote, blah! :) You could be a reinforcement from Cyrodiil, or a nearby settlement. Or you could be a veteran trooper on the inside. Its up to you. I plan to trigger events by sending messengers from command post to command post, along with dispersing the eighty troops where the pressure is most. This won't be a long RP. A couple of threads, perhaps. The first will be acquainting yourselves. The second will be fighting zombies and look for ways to beat them back. If you survive to the third and beyond, there may be reinforcements or death. :P
I'm not voting, because I don't get involved in Zombie RPs, generally, and I'm already committed to like ten RPs, but as far as the concept goes... this could be really fun. :) It seems interesting, a bit of mystery, and structured enough that people would know what was expected of them.
I hope you get some takers. :)
I voted Yeah. I've been looking for a good ol' zombie RP for ages and the Dead Horde didnt interest me, this does. Why? because we're trapped in a huge castle with almost a thousand zombies. As far a survival RP's go i see this one being minglessly fun :)
Yes they do. *smacks Krimsin up-side the head* It's just going through a rough patch.
Seems like a decent idea for an RP. It's definitely different from what I have going on with the Dead Horde. I'd join if I wasn't involved in a bunch of RPs already.
And by the way, didn't you send me a character sheet for the Dead Horde once?
I have two others i am considering, and my own RP, so it is unlikely i will join this.
Good idea though, better than others for sure.
I'd join. Maybe a traveler who was visiting the fort at the time of the attack. Poor Elindrin would come under a metric Crapton of suspicion seeing as how he is a necromancer though. Ah well, it will make for an interesting situation.
I've got the perfect character. Would a character with rings on each finger that could manipulate small bursts of flame be too powerful? (They each have long charging periods)
I'd definitely play. PM me when it's out! (I don't check TES sections too often)
If I had the time, I'd join. I just rarely have time to write decent length posts, and it's even rarer for me to actually have access to a computer to do so. But once exams pass, my laptop gets repaired (yet again), and if the rp is still here, I'll join for sure.
A little bit. Keep in mind we are a rag-tag bunch of civilians (i'm assuming because all the military personnel sleep together in a barracks, what kills one would kill them all) with little to no supplies.
10 rings is a little much anyway.
As soon as word got out that there was a necro in town, all the other characters would make killing him their first priority.
Since when did you become so omnipotent and powerful an RPer that you could tell the future?
That's up to the other players. Not your decision.
Allow me to express this as a simple equation:
Zombies = Terror = Mob Mentality
Mob mentality + Zombies + Necromancer in town = You're dead.
Well, if Elindrin dosen't tell anyone then they can't kill him.
He can just say he studies theoretical Magicks.
